SILER CITY - Helen Marie Jordan, of 1114 Lane Jordan Road, died Friday, Feb. 13, 1999, at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Jordan Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Gene Horton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, a retired employee of The Kellwood Company and a musician for Price Community and Lambert Chapel Baptist churches for several years.

Surviving are daughters, Qumillar Harris of the home, Phyllis Hill of Siler City, Debra Sullivan of Greensboro; sons, Dwaine Jordan of Liberty, David Jordan of Sanford, Christopher Jordan of the home; sisters, Christine Brooks, Lois Matthews, Bettye Brooks, Faydean Lucus, Edna Johnson, Mary Siler, Louise Jordan, Marie McNeill, all of Siler City, Ernestine Wilhite of Pleasant Garden; brothers, Robert Jordan, Clarence Jordan, both of Siler City; eight grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 7:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Willie A. Murray
BENNETT - Willie Alvin Murray, 67, of 444 Fall Creek Road, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at Duke University Medical Center, Durham.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Siler City Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Dexter Schronce and the Rev. David Murphy officiating. Burial will be in Prosperity Friends Cemetery.

He was retired from Glendale Hosiery and a veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are wife, Jean Lowe Murray of Bennett; daughter, Teresa M. Reynolds of Bennett; son, Billy W. Murray of Andover, Mass.; five grandchildren.

CARTHAGE - Ronie M. Woodel, 86, of Pinelake Health Center, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Bennett Baptist Church Cemetery, Bennett, with the Rev. James E. Cockram officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County and retired from Bassett Furniture Industries in Ramseur.

Surviving are daughter, Kathleen Needham of Seagrove; son, Jerry R. Woodel of Robbins; seven grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home of the daughter, 148 Needham Family Road, Seagrove.

Rev. Joseph W. Inman

BISCOE - Rev. Joseph Worth Inman, 68, of 1781 Cotton Creek Road, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at New Hope Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Gene Davis and the Rev. Bob Yandle officiating. Burial will be in the Maness Family Cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, a U.S. Air Force veteran, a barber, a hosiery mill employee and a minister.

Surviving are sisters, Mary Louise Shields of Robbins, Phyllis Dunlap of Carthage; brothers, William Mark Inman of Robbins, Donald Alfred Inman of Burlington.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Clara S. Bray
Clara Stevenson Bray, 87, of 504 Foxworth Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cedar Falls United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Ervin Hauser and the Rev. Jacqueline Elliott officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, a member of the United Methodist Women and retired after more than 50 years with Jordan Spinning.

Surviving are son, Rev. John Bray of Asheboro; daughters, Betty Wallace, Peggy Jones, both of Asheboro; brothers, J.C. Stevenson, Ray Stevenson, both of Asheboro; sister, Polly Beane of Asheboro; two grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; one great-granddaughter.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

John C. Chrisco
John Clark Chrisco, 70, of 1085 Crestview Church Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at his home.

Graveside service was 2 p.m. Monday at Oaklawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Bill Payne and Paul Micka officiating.

Surviving are wife, Mildred Freeman Chrisco; daughter, Sheila C. Wright of Asheboro; son, Derek Chrisco of Hillsborough; sister, Myrtle Beck of Asheboro; half brother, Clarence Chriscoe of Eagle Springs; two grandchildren.

James E. Monroe
James Ervin Monroe, 68, of 1611 Grantville Lane, Asheboro, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1999, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Melita Grove Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Dallas D. Baldwin officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvery Cemetery.

He was a native of Scotland County, superintendent of the church Sunday School, chairman of the deacon board and a member of the Male and Senior Choirs.

HIGH POINT - Mary McCarn Armentrout, 93, of the Evergreens of High Point, formerly of 519 Gatewood Ave., died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at the Evergreens.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ward Street United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Abraham Kim and the Rev. Bobby Beck officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of James Jennings Armentrout and a member of Elizabeth Albright Sunday School class at her church.

Surviving are daughters, Mary Katherine Beck, Josie Faye Cleveland, both of High Point; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter.

The family will be at Sechrest Funeral Home, High Point, 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Mary Beck, 517 Gatewood Ave., High Point.

John E. Ledbetter Jr.
TROY - John Edward Ledbetter Jr., 83, of 1331 Lovejoy Road, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at Montgomery Memorial Healthcare.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Wesleyan Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Don Ledbetter and the Rev. Jeff Loman officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County and a retired textile worker.

Surviving are wife, Ruth Strider Ledbetter of the home; son, John Edward Ledbetter III of Troy; daughters, Stella Miller of Denton, Judy Haithcock of Troy; brother, Rev. Don Ledbetter of Gibsonville; sisters, Lizzie Lemons of Liberty, Mary Frances Ledbetter, Katherine Suggs, both of Troy; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

MT. GILEAD - Johnie Marvin Haywood, 84, of 2212 N.C. 73 West, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at his home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Chris Cadenhead and Dr. Bob Pratt officiating. Burial will be in the Haywood Family Cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a retired building contractor and a member and former teacher of the Faithful Adult Sunday School class at his church.

