She was a native of Montgomery County, a graduate of West Montgomery High School and an employee of Capel Mills.
Surviving are mother, Ethel Haywood of the home; brother, Billy Haywood of Mt. Gilead; sisters, Lois Tucker of Mt. Gilead, Leslie Saunders of Asheboro.

She was a native of Moore County, a member of the Pinehurst Business Guild, Sandhills Kiwanis, Sandhills Food Bank and FirstHealth of the Carolina Regional Services Board of Trustees and co-owner of Small World Travel of Pinehurst.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Joy Dark Ward, a member of First United Methodist Church and was retired from Stout Chair Company.

He was a native of Sweet Valley, Pa., graduate of Penn State University, president of Shiloh Enterprises Inc., past secretary of Mount Vernon Lodge #143 Masonic Temple, past president of the Chatham County Shrine Club and was of the Baptist faith.

MAYODAN - Kate Louise Baughn Layne, 90, of 204 W. Washington St. Ext., died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, at Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden.

She was a member of the James Hunter Chapter of the DAR, the Madison-Mayodan Grays VDC Chapter, Thomas Graves Chapter of the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, the Rockingham County Historical Society, the Rockingham County Naturalist Club and was the former owner and operator of Layne's Dress Shop in Mayodan.
Surviving are daughters, Linda Cardwell Vernon of Stoneville, Kathy L. Davis of Asheboro, Mickey Case Helms of Richmond, Va.; son, James "Bud" Layne of Bowling Green, Ky.; sister, India Baughn of Stokesdale; brother, Ray Baughn of Mayodan; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
