Effie Margaret Causey Rich, 83, of 4520 Rich Country Drive, Asheboro, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Claudie Harrison and the Rev. Lee Roy Hunt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Millard L. Rich and retired from Sew Special.

Surviving are son, Archie L. Rich of Asheboro; sisters, Bobbie Hill of Lexington, Mabel Hill of Leland; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of the son, 310 Garrentown Road, Asheboro.

Janet D. Rouse
Sarah Janet Dorman Rouse, 67, of 319 Saunders Drive, Asheboro, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at her home.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro.

Opal G. Russell
Opal Graves Russell, 87, of Sunrise Care & Rehabilitation of Asheboro, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at the center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Michael Jordan officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Cecil Bryce Russell Sr., a member of First United Methodist Church and a retired beautician.

Surviving are sons, William H. Russell of Asheboro, Cecil Bryce Russell Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va.; daughter, Nancy Dancy of Harrogate, England; sisters, Grace Rollins of Smithfield, Nancy O'Briant of Liberty; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

SOPHIA - Myrtle Hughes Pugh, 62, of 6936 U.S. 311, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Living Waters Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Wayne Pugh officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County and a homemaker.

James W. Robbins
RANDLEMAN - James Willard Robbins, 79, of 305 W. Academy St., died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at the V.A. Hospital in Durham.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, with the Rev. David Hamlyn officiating.

He was a native of Randleman and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Evelyn Robbins of Randleman; daughter, Jennifer R. Causey of Fayetteville; son, James Robbins of Randleman; sisters, Harriett Yates of Atlanta, Ga., Josephine Callicutt of Cedar Falls, Laura Huffman of Trinity; brother, Robert Robbins of Asheboro; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

RAMSEUR - Ruby Cross Mansfield, 80, of Randolph Hills Apt. 5-A, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be in Murfreesboro, Ark. Burial will be in Saline Church of Christ in Murfreesboro, Ark.

She was a native of Guilford County, a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ in Asheboro.

Surviving are brother, Colon Cross of Asheboro; sisters, Lucy Wilson of Laurinburg, Evelyn Gains of McLeansville.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

She was a native of Davidson County and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Cled Frank of the home; sons, Cletus C. Frank of Greensboro, Ross A. Frank of Lexington; sisters, Ethel Workman of Baltimore, Md., Myrtle Black of High Point, Cleo Staton of Trinity; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

TROY - Esther Varnadore Kerr, 69, of 615 Carson St., died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

Funeral service was 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Chuck Cook officiating. Burial was in Southside Cemetery.

She was a native of Lancaster County, S.C., a graduate of Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing, retired from Montgomery Memorial Hospital where she was Director of Nursing and was a member of Circle #2 at her church.

Surviving are husband, Bill Kerr of the home; daughters, Evie Cooke of Greensboro, Betsy Mitchel of Southern Pines, Kathy Stevens of Oxford, Nancy Kerr of Pinehurst; brother, Gary Varnadore of Lancaster, S.C.; four grandchildren.

Joyce W. Briden
WAKE FOREST - Joyce Walker Briden, 57, of 1401 Waterwinds Court, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at Rex Hospital, Raleigh.

A requiem mass was 2:30 p.m. Thursday at St. George's Anglican Church, Raleigh, with Father John Lancaster officiating. An additional memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Holly Spring Friends Meeting in Ramseur.

She was a 1959 graduate of Coleridge High School, a 1962 graduate of High Point Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and a retired registered nurse.

Surviving are husband, Frank Earle Briden; daughters, Marcia Kim B. Marshburn of Raleigh, Allison Kay Briden of Dallas, Texas; mother, Ardieth Cox Walker of Asheboro; sister, Barbara Ann Luther of Asheboro; brothers, Odell Walker of Ramseur, Clinton Walker of Asheboro.

The family will be at the church in Ramseur immediately following the service.

