Della Fowler Spoolman, 92, of Mountain Vista Health Park, Denton, formerly of Asheboro, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, at Community General Hospital, Thomasville.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Troy Wilhelm and the Rev. Hal Varner officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Friends Meeting Cemetery.

She was a native of Davidson County, the widow of Rev. E.M. Fowler, a member of Southgate Baptist Church, Thomasville and retired from Ragan Knitting, Thomasville.

Surviving are sons, Phil Fowler of Randleman, Donald Fowler of Denton; brother, Charles James of Asheboro; sisters, Virginia Hedrick and Chappell Murphy, both of Thomasville; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday.

Lillian C. Wright
Lillian Cox Wright, 83, of 348 Oak View Lane, Asheboro, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 1999, at Asheboro Health and Rehabilitation.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Tim Strider officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Alto Wright, a member of Clearview Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughter, Susan Gail Hanner of Asheboro; three grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

Eunice S. Walker
ARCHDALE - Eunice Spencer Walker, 82, of 7982 U.S. 311, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Glenola Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Doug Davis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Shelburne A. Walker and a retired homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Annie Lucas and Faye Gaines, both of Sophia, Marie Stalker of Currie; son, Shelburne Arnold Walker Jr. of Archdale; sisters, Ina Cox of Asheboro, Angela Steed of Randleman; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Sechrest Funeral Home, Archdale, 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of Annie Lucas, 4299 Craven Pines Road, Sophia.

James B. Russell
FRANKLINVILLE - James Bernard Russell, 85, of 2487 N.C. 22 North, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, at Wesley Long Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Franklinville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert E. Dowling officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Stanly County, employed as an engineer with Burlington Industries, a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran and a member of the Jaycees.

Surviving are wife, Leah Burrows Russell of the home; son, Max Bernard Russell of Franklinville; brother, J.K. Russell of Albemarle; sisters, Rhoda Calloway of Statesville, Jean Whitley of Aquadale.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

William B. Johnson
SILER CITY - William Burley Johnson, 93, of 1073 Johnny Lindley Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Plainfield Friends Meeting, Siler City, where he was a charter member, with Pastor Ken Thames, Pastor Lee Lane and Associate Pastor Pat Thames officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, a retired carpenter with Hadley-Peoples Manufacturing Co. in Siler City and a farmer.

Surviving are sons, James N. Johnson of Sanford, Thomas Calvin Johnson of Siler City, William E. Johnson of Belews Creek, Charlie Johnson of Cary, Johnny R. Johnson of Wilmington; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

SILER CITY - Jerry B. Wood Jr., 89, of 10 Country Club Drive, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Joe Casteel and the Rev. Travis Owen officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

He was a native of Mecklenburg County, a graduate of Oak Ridge Military Academy in Oak Ridge, attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, was a U.S. Army veteran of Korea and a meat inspector. He was owner/operator of Chatham Foods, founder/chairman of Brookwood Farms, co-founder/president of Hickory Mountain Farms, and co-founder of Wood's Meat Processing. He was a former member and Paul Harris Fellow of Siler City Rotary Club, past president of Siler City Jaycees, past president of Siler City Country Club, past president of Chatham Hospital Board and member of Siler City Lodge 403 AF&AM.

Surviving are wife, Louise Brooks "Sis" Wood of Siler City; son, Jerry B. "Twig" Wood III and Craig B. Wood, both of Siler City; daughter, Frankie W. Tate of Siler City; sister, Patsy Hancock of Siler City; five grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 7-9 p.m. Friday.

She was a native of Moore County and a homemaker.

Monroe Roy Draughn, 81, of 2444 Old Farmer Road, Asheboro, died Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, at his home.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Monday at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tim Roberts and the Rev. Janice Combs officiating. Burial will be in West Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Surry County, an Army veteran of World War II, and founder of and retired from Superior Body Shop Inc.

Surviving are wife, Ola Miller Draughn of the home; daughter, Lois Draughn Moody of Asheboro; son, Richard M. Draughn of Asheboro; sisters, Mildred Chedester of Charlotte, Mary Bett Raybon of Benson and Bessie Holder of Lexington; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Sunday and other times at the home.

Luther Ray "Pete" Wilson Sr., 58, of 3553 Stutts Road, Asheboro, died Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Bailey's Grove Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Jonathan W. Shook officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County.

Surviving are daughter, Annette Linebury of Asheboro; sons, Roger Wilson of Asheboro and Luther Wilson Jr. of Salisbury; sisters, Maxine Hamlet and Lorene Holt, both of Franklinville, and Josephine McPherson, Jeweldean Russell, Illa Hunt and Bobbie Pierce, all of Asheboro; brothers, Thomas J. Wilson of Asheboro, Charlie Leroy Wilson of Ramseur and Burnice D. Wilson of Denton; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. Sunday and other times at the home of Roger Wilson, 446 Friendly Acres Road, Asheboro.

