MONROE - The Rev. Bobby D. Furr, 66, died Saturday, June 5, 1999, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at McEwen Funeral Home Colonial Chapel in Monroe, with the Rev. Joe Marze officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park.

He was a native of Concord and a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Marion T. Furr; son, Ray Furr of Greensboro; daughter, Pat F. Garren of Asheboro; sisters, Barbara Adcock of Charlotte and Dorothy Rape of Monroe; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Buck Strider
ROCKINGHAM - Oscar Lee "Buck" Strider, 83, of 231 Airport Road, died Friday, June 4, 1999, at Richmond Memorial Hospital in Rockingham.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Glenwood Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. David Lee and the Rev. Jerry Goins officiating. Burial will be in Richmond County Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County, a retired cardroom fixer, an employee of Richmond Farm Supply and the widower of Louise Edwards Strider.

Surviving are brothers, Paul Strider of Cedar Falls and Dick Strider of Rockingham; sisters, Flossie Ruppe of Danville, Va., and Gladys Hodge of Randleman; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham is in charge of arrangements.

Nick E. Crotts
Nick "Bud" Ervin Crotts, 54, of 1343 Mountain View Drive, Asheboro, died Saturday, June 5, 1999.

There will be no service.

He was a native of Randolph County, formerly employed with Old Dominion in High Point, was a U.S. Army veteran and of the Methodist faith.

Surviving are daughters, Beth Tilley of Asheboro, Natasha Crotts and Mickie Crotts, both of Denton; son, Allen Bruce Crotts of Asheboro; mother and step-father, Beatrice and William Trotter of Sophia; sister, Betty C. Fagan of Jamestown; brother, Terry Lee Trotter of High Point; five grandchildren.

The family will be at Sechrest Funeral Home, Archdale, 5-7 p.m. Tuesday.

Emma P. Williams
Emma Parks Williams, 97, of 4021 High Pine Church Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, June 6, 1999, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at High Pine Wesleyan Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Wyatt Hoogkamp and the Rev. George Simmons officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and a homemaker.

Surviving are son, A. J. Williams of Asheboro; daughters, Leta W. Rice and Thelma W. Miller, both of Asheboro, Martha W. Crotts of Greensboro; sisters, Hazel Wright, Ruth Gray and Ruby Callicutt, all of Asheboro; brother, Ervin Parks of Asheboro; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Paul D. Lamb Sr.
CEDAR FALLS - Paul David Lamb Sr., 86, of 1394 Jennings Road, died Sunday, June 6, 1999, at Graybrier Nursing Home, Trinity.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Whites Memorial Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Pete Lamb, the Rev. Jon Shook and the Rev. Bill Hale officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired from Sapona Manufacturing Company, a deacon, teacher and Sunday School Superintendent at his church and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Mary Carter Lamb of the home; sons, Rev. Peter G. Lamb of Ramseur, Paul David Lamb Jr. of Randleman; stepson, John L. Carter of Randleman; daughter, Brenda L. Cook of Randleman; sisters, Ruth Lineberry of Franklinville, Maude Cook of Asheboro; five grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

RAMSEUR - Edith Burroughs Richardson, 70, of 1165 Patterson Grove Road, died Sunday, June 6, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Garry Reeder and the Rev. Bryant Dark officiating. Burial will be in Patterson Grove Christian Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, a homemaker and a member of Corner Stone Baptist Church.

Surviving are husband, Vaughn Richardson of the home; daughters, Becky R. Thomas of Asheboro, Barbara R. Saunders of Franklinville; sisters, Pearlie Pugh of Ramseur, Eulah Lowe and Irene Campbell, both of Siler City, Gracie Cranford and Effie Hutchins, both of Asheboro, Marie Long of Franklinville; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one stepgrandson.

John L. Gourley
GREENSBORO - John Lee "Bud" Gourley, 81, of 5512 Eckerson Road, died Sunday, June 6, 1999, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hines Chapel Church, where he was a member. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park.

He was a native of Guilford County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a retired employee of the Wysong-Miles Company.

Surviving are wife, Irene Walker Gourley of the home; brother, Robert D. Gourley of Haw River.

The family will be at Forbis and Dick Funeral Home, North Elm Street, Greensboro, 6-8 p.m. Monday.

Surviving are wife, Lydia Johnson Nails of Robbins; son, John Nails of Georgia; stepsons, Ronald Johnson, Anthony Johnson and Orlando Johnson, both of Robbins; daughters, Juliette Johnson and Edweena Agyemany, both of Georgia.

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Maggie Evans of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., formerly of Asheboro, died Thursday, June 3, 1999.

Funeral service was 12:30 p.m. Monday at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, North Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Surviving are husband, Hayes Evans; three sons; one daughter; sister, Helen Robbins; three granddaughters.

Helen Josephine Wrobel Dennis, 75, of Sunrise Care & Rehabilitation of Asheboro, died Sunday, June 6, 1999, at Sunrise Care.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Mike Moran officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Castle, N.Y., and retired from the Bank of New Mexico.

