Carl Lonnie Westmoreland, 62, of 278 Emmanuel Church Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, May 1, 1999, at Asheboro Health and Rehabilitation.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Kelly Shiflett officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Davidson County, the widower of Darlene Bumgarner Westmoreland, a U.S. Air Force veteran and was retired from H & H Furniture Manufacturing.

Surviving is sister, Dorothea W. Meyers of Orlando, Fla.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home of Gene and Betty Bumgarner, 5329 Seagrove Plank Road, Asheboro.

Norman H. Wright
Norman Hayworth Wright, 85, of 4905 N.C. 42 South, Asheboro, died Friday, April 30, 1999, at Clapp's Nursing Home, Asheboro.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Union Grove United Church of Christ Cemetery, with the Rev. Dan Brown officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County, a retired carpenter and attended Union Grove United Church of Christ.

Surviving are sons, Harold Wright of Asheboro, Brack Wright of Ramseur; sisters, Mary Coble and Edith Brookbank, both of Asheboro; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.

The family will be at the church immediately following the service.

Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, is in charge of the arrangements.

RANDLEMAN - Thomas Watson May, 79, of Asheboro Health and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of 3449 Benny Lineberry Road, Climax, died Saturday, May 1, 1999, at the center.

Funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. Monday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, with the Rev. John Harmon officiating. Burial will be in Grays Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with military honors.

He was a native of Guilford County, a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a retired poultry farmer.

Surviving are wife, Lena Mae Millikan May of Asheboro; sister, Josephine Thomas of McLeansville; brothers, James R. May of Franklinville, Cecil May of Liberty.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday.

LIBERTY - Iris Humble Fogleman, 79, of 6406 Smithwood Road, died Thursday, April 29, 1999, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Smithwood United Church of Christ, where she was a member, with Dr. Kenneth R. Register and Dr. Robert Delp officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Guilford County, the widow of Millard Fogleman, a member of the Ladies Sunshine Class at her church and a secretary of the Smithwood Memorial Cemetery Association. She was a former employee of Liberty Hosiery Mill of Gibsonville and a retired employee of Liberty Chair Company.

Surviving is brother, H. Byard Humble of Liberty.

LIBERTY - F.C. "Buddy" Murray, 75, of 3062 W. Greensboro-Chapel Hill Road, died Friday, April 30, 1999, at Duke University Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Joe Hicks and the Rev. Jeff Gardner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Alamance County, a deacon, Sunday School teacher and former trustee at his church, and a World War II veteran.

Surviving are wife, Dorothy Branson Murray of the home; daughter, Leasa M. Henry of Kimesville; sons, Don Carroll Murray of Burlington, R. Craig Murray of Liberty; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 6-8 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

BURLINGTON - Ralph T. Sutton Sr., 66, of 3250 Maple Ave., died Thursday, April 29, 1999, at his home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Bellemont United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Jeff Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Guilford County, retired from the Greensboro Fire Department with the rank of Captain after 38 years, was a former Sunday school teacher, formerly was involved with the Boy Scouts of America, worked for Kinard Pharmacy, Greensboro, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are wife, Faye W. Sutton of the home; daughters, Terri Skiver of Liberty, Kimberlyn Bullis of Graham; son, Ralph Thomas "Ty" Sutton Jr. of Burlington; sister, Merle Coble of Greensboro; brother, Jack Sutton of Seagrove; four grandchildren.

Rich & Thompson Mortuary, Burlington, is in charge of the arrangements.

TROY - William Ledbetter Brown Jr., 67, of 430 E. Main St., died Friday, April 30, 1999, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Troy Pentecostal Holiness Church, with the Rev. George Harper officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery.

He was a native of Guilford County, a U.S. Air Force veteran and a retired truck driver.

Surviving are wife, Annie Liz Wright Brown of the home; daughters, Joanna White, Novella Wright, Elizabeth Cranford and Leslie Wright, all of Troy, Rea Walker and Jennings Dunn, both of Greensboro; sons, Bill Wright and James Wright, both of Troy, Joey Wright of Asheboro; brother, Hurley Brown of Mt. Gilead; 22 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

MT. GILEAD - John Ivey Harrison, 82, of 119 Haithcock Road, died Friday, April 30, 1999, at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Hamer Creek Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Alex Willoughby and the Rev. Eddie Jarvis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a World War II veteran and a retired employee of Carolina Power and Light Co.

Surviving are wife, Mae Byrd Harrison of the home; daughters, Margaret Hutchinson of Sanford, Mary Lucas of Mt. Gilead; sisters, Alma Harrison of Troy, Gertie Chappell and Ann Kearns, both of Mt. Gilead; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

BENNETT - Mary Williams Brady, 81, of 394 Bernard Purvis Road, died Saturday, May 1, 1999, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Monday at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Andrew Scott and the Rev. David Hobson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Ralph Brady of the home; daughters, Carol Smith of Bennett, Becky Langley of Staley; sister, Berline Green of Star; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Joyce-Brady Funeral Home, Bennett, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Otha W. Davis
WILSON - Otha William Davis, 88, of N.C. 58 North, died Friday, April 30, 1999, at Wilson Memorial Hospital.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Davis Family Cemetery, Rt. 2, Conway, with the Rev. Eugene Carmichael officiating.

