Alice B. Blalock
Born: 01/31/1924 Person County, NC
Died: 02/28/2009 and resided in Timberlake, NC

Alice B. Blalock, age 85, of 3045 Antioch Church Road, died Saturday, February 28, 2009 at the Person Memorial Hospital. She was born in Person County and was the daughter of the late Lonnie and Jennie Painter Blalock. She was preceded in death by her four brothers, Coy, Bunnie, Lennie, and Earl. She was widow of the late Victor G. Blalock. She was retired from C&A; after 43 years of employment. She was a member of Flat River Primitive Baptist Church.

Surviving are one daughter Mitzi B. Duncan and husband Neil, one son, Gary Blalock and wife Kay, all of Timberlake; one brother, Elmer Blalock, of Timberlake; three sisters, Frankie Lunsford, Pallie B. Cothran, of Timberlake; Wiliah Ree Satterfield, of Hillsborough; one granddaughter, Stephanie Blalock of Iowa City, IA.

Funeral services will be held 11AM Monday, March 2, 2009 at the Brooks & White Chapel by Elder Bobby Daughtry. Burial will follow in the Surl Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Donnie Blalock, Mertis Blalock, Michael Blalock, Rickey Cothran, Nelson Blalock, Parmie Blalock, and Sam Hutchins.

Visitation will be held from 6-7:30 PM Sunday, March 1, 2009 at the Brooks & White Funeral Home and other times at the home of her sister, 747 Surl Mt. Tirzah Road, Timberlake.

Robert Brian Best
Born: 11/28/1954 Bradford, PA
Died: 02/28/2009 and resided in Roxboro, NC

Robert Brian Best age 54 of 181 Stonegate Drive died peacefully Saturday February 28, 2009 at his home. "Bob" as he was known to most was born in Bradford, PA. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved spending the summers at the lake with his family. Mr. Best was a retired mechanical engineer. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Kermit Mays, his paternal grandparents, Bernice and Howard Best.

Surviving are his wife, Billie Jean Lilley Best of the Home, his father, Howard Best and his mother Laura Jean Best both of Punta Gorda FL; his maternal grandmother, Sally Mays of Bradford, PA; two children, Emily Best and Nicholas Best both of Roxboro, his brother, Todd Best of Hampstead, NC and his sister, Karen Best of Rochester, NY. He was very close to Doris and Bill Quinn, his mother in-law and father in-law.

The family will be holding a memorial service on Friday March 6th at 4:00 pm at the Brooks & White Funeral Home.

Johnny Ray Henderson
Born: 02/24/2005 Durham County, NC
Died: 02/28/2009 and resided in Roxboro, NC

Johnny Ray Henderson, age 4, of 398 Green Meadow Lane, died Saturday, February 28, 2009, at Duke University Medical Center. He was the son of Chris and Penny Martin Henderson. He was a member of Faith Independent Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his brother, Christian Henderson, of the home; Paternal grandparents, J.R. and Marilyn Henderson, and Patsy McClintock, maternal grandparents, Johnny and Brenda Martin, great-grandparents, Mildred and Ray Callahan, great-grandparents, Clifford and Pauline Yow.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Faith Independent Baptist Church by the Rev. Ron Pruitt. Burial will follow in the Burchwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kiser Martin, David Pierce, Shane Weaver, Michael Palmer, and Stephen Smith.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 PM Monday, March 2, 2009 at Brooks & White Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to the Duke Children’s Hospital, c/o Kristen Johnson, 512 S. Mangum St. Durham, NC 27701.

Robert William Gentry Sr.
Born: 02/23/1924 Person County, NC
Died: 02/28/2009 and resided in Roxboro, NC

Robert William Gentry, Sr age 85 of 20 Denny’s Store Rd. died Saturday evening at his home. Mr. Gentry was son of the late Robert Absolem Gentry and Thelma Rogers Gentry. He was a member of Allensville United Methodist Church since 1933 where he was the money counter for 50 years. Mr. Gentry was a member of Woodmen of the World.

Surviving are his wife, Lillie Morris Gentry of the home, four children, Mollie G. Walker, Melinda G. Wilkins, Amelia G. Hicks, and Robert W. Gentry, Jr.; one brother, James Alfred Gentry, all of Roxboro, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

The graveside service will be 2 PM, Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Allensville United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Stuart Crank officiating.

The family will receive friends 6:30 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Brooks & White Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Allensville United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 1704 Dirgie Mine Road, Roxboro NC 27574 or Home Health and Hospice of Person County, 355 A South Madison Blvd., Roxboro, NC 27573.

Samuel Herbert Hines Jr.
Born: 02/12/1931 Harrison, WV
Died: 02/28/2009 and resided in Timberlake, NC

Samuel Herbert Hines, Jr. age 78 of 157 Antioch Acres Drive died Saturday morning. He was born in Harrison County, West Virginia to the late Dora Pletcher and husband Samuel Herbert Hines, Sr. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maryann Robinson Hines; and his three sisters, Helen Brookover, Mary Hines, and Dorothy Tucker. Mr. Hines was a member of Ca-Vel Baptist Church where he was a member of the choir; he was also a member of the Roxboro Community Chorus; He was first retired from the US Navy having served his country for 20 years and later from the Veterans Administration Hospital having worked there for another 20 years and in the last 7 years he was working with Wal-Mart. Mr. Hines was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.

Surviving is his wife Rachel Hayes Hines of the home, six children, Patricia Lynn Hines and Peggy Lee Hines both of Norfolk, VA, Theresa Louise Miller and husband Mark of Clinton, OH, Samuel Herbert Hines, III and wife, Carol of Newton, KS, Wendy Kay Hines of Fairmont, WV, and Molly Ann Blair and husband David of Chesapeake, VA; and one step-son Bruce H. Hall and wife, Diane of Timberlake; three sisters, June Snodgrass of Asheboro, NC, Luster Smith of PA, and Patricia Mays and husband David of St. Mary’s WV.; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A memorial service will be held 7:00 PM Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at the Ca-Val Baptist Church with the Rev. Jon Glass and the Rev. Toby Stone officiating. Mr. Hines will have a burial at sea by the US Navy from an Aircraft Carrier.

Memorials may be made to the Ca-Vel Baptist Church, 1885 N. Main Street, Roxboro NC 27573 or to the VA Hospital, 508 Fulton Street, Durham NC 27705.

Rosa Clayton Poole
Born: 01/12/1927 Person County, NC
Died: 02/26/2009 and resided in Roxboro, NC

Rosa Clayton Poole, 82, of 3735 Cates Mill Rd., died Thursday, February 26, 2009, at Person Memorial Hospital. Born in Person County, Mrs. Poole was the daughter of the late Lewis Bernard and Elizabeth James Clayton. Mrs. Poole retired from Collins & Aikman with over 40 years service. She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher.

Mrs. Poole is survived by her husband, Leamon Lennie Poole; one son, Ronald Wayne Poole, of Sumter, SC.

Funeral services will be held 11AM Saturday at the Brooks & White Chapel by the Rev. Edgar DeJesus. Burial will follow in Person Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6-7:30 PM Friday at the Brooks & White Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Michael Laws, Marty Whitfield, Rodney Garrett, Nat Williams, Wallace Bradsher and Mark Williams.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, c/o Betty Jean Horton, 497 Long's Store Rd., Roxboro, NC, 27574.
