A graveside service was 3 p.m. Thursday at Pine Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery, Denton, with the Rev. Jack Miller officiating.

She was a native of Montgomery County.

ABERDEEN - Rona Brady Craven, 81, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at Pinehurst Nursing Center.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Randolph Memorial Park, with the Rev. Bobby M. Marsh officiating.

She was a member of Page Memorial United Methodist Church and a homemaker.

Surviving are sons, James A. Craven of Aberdeen, Henry B. Craven of Robbins; brother, O.C. Brady Jr. of Ramseur; sisters, Betsy B. Cheek of Coleridge, Velna B. Hussey of Highfalls; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Powell Funeral Home & Crematory of Southern Pines, 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Ida N. Hilliard
WEST END - Ida Nall Hilliard, 63, of Greybriar Retirement Center, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Horseshoe Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. James McKenzie officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Phyllis Moore of Murdocksville, Patty Garner of Carthage; sister, Gertrude Mitchell of Graham; brothers, Frank Nall, John Nall, both of Goldston; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-8:30 p.m. Friday.

Samuel Cheek
GOLDSTON - Samuel Cheek, 89, of 285 Hillcrest Ave., died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Goldston United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Vernon Tyson and the Rev. Susan Cafferty officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Goldston, a graduate of Goldston High School and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was a former agent operator with Norfolk Southern Railroad and founder of Samuel Cheek Wholesale Co. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, served two terms as mayor of Goldston, was a member of the Town Board, of the Southern Wholesale and National Wholesale Association, a charter member of the Goldston Lions Club and a member of the Sons of the Confederacy General Robert E. Lee Camp #803 of Sanford. He was in the Chatham County Historical Society and the Domiciliary Home Advisory Committee for Chatham County and served on the Administrative Board, a Sunday School superintendent and teacher at his church.

Surviving are wife, Reba Johnson Cheek of Goldston; son, Samuel Johnson Cheek of Camden, S.C.; daughter, Rebecca C. Searcy of Forest City; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

Julia P. Burke
Julia Poole Burke, 92, of 2220 Old County Farm Road, Sophia, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, at Asheboro Health and Rehabilitation.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Asheboro Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. James Ward and the Rev. Raeford Brim officiating. Burial will be in Robbins Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and President of the Women's Ministry at her church for 25 years.

Surviving are son, James C. Poole of Sacramento, Calif.; brothers, Joseph Wray Poole of Sophia, Gordon Poole of Asheboro; niece, Judy Luck of Asheboro, whom she raised; nephew, Joseph Poole Jr. of Fishers, Ind., whom she raised.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

RAMSEUR - Troy Edwin Caveness, 79, of 6083 Troy Caveness Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at Aiken Regional Hospital, Aiken, S.C.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Parks Cross Roads Christian Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. James Turner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a retired poultry farmer, a deacon at his church and president of the Chatham Gideon Camp.

Surviving are wife, Margaret Gilbert Caveness of the home; sons, Gene Caveness of Aiken, S.C., Hal Caveness of Wilkesboro, Phil Caveness of Ramseur; daughters, Sandra Thompson of Eden, Celeste Clark of Emmalena, Ky.; sister, Katherine York of Gastonia; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Rockingham County, the widow of Garfield Harden, retired from Blue Bell, Greensboro, and was a member of the Greensboro Farmer Market.

Surviving are daughter, Barbara Gardner of Randleman; sons, Glenn A. Harden, Claude W. Harden, both of Randleman, Ralph D. Harden of Mebane; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

REIDSVILLE - Charles Austin Trotter, 83, of 106 Neal St., died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, at Annie Penn Hospital, Reidsville.

He was a native of Davidson County, retired from Frank Lamb Construction Company as a carpenter and attended Covington Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are wife, Virginia Southard Trotter of Eden; daughters, Ann Cox of Asheboro, Irene Bray, Carolyn Jones, both of the home; Missy Gover of Reidsville; son, Frank Charles Trotter of Reidsville; sisters, Ruby Branson, Ella Rae Gordon, both of Thomasville; brothers, Raeford Trotter, Clarence Trotter, Jimmy Trotter, all of Thomasville; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

EAGLE SPRINGS - Ashley Elizabeth LeGrand, 17, of 7632 N.C. 705 died Wednesday, Feb. 24,1999.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Rock Hill Friends Church, with the Rev. John Powell and the Rev. Scott Woody officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, a senior at North Moore High School where she was a cheerleader, a member of the Annual Staff and a member of the school chorus.

Surviving are parents, Joanna Dunlap LeGrand and Vernon Q. LeGrand of the home; sister, Corey Brooke LeGrand of the home; grandparents, Lenora W. Dunlap and J.E. Dunlap of Robbins, Pauline Brown LeGrand and Alvin L. LeGrand of Eagle Springs.

ROBBINS - Hannah Maria Seawell, 18, of 241 Rockingham St., died Wednesday, Feb. 24,1999.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Elise Presbyterian Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Jerry Vuncannon and the Rev. Bob Fletcher officiating. Burial will be in Highfalls United Methodist Church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, a senior at North Moore High School where she was editor of the school paper, a cheerleader and in 1998 was chosen to participate in the Cotton Bowl game in Dallas, Texas with the All American Cheer Leading Squad. She was on her school Homecoming Court and a former member of the school chorus, Spanish Club and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Surviving are parents, Joyce Garner Seawell and Jerry W. Seawell of Robbins; grandparents, Betty Lewis Garner and Arnold Garner and Betty and Wilton Seawell, all of Robbins.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

He was a native of Clarksville, Va., a former manager of Bi-Rite Supermarket in Liberty, a 32nd degree Mason in Masonic Lodge 532, Hamlet, attended Cartledge Creek Baptist Church, Ellerbe, and was a retired state employee with the ABC Stores.

Surviving are wife, Mary Magdalene Briggs of the home; sons, Larry Briggs of Asheboro, Eddie Briggs Sr. of Ramseur; daughter, Deborah Kay B. Covington of Asheboro; sister, Gertrude Brooks of Laurinburg; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home, 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

Patricia M. Brooks
Patricia Miller Brooks, 56, of 1109 Greenmont Drive, Asheboro, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Michael Jordan, the Rev. Charles Spivey and the Rev. William Osborne officiating.

She was a graduate of Limestone College, where she majored in music, an Asheboro City Schools teacher at the Alternative School, a past Worthy Matron of the Weatherly Chapter #271 Order of the Eastern Star and was a former member of the Greensboro Women's Club.

Surviving are husband, Phillip Kelly Brooks; son, Kelly Brooks; daughter, Meredith Brooks; mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. John Danzy Kersh of Gastonia; father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grady Miller of Gastonia; brothers, Dan Kersh of Fort Mills, S.C., Richard Miller, Robert Miller, both of Gastonia; sisters, Sandra Lindley of Dallas, Robin Miller of Gastonia.

She was a native of Columbus County, the widow of Oscar L. Priest Sr., a former Randolph County assistant tax collector and a graduate of Louisburg College.

Surviving are son, O. Lynn Priest Jr. of Asheboro; sister, Annie Laurie Strickland of Whiteville; two granddaughters.

Surviving are sister, Ruby Harmon of Randleman; sons, James Harmon of Randleman, Rodney Pulsipher of Elk Grove, Calif., Bart Pulsipher of Kansas; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
