Helen Martin Hargis

Helen Martin Hargis age 87 of 226 Edgar Street died Thursday morning at Person Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Hargis was a native of Halifax County, VA, daughter of the late Caswell Martin and Lula Crews. She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace United Methodist Church and she was a member of the United Methodist Women.
Surviving are her husband Albert "Leonard" Hargis of the home, one son, Ricky Hargis of the home.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM Saturday, November 6, 2010 at the Grace United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ross Thompson and Rev. Don Davis. Burial will follow in the Providence Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Arnold Oakley, Gary Baird, Kenneth Hicks, Joel Martin, Ronnie Maloney, and Harry Hodges.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM Saturday at the Grace United Methodist Church and other times at the home.

Nobie Lee Harris

Died: 11/02/2010 and resided in Rougemont, North Carolina
Mrs. Nobie Lee Riley Harris, age 79, of 8900 Bunny Rd., died Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at Durham Regional Hospital. Born in Person County she was the daughter of the late Hide Riley and Essie Mae Riley and was the wife of the late Henry Harris. She was also preceded in death by her son Emory T. Harris. Mrs. Harris was a homemaker and worked on the family farm. She was a member of New Bethel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three sons, David Harris and wife Linda of Rougemont, James Harris, of Creedmore, and Roger Harris of the home; two daughters, Patricia Otler and husband Ditma of Germany, and Stella Harris of the home; two sisters, Cora Evans of Roxboro, and Sally Canada of Roxboro; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, November 4, 2010 at New Bethel United Methodist Church, The Rev. Cheryl Lawrence will be officiating. Pallbearers will be W.R. Harris, Jimmy Wilson, Gary Russell, Randy Russell, Billy Canada, and Donald Canada.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at the Brooks & White and other times at the home.
Ida Elizabeth Evans

Died: 11/02/2010 and resided in Semora, NC
Ida Elizabeth Evans, age 85, of 16456 NC Hwy. 119 North, died Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at her home. Born in Halifax County Virginia, she was the daughter of the late George "Bunn" and Ida Viola Evans. Ms. Evans had been a member of the Semora Homemaker Club for 50 years. She was a member of Semora United Methodist Church and also attended Lebanon Christian Church.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, November 7, 2010 at the Lebanon Christian Church in Semora. The Rev. Hunter Thompson and the Rev. John Upton will be officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends will gather in the church at the conclusion of the service.

Gussie Mae Hughes Gray

Gussie Mae Hughes Gray, age 90, of 615 Ridge Rd., died Monday, November 1, 2010 at Person Memorial Hospital. Born in Laurens County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Gus C. Hughes and Nevia Garrett Hughes, and wife of the late William Clifford Gray. She was also preceded in death by her son John L. Gray, and her great-grandson Bailey Gray Tippett. Mrs. Gray was a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Henderson, NC.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy G. Barnes and husband George R. of Henderson; Linda G. Prelozny and husband Peter A. of Timberlake; one daughter-in law, Marie W. Gray of Henderson; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, November 4, 2010 at the Person Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Hebert Brown will be officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at the Brooks & White Funeral Home.

John Garner "Uncle John" Harris

John Garner "Uncle John" Harris, age 103 formerly of Helena Moriah Road died Saturday morning, October 30, 2010 at the Roxboro Nursing Center. He was born in Person County to the late John Henry and Delilah Smitty Harris. Uncle John was a retired tobacco farmer and had worked at Blalock's Store in Timberlake. He was much loved in the Timberlake Community. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mamie L. Harris.
Surviving are his children and their spouses, Merritt Harris (Peggy) of Timberlake; Clyde Harris (Patsy) of Shelby; Richard Harris (Carolyn) and Billy Harris (Sharon) of Roxboro; Everlene (David) Sally of Danville, VA; Jane Wolfe (Darnell) of Hurdle Mills; and Hazel Blalock of Rougemont; twelve grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, November 1, 2010 at the Brooks & White Chapel by the Rev. Jack Snyder. Interment will follow in the Person Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gary "Shorty" Chandler, Ronald Tilley, George Foushee, Ronald Foushee, John Robert Porterfield, Michael Clayton, and Gerald Clayton.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 9:45 AM to 10:45 AM Monday, November 1, 2010 at the Brooks & White Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter, Jane Wolfe, 362 Guess Rd., Hurdle Mills, NC 27541.

Norman Wilson Crouch

Norman Wilson Crouch, age 69 formerly of Yanceyville, died Saturday, October 30, 2010 at the Person Memorial Hospital. He was born in Pittsylvania Coumty, VA and was the son of the late Wilson Crouch and Bertha Matherly Crouch. He was a carpenter, and avid NASCAR fan. He was a former race car driver at the 311 & ACE Speedway. He was of the Baptist Faith.
He is survived by three children, Norman Duane Crouch and wife Lisa of Yanceyville; Susie C. Whitt and husband Glen of Milton; Willie B. Crouch of Blanch; two sisters, Nina C. Allen of Danville, VA; and Janice C. Smith, of Yanceyville; four grandchildren, Crystal Mise, Jason Page, Cori Page, Glen Whitt, III, and Ariel Whitt, and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at the Highland Burial Park in Danville, VA., by the Pastor Wayne Jones.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, November 1, 2010 at the Brooks & White Funeral Home.
