David Edward Moore Jr., 38, of 1490 Brownstone Hill Drive, Asheboro, died Saturday, July 3, 1999, at Grand Strand Regional Hospital in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Assembly, where he was a member, with Glenn Sauls officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Harnett County, a member of the choir and ensemble at his church and a supervisor at Mastercraft Inc. in Troy.

Surviving are wife, Dorothy Arnette Moore of Asheboro; son, Michael David Moore of the home; stepdaughters, Paula Hamblin and Rebecca Cribbs, both of Asheboro; mother, Doris Moore of Wade; sisters, Evelyn Moore of Fayetteville and Elaine Moore of Concord; one stepgrandson.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

David C. Brower
LIBERTY - David Clifford Brower, 64, of 4781 N.C. 49 North, died Saturday, July 3, 1999, at his residence.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Wayne Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County and a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Barbara Isom Brower of the home; sister, Lena Gray Lineberry of Ramseur; brothers, Ronald Brower of Liberty and Jimmy Brower of Staley.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home in Liberty 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Minnie T. Hopkins
DENTON - Minnie Jane Taylor Hopkins, 92, of Mountain Vista Health Park, died Saturday, July 3, 1999, at her residence.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. James Cooper and the Rev. John Holsenback officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

She was a native of Stanly County, a homemaker and of the Methodist faith.

Surviving are son, James R. Hopkins of High Point; daughters, Martha Alene Hayes of Lexington, Jenna Mae Kirk of Thomasville, and Dorothy Othelia Harris and Betty Joann Russell, both of Denton; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday and at the Denton Civic Center 10 a.m.-5 p.m., excluding funeral hours, Tuesday.

Hoyt Lassiter
STAR - Hoyt Lassiter, 78, of 207 East St., died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at FirstHealth Montgomery Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Star, where he was a member, with the Rev. Nelson Chambers and the Rev. David M. Kime officiating. Burial will be in Leach Cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, retired from furniture manufacturing and a deacon at his church.

Surviving are wife, Hazel Wise Lassiter of Star; son, Steve Lassiter of Star; sisters, Ferrell Auman of Seagrove and Macie Cato of Fort Myers, Fla.; brother, Thurston Lassiter of Star.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home in Star 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Phil Stout
THOMASVILLE - Andrew "Phil" Stout, 65, of 164 Lee Circle, died Saturday, July 3, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary United Church of Christ, where he was a member, with the Rev. Harold Holste officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Alamance County, retired after 40 years in the sales department of Snyder Paper Corporation, a member and former chief of the Pilot Fire Department, a member of the Marie Alexander Sunday School class, a deacon and member of the Consistory at his church, a veteran of the National Guard and a high school football official.

Surviving are wife, Evelyn Goins Stout of the home; daughters, Dawn Goins and Liz Cranford, both of Thomasville; son, Michael Leonard of Thomasville; seven grandchildren.

The family will be at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. Monday and other times at the home of Michael Leonard, 2278 Old N.C. 29, Thomasville.

Christine C. Fennell
Christine Clark Fennell, 47, of 1745 Southwood Drive, Asheboro, died Saturday, July 3, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Asheboro High School Auditorium, with the Rev. John Butler officiating. Burial will be Saturday at Remount Cemetery in Montgomery, Ala.

She was a native of Montgomery, Ala., received her B.S. from Tuskegee University, master's from N.C. A&T State University in Education Supervision and Administration, and a master's from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in Elementary Education. She began her teaching career as a fifth-grade teacher at Seagrove Elementary School, had been principal of Balfour School since 1990 and had received numerous awards in education since being a part of the Asheboro City Schools system.

Surviving are daughter, Trenee' F. Cheek of Zebulon; son, Herman Wesley Fennell II of Greensboro; mother, Sarah P. Clark of Montgomery, Ala.; brother, Bernard Leon Clark of Houston, Texas.

The family will be at Asheboro High School noon-2 p.m. prior to the service on Thursday.

C.C. Hodges Funeral Service, Asheboro, is in charge of the arrangements.

SEAGROVE - Nora Lessie Cagle, 88, formerly of 3060 U.S. 220 North, died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at Manor Care Nursing.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Union Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Ron Copple officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Edna Allred, Allene Lambert, Ruby Key and Shirley Kennedy, all of Robbins; sister, Bessie Teague of Robbins; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

GREENSBORO - Kathy S. Brammer of 305 Kirk Road died Monday, July 5, 1999.

Surviving are husband, Otis J. Brammer; mother, Nell J. Schmidt; sister, Janet Hunter of Richardson, Texas; brother, Paul Schmidt of Ft. Worth, Texas; daughter, Gina Toomes of Randleman; one granddaughter.

LEXINGTON - Tom Louis Woods, 56, of 822 Green Needles Drive, died Friday, July 2, 1999, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Shepherd United Methodist Church, with the Rev. L.C. Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Robeson County and a construction worker.