MT. GILEAD - Betty Blanch Bowden, 92, of Route 3, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999, at Evans Rest Home in Mt. Gilead.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Thomas Chapel Baptist Church, where she was a member and co-founder. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Church Cemetery.

The family will be at the home of a niece, Hulia Baldwin, N.C. 109 South, Mt. Gilead.

E. Julian Cagle
ROBBINS - E. Julian Cagle, 79, of 200 Jasper Road, died Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Smyrna United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joe Forbes and the Rev. D.L. Hussey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County and a farmer.

Surviving are sisters, Sarah Elizabeth Cagle and Mary Jane Humble, both of the home, and Martha C. Callicutt of Troy.

Lula S. Gladieux
TROY - Lula Ruth Smith Gladieux, 69, of 104-D Wesleyan Homes, died Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, at her residence.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

She was a native of Montgomery County, a member of New Covenant Church and a retired chef.

Surviving are son, John T. Gladieux of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; brother, Paul W. Smith of Troy; one granddaughter.

ARCHDALE - Kenneth Michael Greenwood, 45, of 4984 Ridge View Road, died Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, at his home.

He was a native of Columbus County and employed with Future Foam in High Point.

Surviving are sisters, Patricia Ann Greenwood, Henrietta Fowler and Frances Greenwood, all of High Point, and Margaret Ann Marsh of Asheboro; brother, Roger Dale Greenwood of Leland.

TROY - Jimmie Watson Hamilton Sr., 60, of 103-D Wesleyan Apartments, died Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, at his residence.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church and retired from the furniture industry.

Surviving are son, Jimmie W. Hamilton Jr. of Asheboro; daughter, Sonya H. Goins of Asheboro; sisters, Loretta H. Morris, Pauline Hamilton, Elgie H. Birckhead and Jean H. Ritter, all of Troy, and Clarice H. Saunders of Chesapeake, Va.; brothers, Larry Hamilton of Biscoe and Mike Hamilton of Denton; four grandchildren.

MT. GILEAD - Marcus Alexander Jones, 34, of N.C. 109 South, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 1999.

Funeral service will be noon Sunday at Prayer Praise Cathedral of Deliverance in West End, where he was a member.

He was a native of Kansas City, Mo.

Surviving are mother, Betty Jones of the home; son, Brandon Jones of the home; daughters, Marquita Jones and Shanita Jones, both of Denver, Colo.; brothers, Aaron Jones of Charlotte, Anthony Jones of Kansas City, Mo., Minister Alphonso Jones of Ellerbe, and Elder Alonzo Jones and Adrain Jones, both of Hamlet; sister, Angela Jones of Raleigh.

He was a native of Montgomery County and retired from Springs Industries.

She was a homemaker, of the Baptist faith, and the widow of J.C. "Jake" Murphy.

Surviving are son, Charles E. Murphy of Asheboro; sisters, Virgie Brinson and Ruth Garrett, both of Thomasville; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Agnes Luther Goss, 76, of 557 E. Dorsett Ave., Asheboro, died Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. John T. Byerly officiating. Burial will be in Flag Springs UMC Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and a homemaker.

Surviving are sons, Norman T. Goss of Asheboro, Danny Lee Goss of Coleridge; daughter, Linda Susan Jester of Cedar Falls; brother, Norman Clyde Luther of Ramseur; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Mack Lee Greene, 65, of 1608 Burney Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, at Appleton Medical Center, Appleton, Wis.

He was a native of Randolph County, a deacon at his church, retired from Eveready Battery and was a veteran of the U.S. Army reserve.

Surviving are wife, Carrie Chriscoe Greene of the home; daughters, Kathy G. Brown of Liberty, Sharon G. Gretzinger of Leopolis, Wis., Benita G. Macon of Asheboro, Joan F. Greene of Seagrove; son, Douglas L. Greene of Asheboro; sisters, Amanda Pickett and Faie Dunn, both of Asheboro; brother, Bud Greene of Asheboro; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

RANDLEMAN - Ronald Glenn McMeen, 51, of 3691 Benny Lineberry Road, Climax, died Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

He was a native of Coco Solo Canal Zone and employed with Lineberry, Inc.

GREENSBORO - John Macon Cline, 73, of 3410 Wilshire Drive, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Irving Park Methodist Church, Greensboro.

He was a native of Newton, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, attended Brevard College, graduated from Lenior Rhyne College and was associated with Fleet Plummer Hardware for over 30 years.

Surviving are wife, Jane W. Cline; daughter, Jan Cline of Greensboro; sister, Isabel Morrison of Newton.

The family will be at the church immediately following the service.

Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Raleigh, is in charge of the arrangements.