BEAR CREEK - B. Russell Phillips Sr., 73, of 8014 Siler City-Glendon Road, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Tyson Creek Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Dr. Walter YoHo and the Rev. Bob Wachs officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a retired building inspector for the Town of Siler City, a building contractor and a certified Level 4 building inspector.

Surviving are wife, Olga Connover Phillips of Bear Creek; sons, B. Russell "Rusty" Phillips Jr., David Abraham Phillips, both of Bear Creek; daughters, Kathy P. Gaines, Jennie P. Scott, Jane Phillips, all of Bear Creek, Mary Lois Thomas of Sanford, Sue B. Farlow of Raleigh; mother, Nannie Grubb Phillips of Bear Creek; brothers, Billy Joe Phillips, Garry Phillips, both of Bear Creek; sisters, Merle P. Stumpf, Berta Lou Scott, both of Bear Creek; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandson.

John Clark Chrisco, 70, of 1085 Crestview Church Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at his home.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Oaklawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Bill Payne and Paul Micka officiating.

He was a native of Richmond County, a member of Greystone Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and was retired from the Asheboro Police Department.

Surviving are wife, Mildred Freeman Chrisco; daughter, Sheila C. Wright of Asheboro; sister, Myrtle Beck of Asheboro; half brother, Clarence Chriscoe of Eagle Springs; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

She was a native of Guilford County, the widow of Vernon A. Chaney Sr., attended First Assembly of God and was a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Betsy Prevost, Barbara Busick, Judy Smith, all of Asheboro; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ricky Busick, 1415 Cable Creek Road, Asheboro.

Frances Martha Kinney Hathcock, 91, of 230 E. Presnell St., Asheboro, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Edmond Hathcock and a retired hosiery mill employee.

Surviving are sisters, Alma Kinney, Ava Kinney, Olga Cagle, all of Asheboro; brother, Warren Kinney of Asheboro.

He was a native of Alexander County and retired from Highland Cotton Mills, High Point.

Surviving are wife, Dorothy H. Pennell of Randleman; daughter, Brenda P. Smith of Asheboro; sons, Dwight Pennell, Bobby Pennell, both of Randleman; sisters, Datie Williamson of Henderson, Ila Mae Wilson of Oxford, Virgie Beeson of Durham; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

GREENSBORO - Joe C. Coble, 86, of 5641 Old Randleman Road, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, with the Rev. Kenneth Durham officiating. Burial will be in Melanchthon Lutheran Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Guilford County, a retired tobacco farmer and a carpenter.

Surviving are daughters, Linda C. Durham of Greensboro, Brenda C. Winfree of McLeansville; sons, Clark Coble, Roger Coble, both of Whitsett; sister, Bert C. Langley; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Calvin F. Hulin
DENTON - Calvin Franklin "Jack" Hulin, 71, of Old N.C. 49, Asheboro, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at Beverly Nursing Center, Thomasville.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, with the Rev. R. Marsden Kitley, O.S.L. officiating. Burial will be in Gravel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County and a retired sawmill operator.

Surviving are sons, Frank Hulin of Denton, Eric Hulin, Willie Hulin, both of Asheboro; daughter, Cathy Staley of Seagrove; brothers, Bud Hulin of Denton, John Hulin of Winston-Salem; sisters, Annie Saunders, Eva Lambeth, both of Denton, Marie Latham of Lexington; three grandchildren.

Julia Trexler
TROY - Julia Trexler, infant daughter of Donald W. Trexler and Laurie Gutschmit Trexler of 190 Alandale Drive, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at Carolina Medical Center, Charlotte.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Chuck Cook officiating.

Surviving are brother, William Alan Trexler of the home; sisters, Elizabeth Trexler, Sarah Hess Trexler, both of the home; grandparents, Alan and Brenda Gutschmit of Troy; great-grandparents, Lillian Gutschmit of Spring Lake, N.J., A. L. Gobble of Albemarle.