He was a native of Northampton County.

Surviving are wife, Mary S. Davis; daughters, Jackie Davis of Bailey, Virginia D. Allen of Germanton; brother, Horace Davis of Asheboro; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, is in charge of the arrangements.

Wayne W. Selig
SILER CITY - Wayne William Selig, 47, of 713 W. 3rd St., Apt. A, died Saturday, May 1, 1999, at 7723 Kivett Farm Road, Staley.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City, with the Rev. Johnny Lewis officiating.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and employed with Charles Craft Inc., Siler City, for 10 years.

Surviving are mother, Mary Selig LaRue of Siler City; sons, Billy Selig of Siler City, Bryan Selig of Staley; brother, Herbert G. Selig of Siler City; two granddaughters.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home of Billy Selig, 202 E. 9th St., Siler City.

Mescal S. Ferguson
RANDLEMAN - Mescal Swaim Ferguson, 81, died Sunday, May 2, 1999, at her home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. David Hamlyn, Dr. Donald Maddox and Kevin Almond officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Howard Ferguson and a homemaker. She was active with the Randolph Community College Foundation, Randolph Hospital Foundation Board, the Randolph County and Randleman Public Libraries, and Randolph County and North Randolph Historical Societies. She was building fund treasurer at her church for 30 years and taught the Star Willing Workers Sunday School Class. She was a member of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Chancellor's Club and received the Campbell University Presidential Medallion and an honorary associate degree from RCC, both this year.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Jonah Chriscoe
SEAGROVE - Jonah Chriscoe, 77, of 4217 Fork Creek Mill Road, died Sunday, May 2, 1999, at his home.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Roger Riffe officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County and retired from Burlington Industries.

Surviving are wife, Annie B. Chriscoe of the home; sons, Harvey E. Chriscoe of Ramseur, Jerrell R. Chriscoe of Seagrove, Virgil Chriscoe of Robbins, Benson P. Chriscoe of Asheboro; daughters, Shirley Moore and Brenda Williamson, both of Seagrove, Reba Williamson of Asheboro; sister, Fannie Spencer of Seagrove; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

SEAGROVE - Leonard Hylton Kern, 71, of 3963 U.S. 220 South, died Sunday, May 2, 1999, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ether United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Jerry Martin, the Rev. James Hamilton, the Rev. John Auler and the Rev. Daniel Gazaway officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a farmer and helped build several churches.

Surviving are wife, Faith Gazaway Eggen Kern of the home; daughters, Karen Pedersen of Ether, Cheryl Lanier of Asheboro, Joy Reynolds of Star, Jana Eggen of High Point; sons, Richard Kern of Asheboro, H. Max Kern of Summerfield, Leonard H. Kern Jr., James J. Eggen, both of Star; 22 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the home 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

She was a native of Guilford County, the widow of Rassie E. Herndon, a member of the United Methodist Women's Organization and a published poet.

Surviving are daughters, Helen O'Neill of Tampa, Fla., Margie Ward of Greensboro; sons, Harold Herndon of Pleasant Garden, Bobby Herndon and Don Herndon, both of Liberty; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Surviving are husband, Brian Saunders of Siler City; daughter, Hannah Lauren Saunders of Siler City; son, Bryson Clay Saunders of Siler City; father, David Welch of Siler City; mother, Linda Welch of Siler City; sister, Dana W. Sheffield of Siler City; brothers, Kenneth Welch, Ted Welch, both of Asheboro; grandmother, Allie Johnson of Siler City.

BURLINGTON - Juanita Davis Fitch, 87, of White Oak Manor, formerly of 2039 Lower Hopedale Road, died Saturday, May 1, 1999, at White Oak Manor.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home, Burlington, with the Rev. Bennie Smith and the Rev. Wallis Smith officiating. Burial will be in Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Troy, the widow of L.I. Fitch, retired from the textile industry, was of the Baptist faith and a member of Women of the Moose, Burlington.

Surviving are sons, Jeff Fitch of Issaquh, Wash., John "Sonny" Fitch, Darrell Fitch, Gary Fitch, Jim Fitch, all of Burlington; daughter, Marie F. Canupp of Danville, Va.; sisters, Rebecca Luther, Mildred Wiles, Virginia White, all of Asheboro; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Jim and Gary Fitch, 2039 Lower Hopedale Road.

BISCOE - Bonnie Lynthacum Hurley, 76, of 358 Auman Road, died Sunday, May 2, 1999, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, with the Rev. Hubert McLeod officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery, Troy.

She was a native of Montgomery County and retired from Pine Hosiery Mill.

Surviving are daughters, Carolyn Key, Barbara Morton, both of Biscoe, Pansy Hurley of Candor; sons, Bobby Hurley, Charles Hurley, both of Biscoe, Ricky Hurley of Troy; brother, Reece Lynthacum of Biscoe; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

ROBBINS - Carl LeRoy Chavez, 33, of Green Street, died Sunday, May 2, 1999, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Doub's Chapel Methodist Church, with the Rev. Clarence Garner officiating. Burial will be in Culdee Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Surviving are parents, Paul F. and Nancy Garrison Chavez of West End; brother, Paul H. Chavez of West End.
