Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Westside Missionary Baptist Church, with Dr. Joseph B. Walker officiating. Burial will be in New Zion Cemetery.

Surviving are sisters, Grace Davis, Estella D. Caviness and the Rev. Mary D. Shamberger, all of Robbins.

The family will be at Person Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Willie E. Gladden Sr.
Willie Edward Gladden Sr., 68, of 906 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Asheboro, died Monday, June 14, 1999, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Friday at the Look to Jesus Christian Center. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

He was a retired maintenance supervisor from Lexington Furniture after 32 years and the widower of Annie Benita Lindsay Gladden.

Surviving are daughters, Lorraine Trogdon and Jacqueline "Jackie" Martin, both of Asheboro, Benita Johnson of Philadelphia, Pa., Angela Gladden of Greensboro, Teresa Gladden of Winston-Salem, Cynthia Flint of Decatur, Ga.; sons, Willie Edward Gladden Jr. of Greensboro, Larry Gladden of Philadelphia, Pa., Ronald Covington of Asheboro; sisters, Gretchen Hayes and Elizabeth Ruffin, both of Asheboro, Betty Cooper of Bridgeport, Conn.; brothers, Leroy Gladden Jr. of Asheboro, Leotis Gladden of Virginia Beach, Va., Sal Gladden of Detroit, Mich., Henry Gladden of Cincinnati, Ohio, Tommy Gladden of Asheboro.

The family will be at the church 3 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

TRINITY - Fred Edward Kinley, 86, of 1955 Ross Wood Road, died Monday, June 14, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service was 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Lee Roy Hunt and the Rev. Rick Shoemaker officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Elsie "Pauline" Parks, was retired from Commercial Carving and was a self employed carpenter.

Surviving are daughters, Lois K. Ashley of Trinity, Joyce K. Greene, Mary K. Luck, Norma Jean K. Voncannon and Lorene K. Luck, all of Asheboro; sons, William "Ed" Kinley of Denton, Albert Lee Kinley of Trinity, Terry W. Kinley and Ralph Dean Kinley, both of Asheboro, Daniel "Danny" Ray Kinley of Lexington, Kenneth Dale Kinley of Seagrove; sister, Fleta Black of Lexington; brother, Joseph Kinley of Trinity; 21 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home, Thomasville, is in charge of the arrangements.

LIBERTY - Thelma M. York, 76, of 3194 Ramseur-Julian Road, died Tuesday, June 15, 1999, at Brian Center Nursing Home in Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Shiloh United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Carl Garner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are daughter, Elaine Freeman of Staley; son, Earl "Sonny" York of Liberty; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at 5184 Sandy Creek Church Road, Staley and at 3119 Ramseur-Julian Road, Liberty.

George E. Callicutt
TROY - George Elli Callicutt, 81, of 6763 Randall Hurley Road, died Monday, June, 14, 1999, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Callicutt Chapel Wesleyan Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Bobby Freeman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County and retired from saw milling.

Surviving are wife, Onnie Hurley Callicutt of the home; sons, Donald Callicutt and Kenneth Callicutt, both of Troy; daughters, Joy Hawkins of Chase City, Va., Judy West of Richmond, Va.; sister, Mae Callicutt of Troy; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

Joan M. Kersey
STAR - Joan McElhannon Kersey, 63, of 260 Cotton Creek Road, died Tuesday, June 15, 1999, at her home.

Funeral service will be 8 p.m. Thursday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. James Hamilton officiating. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County, a homemaker, a member of Worthville United Methodist Church, and a member of the Junior Women's Club and the Star Bridge Club.

Surviving are husband, Frank C. Kersey of the home; brother, A.W. McElhannon of Climax.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

CANDOR - James Calvin "JC" Myers, 74, of 330 S. McCallum St., died Monday, June 14, 1999, at his home.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Candor Cemetery, with the Rev. Mark Lykins officiating. Masonic graveside rites will follow.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a member of Candor United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Methodist Men, and a member of the Candor Lions Club where he was past president, past district zone chairman and twice Lion of the Year. He served 30 years at the Candor Fire Department, was a member of Woodmen of the World, the Biscoe Masonic Lodge #437 AF & AM, was an Eagle Scout with Gold and Silver leaves and served as a Boy Scout master and on the Montgomery County Scouting Board. He had been employed at Samarcand Manor as Farm Foreman # 2, at Central Carolina Vending and had retired from Briggs Candor Funeral Home.

Surviving are wife, Rebecca Saunders Myers of the home; brother, Roy Myers of Biscoe; sister, Catherine M. Fox of Candor.

The family will be at Briggs Candor Funeral Home, Candor, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of the sister, 304 Currie Road, Candor.

