Jodie Frances Neathery Kendrick, 95, of 201 Old Leasburg Rd., died Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell. Born in Person County, Mrs. Kendrick was the daughter of the late Thomas and Martha Wheeley Neathery and wife of the late Bascom Ely Kendrick. Mrs. Kendrick was a member of Theresa Baptist Church and she attended Leasburg United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking and taking care of others. She also cooked at the Solomon Lea School cafeteria with Mrs. Lucille Holt.
Mrs. Kendrick is survived by three children and their spouses, Wallace and Ida Kendrick, Jerry and Cindy Kendrick and Gertie and Jerry Duncan, all of Leasburg; eight grandchildren, Stacey Kendrick, Tracey Kendrick, Amanda Crabtree, Kaylin Duncan, Sheri Duncan Mattos, Jerry Duncan II, Sean Kendrick and Chris Kendrick; twelve great-grandchildren, Trevor Kendrick, Tanner Kendrick, Christie Perkins, Codie Kendrick, Christopher Crabtree, Justin Crabtree, Austin Kendrick, Lana Kendrick, Lauren Kendrick, Jailyn Mattos, Morgan Mattos and Mallory Mattos; two great-great-grandchildren, Skyler Perkins and Conner Perkins. Mrs. Kendrick was preceded in death by her grandson, Daron L. Kendrick and her great-grandson, Ayden Kendrick.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday at the Brooks & White Chapel by the Rev. Herbert Brown. Burial will follow in the Wheeler’s Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1-2 PM Friday at the Brooks & White Chapel prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Davis and her great-grandchildren.

Walter Thomas Suitt Jr.

Walter Thomas Suitt, Jr. age 84 of 244 Woodrow Ashley Rd. died Tuesday morning at his home. Born in Person County, Mr. Suitt was son of the late Bessie Parrot Suitt and Walter Thomas Suitt, Sr. and husband of the late Evelyn Martin Suitt. Mr. Suitt was preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence Suitt and his sister Pauline Oakley. He was a World War II Veteran having received the Purple Heart medal. He was a member of North Roxboro Baptist Church. Mr. Suitt was a charter member of the Moose Lodge as well as the oldest member; he was also a member of the Moose Legion.
Surviving are two children and their spouses, Linda & Stanford Harris of Timberlake; Tommy and Linda Suitt of Roxboro; a step daughter, Sue Martin of South Boston, VA; two grandchildren, Michael Harris of Roxboro; Jarrod T. Suitt of Greensboro; two great grandchildren, Christina and Virginia Harris; one brother, Ira Suitt of Chipona, Spain, three sisters, Lorene Barker of Richmond, VA, Clarice Oakley of Roxboro, and Diane Blackwood of Chapel Hill.
The family will receive friends 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at the Brooks & White Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be 11:00 AM Thursday, February 26, 2009 at North Roxboro Baptist Church with the Rev. Ben Durand and the Rev. Herbert Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Providence Cemetery.
Pall Bearers will be Gary Oakley, Danny Ray Wrenn, Bernie Oakley, Terry Suitt, Clyde Harrelson and Earl Harrelson.

Johnny Keith Hicks

Johnny Keith Hicks, 50, formerly of Roxboro, died Sunday, February 22, 2009 at Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville, FL. Born in Person County, Mr. Hicks is the son of Ted and Betty Ann Hicks, of Roxboro. Mr. Hicks worked as a project manager for Augusta Fiberglass and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church having sung in the choir and was the past president of the Methodist Men.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hicks is survived by his wife, Kathleen Clark Hicks; three children, Justin, Amber and Joeleen; two brothers, Kenneth Hicks and Joe Hicks, both of Roxboro; one sister, Mary Liz Burton, of Timberlake.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at Grace United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ross Thompson and the Rev. Travis Owen. Burial will follow in Burchwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:30-8:30 PM Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church and at other times at the home of his parents, Ted and Betty Ann Hicks, 1245 Pointer St., Roxboro.
Pallbearers will be Carl Owen, Glenn Owen, Jimmy Allen, Kelly Allen, Terry Allen, Nolan Kidd, Stephen Hicks, Mike Menanite and Keith Reid. Honorary pallbearers will be Kyle Bullock, Derek Day, Ronnie Maloney, Donnie Davis, and Carey Gillam.