Surviving are wife, Ina Haywood of the home; sons, Rev. Jerry Haywood of Williamsburg, Va., Kent Haywood of Mt. Gilead; daughters, Cinny Skidmore of Albemarle, Donna Green-Burleson of Mt. Herbert Delno "Pete" Holland, 83, of 983 Straight St., Asheboro, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Dr. John S. Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Johnston County, a charter member and Past Master of Asheboro Masonic Lodge #699, where he was given a life membership and was a Past District Deputy Grand Master and Past District Grand Lecturer of the 37th Masonic District in North Carolina. He was a Scottish Rite and York Rite Mason, a member of Oasis Shrine Temple and Randolph County Shrine, a honorary member of Sudan Temple and a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran.

Surviving are wife, Effie Hamlet Holland; stepdaughter, Joyce Hamlet of Greensboro; stepson, Lloyd Hamlet of Asheboro; brothers, Fenton D. Holland Jr. of Clayton, Jesse Lanier Holland of Marietta, Ga.; sister, Ida Laurie Weeks of Smithfield.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Ira L. McDowell
Ira Lewis McDowell, 93, formerly of 177 Farmer Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Gary Phaup and the Rev. Boyd Byerly officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Ruth Holleman McDowell and a member of Pleasant Union United Church of Christ, where he had been a Sunday School teacher for the men's and youth classes and the Sunday School superintendent. He was educated in the Randolph County schools and at Edwards Business College in High Point, worked for Reynolds Tobacco Co. and was a partner in General Wholesale Co. He and his wife owned and operated Realty Assistance Inc., was a member of the board of directors of the Salvation Army, Director Emeritus of Randolph Bank and Trust and was chairman of the Randolph County Board of Commissioners from 1956-1970.

Surviving are son, Richard McDowell of Linglestown, Pa.; sisters, Vida McDowell of Thomasville, Imogene M. Ridge of Denton, Lois M. Staley of Prince George, Va.; brothers, the Rev. George McDowell, Alvin McDowell, Casper McDowell, all of Asheboro; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Hazel Hall Luther, 90, of Carillon Assisted Living, Asheboro, formerly of Ramseur, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cool Springs Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. John Harmon and the Rev. Adrian Pugh officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and a homemaker.

Surviving are son, Melvin Luther of Asheboro; daughters, Helen Hall of Ramseur, Inez Simmons of Edge Water, Fla.; sisters, Elenora Julian of Portsman, Va., Mrs. Colon Daniels of Rockwood, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.

Opal L. Parks
Opal Juanita Loflin Parks, 88, of Crossroads Retirement Center, Asheboro, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Mark Beane officiating. Burial will be in High Pine Wesleyan Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Denton, the widow of Foy Parks and a homemaker.

Surviving are sons, Leonard Parks, Howard Parks, both of Asheboro; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Robert C. Stevens Jr.
Robert C. Stevens Jr., 58, of 2052 Pisgah Covered Bridge Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Flag Springs United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Raiford Brown and the Rev. Luther Crady Jr. officiating.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, retired from Dixie Furniture and was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving are wife, Ann R. Stevens of Asheboro; son, Craig Stevens of Asheboro; stepsons, Martin Chrisco, Bobby Chrisco, both of Asheboro; mother, Fannie Bowman of Seagrove; sisters, Josephine Willard, Virginia Comer, both of Seagrove; brother, Hersey Stevens of Seagrove; two grandchildren.

Rudolph O. Hanner
NORFOLK, Va. - Rudolph O. "Rudy" Hanner, 60, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999.

A memorial service was 5 p.m. Sunday at Christ The King Church, Norfolk, Va., where he was a member, with the Rev. Brian Rafferty officiating.

He was a native of Level Cross, a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam where he received a Bronze Star and three Army Commendation Medals. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a copy editor and news editor of The Ledger Star newspaper, which later merged with The Virginian-Pilot, where he became operations editor of the news copy desk and was a designer for The Virginian-Pilot. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Surviving are wife, Jane Hanner; daughters, Jacqueline B. Hanner of New York, N.Y., Jennifer A. Hanner, M.D. of Boston, Mass.; brother, Roscoe L. Hanner of Charlotte; sisters, Linda K. Hylton of Liberty, Winona "Lucille" Hill of Asheboro, Cordelia F. Faber of Greensboro, Carolyn V. Smith of Cary.

H.D. Oliver Funeral Home, Norfolk, Va., was in charge of the arrangements.

Lucy Mae Voncannon King, 86, of 6012 New Hope Church Road, Asheboro, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at her home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder Roy Spiers officiating. Burial will be in Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Rowan County, the widow of Lola King and attended Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church.

She was a native of Randolph County and the widow of George Russell.
