He was a native of Chatham County, a member of First Baptist Church in Liberty and of American Legion Post 81 in Liberty and retired from Textured Fibers, Liberty.
Surviving are wife, Sula Frazier Smith of the home; daughter, Clista Curtis of Vista, Calif.; brother, F. Herman Smith of Raleigh; one grandson.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of Lacy Calvin Chappell, a homemaker, a member of Candor United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, the Home Demonstration Club and the Republican Women's Club.

She was a native of Mt. Gilead, the widow of Charlie H. Martin, retired from the Stokes County ASCS, and taught the Children's' class in the Danbury Sunday School.

She was a native of Randleman and the widow of Harold B. Walker.

MCCOLL, S.C. - William Walter "Bill" Carraway, 84, of 3257 Academy Road, died Friday, April 8, 1999, at Hamlet Hospital, Hamlet.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pine Grove United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Carl Hunsucker officiating. Burial will be in the Adams-McGregor Cemetery.
He was a native of Greene County, N. C., a graduate of Snow Hill High School and attended the University of North Carolina. He was a farmer, a former Corporal in the N.C. Highway Patrol, retired from the Compliance Section of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture and was the treasurer at his church for many years.
Surviving are wife, Eutha A. Carraway; daughters, Mattie Frank Carraway of the home, Betty C. Lee of Asheboro; brothers, Arthur Carraway of Snow Hill, E.R. "Pete" Carraway of Greenville, Ben Carraway of Raleigh; sister, Pattie Carraway of Snow Hill; two grandchildren.

He was a native of Montgomery County, attended First Wesleyan Church, was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a licensed pyrotechnician who was in charge of fireworks displays in Troy and worked with the Special Forces in Fort Bragg.

She was a retired dairy farmer, a newspaper correspondent for 37 years, worked at the South Newlin Township Board of Elections polls, was a member of Eli Whitney Extension Homemakers Club and a past member of Alamance County Historical Society.