James Edward "Dick" Blalock

James Edward “Dick” Blalock, 52, died Saturday, February 21, 2009 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born in Person County, Mr. Blalock was the son of the late John Robert Blalock and Mabel T. Blalock, who survives, of Rougemont. Mr. Blalock was a carpenter and mechanic and a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Blalock is survived by his wife Mary Sue Wilson Blalock; two daughters, Monica Day and husband Carlton and Melissa Blalock and fiancé Joey Shelton, all of Rougemont; one step-son, Charlie Wilson, of Timberlake; two brothers, Robert E. Blalock and David Vernon Blalock, both of Rougemont; two sisters, Linda B. Harris and Brenda B. Roberson, both of Rougemont; three grandchildren, Kristen Day, Ariel Wilson and Tiffany Wilson.
Funeral services will be held 3 PM Friday at Bethany Baptist Church by the Rev. Matt Rummage and the Rev. Billy Lynch. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 7-8:30 PM Thursday at the Brooks & White Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Monica Day, 6883 Mt. Harmony Church Rd., Rougemont.
Pallbearers will be Carlton Day, Joey Shelton, Donald Wilson, Timmy Brooks, John Oakley and Rick Oakley.

Doris Smith Newell

Doris Smith Newell age 83 formerly of Younger Road, died Sunday afternoon, October 17, 2010 at the extended care unit of Person Memorial Hospital. She was born in Person County and was the daughter of the late Richard Franklin Smith and Fannie Lee Broach Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband Hayden W. Newell, Jr. Prior to retirement, she was manager of Newell's Jewelry Store and was active in various bridge clubs in Roxboro. She was a member of Long Memorial United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her children, Nancy Lee Newell of Roxboro; Hayden W. Newell, III of Boones Mill, VA; Rose Anne Caldwell and Richard Kevin Newell and wife Mary Reid Newell, of Raleigh; one sister Odell Slaton of Melbourne, FL; five grandchildren, Matthew Clayton, Shannon Newell McLeod, Marianna Clayton Long, William James Caldwell, and Edward Alexander Caldwell; six great-grandchildren, Sean Long, Terri Long, Koa McLeod, Niamh McLeod, Aven McLeod, and Eliza Mae Clayton.
Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM Monday, October 18, 2010 at Long Memorial United Methodist Church fellowship hall.
The funeral service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Long Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bruce Allen officiating.Burial will follow in the Burchwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matthew Clayton, Will Caldwell, Eddie Caldwell, Sean Long, Robbie Long, and George McLeod.

Timberlake - Debro Jean Lunsford Tilley age 62 of Charlie Cash Road died Sunday, October 17, 2010 at her home. She was born in Person County. She is daughter of the late Henderson Lunsford. Mrs. Tilley was a member of Timberlake Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by one sister Linda L. Yarboro and one brother Lemmie Lunsford.
Survivors include her husband, William Patrick Tilley of the home, her mother, Doreen Day Lunsford of Timberlake; two daughters, Gina Tilley and Lisa T. Hill; one son, Brian Tilley all of Timberlake; two brothers, Ricky Lunsford of Timberlake and L.B. Lunsford of Hurdle Mills; four sisters, Coreen L. Blalock and Doris L. Compton both of Roxboro, Betty Lunsford of Timberlake, and Naomi L. Denny of Roxboro; two grandchildren, Tyler Hill and Ethan Hill.
The visitation will be 6:30 to 8:00 Monday, October 18, 2010 at Brooks & White Chapel and at other times at the home.
The funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Brooks & White Chapel with the Rev. Hal Dickerson officiating. Burial will be in the Tilley Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her Nephews.
