Funeral service was 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church of Mt. Gilead, where she was a member, with the Rev. Jim Harris officiating, Burial was in Sharon Cemetery.
She was a native of Lee County, the widow of J. Avery Ausley and a graduate of Pineland College.
Surviving is daughter, Josephine Snipes of Florence, S.C.

DENTON - Rev. Vernon Adam Morton, 92, of 729 Uwharrie Point, New London, died Friday, Sept. 17, 1999, at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Uwharrie United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Glen Hancock and the Rev. Derald Smith officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Montgomery County, the widower of Jennie Raye Floyd Morton, and a graduate of Rutherford College, High Point College and Duke Divinity School. He was ordained as a minister in 1929, was a member of the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church, a Methodist pastor and was a volunteer at Chandler's Grove United Methodist Church in the Badin Lake area.
Surviving are son, Bruce Morton of Fancy Gap, Va.; daughter, Romona Clapp of Kernersville; brothers, J. T. Morton of Thomasville, Alfred Morton of Ft. Gaines, Ga.; sister, Minnie Whitley of Albemarle; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

She was a native of Montgomery County, a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and retired from Smitherman Cotton Mill.

She was a native of Richmond, Va., the widow of Raleigh Thigpen Sr. and was honored as mother of the church where she was also a Sunday School teacher, president of the Sunshine Band, past member of the Usher Board, and past president of the Missionary Circle. She had been employed for 50 years with the T. L. Laughlin family.
Surviving are son, Raleigh Thigpen Jr. of Cedar Square; daughter, Faye T. Steed of Cedar Square; brothers, Roosevelt Johnson of Wildwood, N. J., Rev. MT. GILEAD - Derek Leroy Parnell, 22, of 5203 Woodrun, Lake Tillery, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, from injuries he received in a motorcycle accident in Stanly County.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wadeville Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Gerald Lanier officiating, Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Stanly County, a 1995 graduate of West Montgomery High School and employed with Jordan Lumber Company of Mt. Gilead.
Surviving are parents, Edgar and Ruby Parnell of the home; sister, Casey P. Sedberry of Troy; grandparents, Elgie Parnell of Mt. Gilead, Wayne and Martha Morton of Troy.

Dr. Perry F. Harris
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Perry Felton Harris, DDS, MD, 69, of Nashville, Tenn. and formerly of Carthage, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, at his home.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, near Carthage, with the Rev. Ernest L. Johnson officiating. Burial will be with full military graveside rites in the Harris Family Cemetery at Harris' Crossroads.
He was a 1947 graduate of West End High School, a 1949 honors graduate of Campbell College where he was elected to the Epsilon Pi Eta honor society. In the fall of 1949 he earned his B.S. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he earned both his undergraduate degree in 1951, DDS in 1955 and an MS degree in pathology and anatomy and was also a 1962 graduate of the University of Tennessee School of Medicine. He was an intern at St. Thomas Hospital, a surgical resident at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., chief resident in Otolaryngology at Vanderbilt University, where he was later on the faculty and was a resident in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Kentucky and earned his Board Certification in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery upon returning to private practice in Nashville. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, in the National Guard and Reserves, was the commander of the 118th TAC Hospital and was State Air Surgeon. He was certified by the American Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology, was a member of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Departments of Centennial, Vanderbilt and Metro General Hospitals and was current chief of Plastic Surgery Department at Baptist Hospital. He held appointments as Associate Professor in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Meharry Medical College, Vanderbilt University and Veterans Administration Hospitals. He was member of the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the American Medical Association, Nashville Academy of Surgeons, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Society of Head & Neck Surgery, Davidson County Medical Association and a member of the University Club at Vanderbilt. He was a founder of the Grand Master Fiddle Championship.
Surviving are wife, Sherrie Harris; daughters, Beth McNeely of Nashville, Tenn., Lynda Todd of Atlanta, Ga., Amy Harris-Tokuno of Yuba City, Calif.; sons, Howard Harris and Will Harris, both of Nashville, Tenn.; brothers, Howard Harris of Carthage, Flynn Harris of Baltimore, Md.; 12 grandchildren.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Grady Lee Hughes, a church secretary, Sunday School Teacher and on the Board and Missionary Society at her church. She held offices in War Mother and Dogwood Garden Club, was employed at McCrary Hosiery until she started Asheboro Florist, and she raised dogs.
Surviving are daughter, Bertha H. Wrenn of Lady Lake, Fla.; son, Bernard F. Hughes of Dania, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

She was a leader in the Girl and Boy Scouts of America and a member of the American Association of University Women, the League of Women Voters, the Emory Woman's Club, the Emory Sewing Club, the Vanderbilt University Woman's Club and the Vanderbilt University Medical Center Auxiliary. She was the widow of Dr. Wayland J. Hayes Jr.
Surviving are children, Marie Royce Hayes of Fairfield, Conn., Maryette Hayes Hacskaylo of Asheboro, Lula Turner Hayes of Hudson, Ohio, Dr. Wayland Jackson Hayes III of Memphis, Tenn., and Roche del Hayes Moser of Cary; brother, Royce Donkle of Long Beach, Calif.; 10 grandchildren.