BENNETT - Bessie Thelma Scott Murray, 98, of Springwood Care Center, Winston-Salem, formerly of Bennett, died Tuesday, June 15, 1999, at the center.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Bennett Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Tim Strider and the Rev. Bob Bouldin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, a homemaker, a choir member at her church and a charter member of the Bennett Home Demonstration Club.

Surviving are daughters, Annie Bell Brady of McLeansville, Louise Garner of Rural Hall; seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Jessie Lee Stone Baker, 56, of 3483 New Hope Church Road #23, Asheboro, died Thursday, June 17, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Brad Thie officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Ron Baker, a homemaker, had worked at Black & Decker, was a member of North East Baptist Church in McLeansville and volunteer for the school systems.

Surviving are daughters, Jeanine B. Wilson of Asheboro, Ronda B. Shortridge of Graham; sister, Frances Stone Murdock of Sneads Ferry; brothers, Gentry Stone of Greensboro, Sam Stone of Kernersville; two grandsons.

The family will be at the funeral home 1-2 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

Howard F. Moore
SEAGROVE - Howard Franklin Moore, 56, of 276 Jugtown Road, died Thursday, June 17, 1999, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Needham Grove Church, with the Rev. James E. Cockram officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Era and was a retired machinist with Asheboro Machine Shop.

Surviving are wife, Joyce Williams Moore of the home; sisters, Louise Maness, Wilma Davis, Valleen Maness and Betty Garner, all of Seagrove; brothers, Rancie Moore of Asheboro, Wilbert Moore of Seagrove, Marvin Moore and Roy Moore, both of Robbins; stepbrother, Douglas Williams of Robbins.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Ellis Arrington
JULIAN - Ellis Arrington, 86, of 7059 Arrington Road, died Wednesday, June 16, 1999.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Macedonia Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Surry County, a self employed farmer, owner of a farm equipment business for the past 30 years, was a member of the Union Carpenters Association and a founding member of the Julian Lions Club.

Surviving are son, Allen Arrington; one grandson.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 6-8 p.m. Friday.

Lela Haywood
CANDOR - Bertia Lela Haywood, 89, of 220 South, formerly of Autumn Care Nursing Center, died Wednesday, June 16, 1999, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Candor Town Cemetery, with the Rev. Paul Snell officiating.

She was a graduate of Candor High School, retired from Bossong Hosiery of Asheboro and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving is brother, Earl Haywood of Star.

The family will be at Briggs Candor Funeral Home, Candor, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, other times at 1015 S. Main St., Candor.

Rosa L. Umfleet
BISCOE - Rosa Lee Umfleet, 84, of 211 Oak St., died Thursday, June 17, 1999, at her home.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, with the Rev. Wilson Harris officiating. Burial will be in Biscoe Cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County and a retired food service employee.

Surviving is sister, Dora Brown of Seagrove.

She was a native of Moore County.

Surviving are mother Patty Allred Maness of Robbins; brothers, Bradley D. Maness and Jason L. Maness, both of Robbins; grandmother, Virginia Phillips of Eagle Springs.

Gracy Harris, 44, of 530 N. Elm St., Asheboro, died Saturday, June 19, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

She was a native of Randolph County, a member of Covenant Christian Church and employed with Community Living Services of Randolph County Mental Health.

Surviving are husband, Frank Harris of Asheboro; daughters, Fermena Harris and Centera Harris, both of the home; son, Torrey Harris of the home; sisters, Linda Hill and Carolyn Harris, both of Asheboro, and Jackie Hill of Greensboro.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro 6-8 p.m. Monday.

Reece Loflin
Reece Loflin, 85, of 415 Cooper St., Asheboro, died Friday, June 18, 1999, at Wesley Long Community Hospital in Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. J. Nathan King officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County and the retired owner and operator of Save Oil Co.

Surviving are wife, Eula Simmons Loflin; daughter, Christine Loflin of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

She was a native of Chatham County, retired from Hadley Peoples Manufacturing Co., a member of the Men's and Ladies' Bible Class at her church and the widow of I. Henry Campbell.

Surviving are sisters, Mamie J. Jordan and Clara J. Lopossay, both of Siler City; brother, Leland Jones of Bennett.

Morton of Troy; sons, Samuel Jordan of the home and Aaron Wayne Strider of Randleman; sisters, Mary Louise Bradshaw of Graham, Betty Sue Spivey of Asheboro and Fern Moore of Panama City, Fla.; brother, Jesse Lee Strider of Boulder City, Nev.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home in Randleman 1-2 p.m. Sunday and other times at the home of a daughter, Frances J. Smith, 115 Church St., Randleman.