Surviving are daughters, Katherine Dennis, Sandra Canoy of Asheboro, Judy Seabolt of Sunset Beach; son, Chris Dennis of Greensboro; brother, Stanley Wrobel of Punta Gorda, Fla.; sister, Alice Thomas of Midland; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

James G. Pack Sr.
TROY - James Grant Pack Sr., 57, of 1036 N. Main St. Apt. 1-D, died Sunday, June 6, 1999, at Britthaven of Piedmont, Albemarle.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Troy Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. George Harper and the Rev. Lonnie Poole officiating. Burial will be in West End Cemetery.

He was a native of Richmond County, a graduate of West End High School and the Durham Institute of Barbering and retired from Troy Barber Styling.

Surviving are wife, Brenda Turner Pack of the home; sons, James Pack Jr. and David Pack, both of Troy; daughters, Gracia Walker and Janet Thompson, both of Troy; brothers, John Pack of Charlotte, Charles Pack of Highfalls; sisters, Billie Ingram and Mildred Pusser, both of West End, Dene Moon of Southern Pines; eight grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at 4927 Lovejoy Road, Troy.

She was a native of Randolph County and a Garden Center Associate at Wal-Mart.

Surviving are parents, Mr. and Mrs. Val Thornburg of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 10-11 a.m. Friday.

Clyde Hunter
James Clyde Hunter, 72, of 507 S. McCrary St., Asheboro, died Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Randolph Memorial Park, with the Rev. Tommy Smith officiating.

He was a native of Stokes County, retired from Goodyear and had worked for several years at B.B. Walker Company.

Surviving are wife, Frankie Lee Hunter; daughter, Debra H. Cox of Asheboro; son, James Phillip "Phil" Hunter of Ramseur; brothers, Lloyd Hunter of Asheboro, Wayne Hunter of Dallas, Texas, Archie Hunter of Mesquite, Texas; sisters, Frances York and Avon Trogdon, both of Asheboro, Ann Smith of Alaska; six grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

Vera W. Richardson
Vera Williams Richardson, 74, of 157 N. Broad St., Seagrove, died Wednesday June 9, 1999, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Dr. Charles Highsmith
TROY - Dr. Charles Highsmith, 82, of Troy, died Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Troy, where he was a member, with the Rev. Charles Cook and the Rev. Bill Sabiston officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery.

He was a native of Dunn, a 1938 graduate of Wake Forest College, a 1942 graduate of George Washington School of Medicine, a 1947 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and did surgical training at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He was a retired surgeon in Montgomery County, a member and chairman of the Montgomery County commissioners, helped to found Montgomery Country Club and was on its board of directors, and was a member of the Montgomery Historical Society. He was a member of the board of The Montgomery County Fund, and established endowments for a nursing scholarship at Montgomery Community College, and for support of the Roller Mill museum. He was a member of the founding board of trustees of Sandhills Community College and chairman of the building committee of the Montgomery County Public Library. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and served as Chief of Surgery at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C., during the war.

Surviving are wife, Mary Highsmith; daughter, Geneva Ellen H. Silver of Rye, N.Y.; sons, Charles David Highsmith and John Adams Highsmith, both of Winston-Salem; brother, Dr. George P. Highsmith of Thomasville; sister, Elizabeth Dunbar of High Point; stepdaughters, Leslie O. Gibbs of Thomasville, D.D. Beuerkle of Cape Giardeau, Mo.; stepson, Mike Ott of Columbia, S.C.; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Yates Spargo, 75, of 941 Lee St., Asheboro, died Tuesday, June 8, 1999, at his home.

He was a native of Gaston County, a member of the Richland Partners Blue Grass Band, retired from Burlington Industries after 35 years as an engineer and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Edith Spargo of the home; daughter, Judy Rice, of Glastonbury, Conn.; son, Danny Y. Spargo of Asheboro; stepbrother, Willard Bates, of Lake Wylie, S.C.; three grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

Gurney E. Davis
RANDLEMAN - Gurney Everett Davis, 90, of 924 Hub Morris Road, died Monday, June 7, 1999, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Faith Temple Baptist Church, with the Rev. Buddy Smith officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, had been employed with J.P. Stevenson and was a member of Gospel Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Annie Eloise Wright, Nelda Arlene Luck and Kathy Bonkemeyer, all of Randleman; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Kathy Bonkemeyer, 476 Angus Trail, Randleman.

Frances L. Brown
ROBBINS - Frances Livingston Brown, 78, of Cocoa Beach, Fla. and formerly of Robbins, died Sunday, June 6, 1999.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, with the Rev. Earl Dulaney officiating. Burial will be in Pine Rest Cemetery.

She was a native of Columbia, S.C., the widow of Carson Brady Brown and a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church. She was retired from the U.S. Army Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland as an Engineering Aide and had worked at Oak Ridge, Tenn., with the Atomic Energy Commission.

Surviving are sister, Carol L. Yount of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; brother, Joseph Earl Livingston of Burlington.

The family will be at the funeral home 1-2 p.m. Friday.

Sudie Marie Butler Staton, 80, of 877 Howard Ave., Asheboro, died Thursday, June 10, 1999, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Oakhurst Baptist Church, where she was a member, with Dr. Richard Crider and the Rev. Rob Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Sampson County and retired from Acme-McCrary.

Surviving are husband, M. Clyde Staton of the home; daughters, Shirley Hanner of Greensboro, Vivian Wright of Alexandria, Va., Joan Rodgers of Charlotte; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.
