Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Cross Hill Cemetery.

Surviving are daughters, Ruth Speer of West End, Arlethia Flowers of Florence, S.C., and Carol Edwards of High Point; 30 grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

GOLDSBORO - Clarence Comer died Thursday, May 6, 1999, at the VA Medical Center in Durham.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David France and Rev. Glenn Byrd officiating. Graveside service with military honors will be 4 p.m. Monday at Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Surviving are wife, Juanita Miller Comer; son, Robert Comer of Fallbrook, Calif.; brother, Causey E. Comer of Brooksville, Fla.; sister, Jewell Beane of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 4-6 p.m. Sunday.

NORRISTOWN, Pa. - Nina Freeman Lee, 87, of 1520 Stanbridge St., died Sunday, May 2, 1999, at Artman Home in Ambler, Pa.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Shady Grove Christian Church in Seagrove with the Rev. Jeff Freeman and the Rev. Tracy Ritter. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County and a nurse's aide for Norristown State Hospital.

Surviving are sons, Douglas Lee of Norristown, Pa., Otis Bennett Lee of California, Charles Lee of Huntington, Pa., and Elwood Lee of Belle Fonte, Pa.; daughter, Linda Jacobe of Collegeville, Pa.; sisters, Mary Posey and Nell Hicks, both of Randleman, Alese Cole of Asheboro and Alice O. Jackson of Pleasant Garden; brothers, Barna Freeman, Raymond Freeman and Talmadge Freeman, all of Randleman; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home Randleman 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday.

CARTHAGE - Vernon C. Oldham, 76, of Putnam-Glendon Road, died Saturday, May 8, 1999, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Putnam Friends Church with the Rev. Ernest Moore, Rev. Billy Joe Brady and Rev. D.L. Hussey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Surviving are daughters, Brenda Upchurch of Highfalls and Gail Oldham-Allmon and Pam O. Brady, both of Carthage; sister, Susie O. Stutts of Robbins; brothers, Jessie Oldham and Kelly Oldham, both of Carthage, and Pete Oldham of Glendon; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Hallie C. Reaves
SOUTHERN PINES - Hallie Craven Reaves, 86, died Thursday, May 6, 1999, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Southern Pines United Methodist Church with Dr. Mark Wethington officiating. Burial with Masonic rites will be 5 p.m. in Oaklawn Cemetery in Asheboro.

He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina with a degree in pharmacy, owner and operator of Reaves Walgreen Agency Drug Store in Asheboro for 22 years, founder of the Medical Center Pharmacy in Pinehurst, a Shriner and a charter member of Asheboro Masonic Lodge 699.

Surviving are sons, Hallie C. Reaves Jr. of Pinehurst and Williams Reaves of Seven Lakes; daughters, Susan R. Cooper of Southern Pines and Nancy Crissman of Conyers, Ga.; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church following the service.

Memorials may be made to Southern Pines United Methodist Church, 175 Midland Road, Southern Pines, N.C. 28387 or to a charity of the donor's choice.

She was a native of Montgomery County.

Surviving are husband, Transue Williams of the home; sons, Roger B. Williams of Jackson Springs, Mike E. Williams of Seagrove and Gary L. Williams of Candor; sister, Peggy Moore of Star; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Rosa Jane Freeman Luther Davis, 90, of 536 Oakgrove Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, May 9, 1999, at Sunrise Care & Rehabilitation, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Eleazer United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Derald Smith officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of both Raymond Luther and Will A. Davis, the Post Mistress of Eleazer Post Office and was retired from Stedman Corp.

Surviving are daughters, Ruby Allene Hall, Shelby Jean Morris, both of Asheboro; sons, Robert F. "Bobby" Luther of Seagrove, W. Roger Luther of Asheboro; stepdaughters, Patsy Davis of Albemarle, Elaine Harris of Granite Falls; stepsons, Jimmy Davis, Lavern Davis, both of Albemarle; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Sumners of Denton, Addie King of Troy; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Luther, 471 Mack Road, Asheboro.

Vera Yates Vickory Dunlap, 77, of 704 W. Kivett St., Asheboro, died Saturday, May 8, 1999, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Charlie Miller officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Claude E. Dunlap Sr. and a member of West Bend United Methodist Church.

Surviving are son, Jerry Vickory of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; sisters, Sandra Inman of Level Cross, Carolyn Hardister of Greensboro; brother, Sam Yates of Knoxville, Tenn.; stepdaughters, Brenda Mims of Fayetteville, Pam Dunlap of Greensboro; stepson, C.W. Dunlap Jr. of Asheboro; three grandchildren; 14 stepgrandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Effie Williams Morgan, 79, of 2118 Pisgah Covered Bridge Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, May 9, 1999, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at High Pine Wesleyan Church, with the Rev. Wyatt Hoogkamp and the Rev. George Simmons officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was the widow of Coy Morgan and a member of High Pine Wesleyan Church Sunday School.

