Emma Cornelia Whitefield Whitfield age 96 of Hurdle Mills died Saturday, October 30, 2010 at her home. She was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. Mrs. Whitfield worked along with her husband in farming and business interest. Her greatest joy was her family. She was a member of Clement Baptist Church where she was the oldest member at the time of her death; she was also a member of the Bushy Fork Homemakers Club for many years. Mrs. Whitfield enjoyed attending Christian's Women's Club and Salem Golden Oldies.
Preceding her in death was her parents, William Albert and Lillie Kate Mitchell Whitefield; her husband, John Elmer Whitfield; and her siblings, Virginia Oakley Blackard, Bernard Whitefield, John Whitefield, Beulah Oakley, Mildred Oakley, Nancy Fleig, and Thomas Whitefield. Survivors include her three children, Howard Whitfield and wife, Dorothy of Hurdle Mills, Diane Brann of Hillsborough, and Frances Cunnup and husband David of Hurdle Mills; seven grandchildren: Gay Poindexter and husband Jay; Cheryl Moreland and husband Cal; Amy Whitfield, Chris Brann and wife Jenise; Jenny Bowes and husband Brian, Chad Horner and wife Kristy; and Chance Cunnup and wife Jill; 13 Great Grandchildren: Emma Claire Poindexter, Savannah Ruth Brann, Callie Elizabeth Moreland, Chase Brann Poindexter, Lauren Christine Brann, Kate Elaine Horner, William Collin Horner, Gracen Leigh Bowes, Caroline Elizabeth Moreland, Ella Grace Horner, Macee Ruth Bowes, Braden Michael Cunnup, and Abigail Noel Cunnup; one brother, William Whitefield and his wife Anna of Roxboro; and one sister, Mary Langdon of Coats.
The funeral service will be 2:00 PM Monday, November 1, 2010 at Clement Baptist Church with the Rev. Lewis Wall and Dr. Ben Gault officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pall bearers will be Chris Brann, Jay Poindexter, Brian Bowes, Chad Horner, Chance Cunnup, Cal Moreland, and Chase Poindexter.
The family will receive friends 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM Sunday, October 31, 2010 at the Clement Baptist Church.

Billy Ray Wilson Sr.

Billy Ray Wilson, Sr. age 57 of 5305 Ralph Winstead Road died Friday evening at Person Memorial Hospital. He was born in Dallas Texas. Mr. Wilson was of the baptist faith.
Survivors include his parents, Tom and Dale Hatchell of Leasburg, his children, Billy Ray Wilson, Jr. (wife Crystal) and Rachael Wilson all of Roxboro; and John Merritt Wilson of Leasburg; his brother, Jimmy Charles Wilson of Leasburg, his two sisters, Jean Wilson Crisp and Rebecca Ann Dunkley both of Roxboro; Six grandchildren;and the mother of his children, Karen Long of Roxboro.
The funeral service will be 11:00 AM Monday, November 1, 2010 at the Lamberth Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Gerald Thomas officiating and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pall bearers will be Johnny Thaxton, Tracy Dunn, Walter McGhee, Robbie Long, Jason Braddy, and David Hall.
Honorary pall bearers will be Wayne Ridgeway and Jay Wilson.
The family will receive friends 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM Sunday, October 31, 2010 at the Brooks & White Funeral Home.

