Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Marcus United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Don Burns officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Richmond County and a farmer.

Surviving are wife, Lillian Mattie King Hoover of the home; sons, Alvin Lee Hoover of Eagle Springs, John Daniel Hoover of Jackson Springs; brother, Bob Hoover of Mt. Gilead; sisters, Rachel Sneed of Albemarle, Mae Greene of Mt. Gilead, Josephine Luther of Ellerbe and Mary Frances Robinson of Archdale; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, Candor, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Alvin Hoover, Eagle Springs Road, Eagle Springs.

Annie H. Thompson
MT. GILEAD - Annie Mae Haywood Thompson, 90, died Saturday, July 31, 1999, at Brian Center, Winston-Salem.

Funeral service was 11 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Mt. Gilead. Burial was at Sharon Cemetery.

She was a native of Mt. Gilead and the widow of Carl J. Thompson Sr.

Surviving are son, Carl J. Thompson of Winston-Salem; daughter, Edith Annas of Kernersville; sisters, Ruth Charles of Greensboro, Lillian Beaver of High Point, Arlene Morris of Albemarle; one granddaughter; one great-grandson.

McKeithan Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, was in charge of arrangements.

Dan Kesler
Daniel Keith Kesler, 45, of 414 Sharon Ave., Asheboro, died Saturday, July 24, 1999, at Columbus County Hospital in Whiteville.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Central United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Christopher Thore and the Rev. Byron Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Asheboro, a 1971 graduate of Asheboro High School, a graduate of Wingate University and attended N.C. State University. He was employed at Energizer and was owner/operator of Carolina Pressure Wash.

Surviving are wife, Beth King Kesler; son, Bryant Kesler of the home; parents, Charles and Juanita Kesler of Asheboro; brother, Kerry Kesler of Asheboro.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-9 p.m. Thursday.

Dewey Lee Smith, 64, of GrayBrier Nursing and Retirement Center, Trinity, died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, at the center.

He was a native of Bladen County, the widower of Corina McPherson Smith and a self-employed retired tile installer.

Surviving are daughters, Desma Sanders of Star, Tammy Madden of Julian; sons, Dewey Lynn Smith of Nashville, Tenn., Ronald Smith of Liberty, Stephen Michael Smith of Pleasant Garden; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

MT. GILEAD - Eris Meacham Smith, 74, of 200 W. Ingram St., died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, at Rehabilitation Nursing Center of Monroe.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Sharon Cemetery, with the Rev. Chris Cadenhead officiating.

She was a native of Montgomery County and a retired employee of Delmar Studios of Charlotte.

Surviving are husband, Lindsey M. Smith of the home; daughter, Anita S. Cotton of Monroe; brothers, Poole Meacham of Asheboro, Jerry Meacham of Huntersville, Bruce Meacham of Mt. Gilead; sisters, Bonnaline Haithcock of Jamestown, Marcel Freeman of Mt. Gilead; two grandsons.

The family will be at McKeithan Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

She was a native of Davidson County, the widow of Charles Dewey Elliott, and had worked as a clerk with C.D. Elliott Grocery Store.

He was a native of Davidson County, a treasurer at his church for 22 years, a member of FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was retired from Carter Furniture Co.

Surviving are wife, Vancy Scott Hall of the home; brothers, Rayborn Hall of Asheboro, Herbert Hall of Mooresville, Paul Hall of Troy; sister, Mildred Davis of Troy; stepson, David Scott of Huntersville; four stepgrandchildren; one step-great-grandson.

BISCOE - Daniel Worth Deaton Sr., 87, of 405 Greg St., died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

Graveside service was 11 a.m. Tuesday at Biscoe Cemetery, with the Rev. Jimmy Shirlen officiating.

He was a native of Montgomery County and a retired service station attendant.

Surviving are wife, Lucille Deaton of the home; daughter, Opal Marie Wilson of Biscoe; son, Daniel W. Deaton Jr. of Mt. Gilead; three grandchildren.

Phillips Funeral Home, Star, is in charge of the arrangements.

EAGLE SPRINGS - Ollie Leaton Williams, 97, of 407 Alex Road, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brown's Chapel Christian Church, with the Rev. Donald Lewallen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County and a retired sawyer and farmer.

Surviving are wife, Macie Lewis Williams; daughter, Vera W. Hulin of High Point; sisters, Nettie W. Cole, Edna W. Morgan and Hazel W. Brown, all of Eagle Springs; brothers, Shelton Williams and John Williams, both of Eagle Springs; two grandsons.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home in Robbins 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Ethel H. Tucker
PEACHLAND - Ethel Hathcock Tucker, 76, of Peachland, died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, at Union Regional Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Freedom Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ronnie Helms and the Rev. Dwight Mabry officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Stanly County, the widow of L. Frank Tucker and a retired seamstress with Polkton Shirt Manufacturing.

Surviving are sons, Wayne Tucker of Mint Hill, Al Tucker of Asheboro; brother, Clell Hathcock of Stanfield; sisters, Edith Drake and Margie Drake, both of Stanfield, Ruby Drye of Mooresville; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Morgan & Son Funeral Home, Marshville, 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Violet Bulla Lassiter, 82, formerly of Asheboro, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, at University Park Nursing Home, Richmond, Va.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Oaklawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Bill Payne officiating.

She was a native of Asheboro, the widow of Thomas D. Lassiter, retired from Bost Neckwear and was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Carolyn Bratcher of Midlothian, Va.; two grandsons; one great-grandson.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 1-2:30 p.m. Friday.

FRANKLINVILLE - Arzie Eugene Burgess, 52, of 1976 N.C. 22 North, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Clearview Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Roland Hester and the Rev. John Harmon officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County and had been employed by Amick Sales and Service.

Surviving are wife, Marcelle Maness Burgess of the home; daughter, Sandra B. Brown of Ramseur; sons, Robert Burgess and Jonathan Dunn, both of Coleridge, Anthony Burgess of Seagrove; brothers, Randy Burgess of Level Cross, Billy Burgess of Asheboro; sisters, Frances Nance of Franklinville, Rachel Cox of Asheboro, Becky Sherron of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren.

CARTHAGE - Lura Parton Morton, 80, of Carthage, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, at Pinelake Rehabilitation Center.

She was the widow of Bob Morton and a retired employee of Carthage Fabrics Corp.

Morton of Greensboro; stepdaughter, Georgia Baldwin of Crewe, Va.; stepson, Billy Morton of Blackstone, Va.; sisters, Hazel Robinson of Jacksonville, Fla., Ruby Hall of Radford, Va.; five grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 12 stepgreat- grandchildren.

She was a native of Stokes County, a homemaker and a member of Amity Hills Baptist Church.

HIGH POINT - Charlie Edward Stone, 81, of 1921 Hickswood Road, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, with the Rev. John Osteen and the Rev. Frank Jarvis officiating. Burial will be at Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

He was a native of Rockingham County, a U.S. Navy veteran, a member of the First Church of God in Archdale, was employed with Carolina Upholstery as a plant manager and was retired from Marsh Armfield.

Surviving are wife, Minnie Killingsworth Stone of the home; son, Fred L. Stone of Crystal River, Fla.; daughter, Sondra Maness of Asheboro; brother, Lester T. Stone of High Point; sisters, Edna Jarvis and Helen Brady, both of High Point; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