Surviving are daughter, Elizabeth Ann Woods of Lexington; sons, Joe Dan Woods of Jamestown, Tommy L. Woods of Linwood; sisters, Jennie Ann Woods, Maggie Jane Woods, Beulah Mae Oxendine, all of Lumberton, Mabelene Woods of Pembroke; brother, Jimmy Woods of Lumberton; eight grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Joe Woods, 310 Logan Circle, Jamestown.

DENTON - Janie Frances Dorsett Cook, 76, of 24737 South N.C. 109, died Monday, July 5, 1999, at Community General Hospital in Thomasville.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Alleghany United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Peter McGuire and the Rev. Mike McClellan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Bryce Vaden Cook and a homemaker.

Surviving are sons, Larry Van Cook of Fredericksburg, Va., Gary Curtis Cook, Steve Allen Cook, Rickey Vaden Cook and Roger Dale Cook, all of Denton; sisters, Effie Owens of Blacksburg, Va., Martha Dorsett of Denton; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

Charles A. Reaves
Charles A. "Charlie" Reaves, 70, died Saturday, July 3, 1999, at his home.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, where he was a member.

He was a native of Asheboro, attended school in Asheboro, was a 1947 graduate of the Georgia Military Academy in Atlanta, where he was a member of the rifle team, and was a 1952 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy. He was the owner and operator of Reaves Pharmacy and CAR Drug in Asheboro, was a member of the Asheboro City Council from 1989-1997 and sat on the airport and library boards. He was a Shriner and a 32nd-degree Mason, a pilot and a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.

Surviving are wife, Evelyn Blaylock Reaves; sons, Chuck Reaves of Missoula, Mont., Ross Reaves of Asheboro; daughter, Cindy Walker of Asheboro; nine grandchildren.

The family will be at the church after the service.

Elbert V. Sikes, 89, formerly of Seagrove, died Tuesday, July 6, 1999, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation of Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Seagrove Christian Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Kelly Shiflett officiating. Burial will be in Whynot Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County and a retired farmer.

Surviving are wife, Pearl Sikes; daughters, Betty Russell of Randleman, Mary Brittain and Doris Allmond, both of Asheboro, Sue Rice of Garden City Beach, S.C.; sons, Ray K. Sikes, Lawrence Sikes, David Sikes and Jimmy Sikes, all of Asheboro, Tommy Sikes of Wichita Falls, Texas, Henry Sikes of Seagrove; brother, Nixon Sikes of Asheboro; sisters, Lillian Owens of Raleigh, Ornie Mae Buroughs of Ocean Springs, Miss., Evelyn Sikes, Louise Payne and Thelma Lee Kivett, all of Asheboro; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Geneva McNeil Matthews, 75, of 835 Thomas St., Asheboro, died Saturday, July 3, 1999, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Piney Ridge United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Liberty.

Surviving are daughters, Conelia Cheek of Sanford, Rosa Blackwell and Carol Campbell, both of Asheboro, Teresa Headen of Liberty; sons, Terry Matthews of Asheboro, Gary Matthews of Barlboro; sister, Sarah Brown of Liberty; 20 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 1-2 p.m. Saturday prior to the service.

TRINITY - Thomas Bynum Smith Sr., 76, of 7125 Old U.S. 64, died Monday, July 5, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home, Thomasville, with the Rev. Bonnie P. Harris and the Rev. Billy Rintz officiating. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Park, Concord.

He was a native of Davidson County, a World War lI U.S. Army veteran, retired from Commonwealth Hosiery in Randleman, and was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and Woodmen of the World.

Surviving are wife, Inez Arnold Smith of the home; daughter, Terri Montgomery of Rockwell; son, Thomas B. "Tommy" Smith Jr. of Kannapolis; sisters, Opal Frye of High Point, Mary Lou Thomas of Millington, Rosa Lee Mobley of Vero Beach, Fla., Myrtle Younts of Lexington; brother, Colon Smith of Asheboro; two grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

RALEIGH - Marta Morgan Barham, 89, of Springmoor Life Care Retirement Community in Raleigh, formerly of Red Springs, died Monday, July 5, 1999, at Stewart Health Center, Raleigh.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Red Springs, with Dr. Jo-Ann Oulton and the Rev. David McGougan officiating. Burial will be in Alloway Cemetery, Red Springs.

She was the widow of Waverly Barham, with whom she founded what is now Red Springs Funeral Home.

Surviving are daughter, Mary B. McNeill of Red Springs; brother, Bernice I. Morgan of Raleigh; three grandchildren; two great-granddaughters.

The family will be at the church one hour prior to the service.

SALEM, Mo. - Addie Mae Newell Elder, 74, of Salem, Mo., formerly of Vass, died Monday, July 5, 1999, in Salem.

Graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, at Yates-Thagard Baptist Church Cemetery, Whispering Pines, with the Rev. Steve Johnson officiating.

She was a native of Moore County and a retired registered nurse employed by the State of South Carolina.

Surviving are daughter, Sharon D. Willerding of Lexington, S.C.; sons, James C. Elder of Salem, Mo., John T. Elder of Lancaster, S.C., Michael D. Elder of Lexington, S.C.; four grandchildren.

Family will receive friends after the service.