Bettie Clayton Hill

Mrs. Bettie Clayton Hill, age 100, of 4121 Red Mountain Rd. died Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Durham Regional Hospital. Born in Person County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Titumis Clayton and Lelia Copley Clayton and wife of the late Robert K. Hill. She was also preceded in death by 10 siblings. Mrs. Hill was a homemaker and worked on the family farm. She was of the Baptist Faith.
Surviving include two daughters, Mozelle Elliott of Oxford, Shirley Whitfield and husband Dan of Hurdle Mills; three sons, Lewis Hill and wife Virginia of Rougemont, Maurice Hill and wife Joan of Rougemont, and Milton Hill and wife Robin of Rougemont; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, October 30, 2010 at the Brooks & White Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Billy Lynch will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Hill Family Cemetery on Hilden Road in Rougemont. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Wayne Elliott, Robert Lee Elliott, Van Elliott, Dale Hill, Stacey Harris, and Ronald Hill. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bobby Jackson, Josh Davis, Bruce Monk, Everette Hill, George Murray, and Thomas Ellis.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Friday, October 29, 2010 at the Brooks & White Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Lorene Brann Sykes age 89 of Highway 57 died October 28, 2010 in the Gulf Coast Hospital in Ft. Myers, Florida. She was born in Caswell County to the late John Charlie Brann and his wife, Jennie Duncan Brann. Mrs. Sykes was preceded in death by her husband, Lee V. Sykes, her siblings, Allie Brann, Percy Brann, Jack Brann, Loney Tatum, Lottie Oakes, Onie Idol, Ola Briggs, Odell Denny, and Mabene Briggs. She was a member of the Hobby Club of St. James City, Florida.
Survivors include her son, Wayne Lunsford and his wife Julie of Franklin, NC; two grandchildren: Dana LaChapelle and husband Carl and Brian Lunsford and wife Gina; four great grandchildren, William LaChapelle, Clara LaChapelle, Carson Lunsford, and Hannah Lunsford; two sisters, Clara May of McLeansville, NC and Orene Brann of Semora. The funeral service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at the Brooks & White Chapel with Mr. Charles Briggs and Mr. Roger Oakes officiating. Burial will be in the Ebenezer Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Henry Fleetwood, W.A. Idol, Bernard May, Stephen Tatum, Rick Briggs, Percy Brann, Jr., John Fleetwood, Jimmy Briggs, Larry Briggs, Will Briggs and Lawrence May.

Yvonne Harris Winstead Suitt, age 74, of 1337 Maurice Daniels Road died Wednesday, October 27, 2010 in the Duke University Medical Center. She was born in Person County and was the daughter of the late Ray Key Winstead, Sr., and Nannie Liza Harris Winstead. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lee Suitt, three brothers, Ray Key Winstead, Jr., Lamar Burton Winstead, and Timothy Barnette Winstead. Prior to retirement, she was a teacher. She was a member of Concord United Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Women.
Surviving are her daughter, Cynthia Daniel, of the home; three foster children, Paul S. Wynn and Judy M. Wynn, of Mebane; Joy W. Stanley, of Durham; one brother, Arthur W. Winstead of Greensboro; three grandchildren, Jamie Lee Teague, Donald Corbett Teague, and Michael Blake Teague, great-grandchildren, Odell R. Lynch, Daniel H. Lynch, Noah B. Teague, and Logan F. Teague.
The family will receive friends from 12:45 PM to 1:45 PM Friday at the Concord United Methodist Church.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, October 29, 2010 at the Concord United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Tom Holtsclaw, Rev. Karl Neuschaefer and Rev. Gerald Thomas. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Winstead, Butch Setterington, Jody Suitt, David Clayton, Mike Solomon, Rodney Brann, Kevin Poole, Cleve Wagstaff.
Wiloree Clayton Rhew

Mrs. Wiloree Clayton Rhew, age 90, of 41 Hassel Clayton Rd., died Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Durham Regional Hospital. Born in Person County, she was the daughter of the late Walter G. Clayton and Alma Burch Clayton. She was wife of the late Eldred N. Rhew. Mrs. Rhew had been employed by both Collins & Aikman, as well as the state of NC. She was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her son Garris Rhew and wife Cheryl of Duluth, GA; one brother, Kenneth Clayton and wife Joan of Newport News, VA; one sister, Nell C. Holland of Christiansburg, VA; one granddaughter, Kenda C. Gilbert of Lawrenceville, GA; an additional sister-in-law Helen Rhew of Graham, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday October 27, 2010 at the Brooks & White Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:45 to 2:45 PM prior to the service. The Rev. Pam Watkins and the Rev. Billy Carden will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.