Surviving are daughters, Emogene Morgan and Doris Leonard, both of the home; sisters, Dorothy Hulin, Alta Conner, Lillian Bailey, all of Asheboro; brothers, Herbert Williams of Asheboro, Nolan Williams of Whittier.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

RANDLEMAN - Kathleen Robbins Layton, 95, of Franklinville, died Sunday, May 9, 1999.

Warren F. Lee
KANNAPOLIS - Warren Ferguson "Buddy" Lee, 54, of 1009 Cedar Creek Road, died Sunday, May 9, 1999, at Northeast Medical Center, Concord.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rodgers Park Baptist Church, Kannapolis, with the Rev. Tony S. Fox officiating. Burial will be 4 p.m. at Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Manning, S.C.

He was employed by Southern Irrigation as a site superintendent, was a U.S. Navy veteran of Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart and was a member of Blackmer Masonic Lodge of Mt. GIlead and the Scottish Rite Bodies of Charlotte. He was formerly a police officer in Concord and Mt. Gilead and a deputy with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department.

Surviving are wife, Reta Burgess Lee of the home; daughter, Tara Michelle Lee of the home; mother, Runette "Bee" Lee of Concord; brother, William Lee of Concord; sister, Maryann L. Bruton of Salisbury, Md.

The family will be at the church 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

GOLDSBORO - Lloyd Clarence Comer died Thursday, May 6, 1999, at the VA Medical Center in Durham.

He was a native of Moore County and retired from the U.S. Air Force where he was a veteran of World War II.

Surviving are wife, Juanita Miller Comer; son, Robert Comer of Fallbrook, Calif.; brother, Causey E. Comer of Brooksville, Fla.; sister, Jewell Beane of Asheboro.

Memorials may be made to Westwood United Methodist Church, 130 Short St., Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.

Betty S. Long
Betty Jo Smith Long, 60, of 207 S. Park St., Asheboro, died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at her home.

Funeral service will be held at a later date in Kansas.

She was a native of Central City, Ky., and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughter, Shirley Darwish of Asheboro; sons, Greg McGuire, Jamie McGuire and Mike Miller, all of Kansas; brother, David Wright of Florida; 10 grandchildren.

Surviving are son, Gary Cooper of Siler City; daughters, Blanche "Betty" Johnson of Staley, Mary Cooper of Miramar, Fla.; sisters, Nina Orifice, Bianoa Della Pia, Eleana Massa, Rita Picardio, all of Naples, Italy; brothers, Frank Capobianco, Ralphael Capobianco; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

Inez H. Russell
TROY - Inez Helsabeck Russell, 86, of 217 W. Spring St., died Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service was 11 a.m. Thursday at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, with Dr. Walter Yoho officiating. Burial was in Southside Cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, attended Trinity United Methodist Church and was a retired counselor at Samarcand Manor in Eagle Springs.

Surviving are son, James F. Russell of Goldston; brothers, Wyatt Helsabeck of Port Charlotte, Fla., Roscoe Helsabeck of High Point; sister, Polly Fry of Carthage; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Vernon White
Walter Vernon White, 79, of 2825 Loe Fall Ave., Asheboro, died Thursday, May 13, 1999, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Baxter Craven officiating. Burial will be in Spoon's Chapel United Church of Christ Cemetery.

He was a native of Anson County, the widower of Thelma Shepherd White, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and retired from Whit Corp.

Surviving are daughters, Vickie W. Allred and Pat W. Shelton, both of Asheboro; two grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, with Dr. Charles Adams and the Rev. Lynn Cash officiating. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park, Greensboro.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Ruby Smith Bass of the home; daughters, Lorraine Hoy of the home, Jean Pickens of Burlington, Mary Dunn of Siler City; sisters, Nell Lineberry of Greensboro, Patricia Lashley of Climax, Catherine Barber of Mebane; brothers, James Bass of Greensboro, Lawrence Bass of South Boston, Va., H.D. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, with the Rev. Junior Dawkins and the Rev. C.J. York officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County, a member of Worthville Baptist Church and a retired employee of Leward Mills.

Surviving are daughters, Ruth Julian Lane of Greensboro, Helen Julian Toomes of Franklinville, Dolly Julian Curtis of Asheboro; son, C.M. "Tom" Julian Jr. of Franklinville; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Helen J. Toomes, 2129 Millboro Road, Franklinville.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Old Sheffield Cemetery in Randleman.

He was a native of Randolph County and a self-employed carpenter.

Surviving are daughter, Jennifer Michelle Haithcox of Bennett; son, Timothy Adam Haithcox of Seagrove; parents, Ben and Louise Brown Haithcox of the home; sister, Cindy Garner of Trinity; brother, Benjy Howell of Morganton.
