WELCOME - Robert Thomas "Tom" Wooten, 88, of Welcome, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at Lexington Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Road, Winston-Salem, with the Rev. James T. Webb officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorials Gardens, Winston-Salem.
He was a native of Richmond County, the widower of Carrie Mullinax Wooten and a retired textile supervisor.
Surviving are sons, Robert Wooten of Midway, John Wooten of Welcome, James Wooten of Clemmons, Wayne Wooten of Biscoe, Jerry Wooten of Trinity; daughters, Frances Horne of Tyro, Brenda Davis of Lexington, Thelma Norton of Massachusetts, Alice Callicult of Troy; 25 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren.
The family will be at their homes.

GRAYS CHAPEL - Georgia Lee Smith, 72, formerly of Grays Chapel, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, at Southeastern General Hospital, Lumberton.
Memorial graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Grays Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Franklinville, with the Rev. Bart W. Milleson officiating.
She was a native of Randolph County.
Surviving are sisters, Ruth Ellen Smith Wise of Archdale, Linda Davis Trantham of Randleman.
The family will be at the church immediately following the graveside service.

MEBANE - Bertha Mae Riggs, 98, of 4007 W. Wendover Ave., Greensboro, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, at The Evergreens Inc.
Funeral service was 2 p.m. Wednesday at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane, with the Rev. Luis F. Reinoso officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.
She was a native of Caswell County, a homemaker and a member of Mebane United Methodist Church.
Surviving are half sisters, Nancy Young of Asheboro, Mildred Brooks of Mebane, Helen Williamson of Haw River; half brother, Bobb Riggs of Hartsville, S.C.

Iris Spencer Robbins of 1028 Uwharrie St., Asheboro, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at West Bend United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. David Noyes officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.
She was a native of Randolph County and a homemaker.

He was a native of Randolph County, a retired farmer in which he received Century status, a technician with Stanley Bostich and was assigned with the Klaussner Furniture Industries group and was a charter member of the Methodist Men.
Surviving are wife, Alpha Carter Routh; sons, Tommy Jay Routh of Climax, Billy Joe Routh and Douglas L. Routh, both of Franklinville; daughters, Mary R. Lineberry, Alice R. Gnida and Ellen R. Cain, all of Franklinville; sister, Lauretta Thompson of Franklinville; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

MT. GILEAD - Frank Steele Sr. of 189 Edenboro Road died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at Mercy Hospital, Charlotte.
Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Thomasville Missionary Baptist Church, Mt. Gilead, where he was a member, with the Rev. Louis Blakney and the Rev. R.E. Blount officiating.
He was a native of Montgomery County, a graduate of Peabody High School, Troy, a former employee of Jordan Lumber Co. and was presently employed with the Montgomery Municipal ABC Board.
Surviving are wife, Della "Dale" Roper Steele of the home; sons, Frank Steele Jr. of Misenheimer, Ryan Kent Steele of the home; sisters, Hattie S. James and Pauline S. Mack, both of Greensboro, Mary S. Woods of Livingston, N.J.; brothers, Peter Steele and Lacy Steele Jr., both of Mt. Gilead.

CARTHAGE - J. Woodrow Branch Sr., 83, of Branch Road, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 1999.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, the Masons, a former manager of the Carthage Farmers Exchange and retired after 19 years with the Moore County Sheriff's Department.
Surviving are son, J.W. "Woody" Branch Jr. of Greensboro; three grandsons.

FUQUAY-VARINA - Robert Jennings Marley died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at Wake Medical Center, Raleigh.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Brownlee officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Knoll Cemetery, Ramseur.
He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, a 1950 graduate of High Point College and a 1956 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a master's degree. He was a teacher at Lemon Springs and Cary, worked for the State Department of Public Instruction for 42 years, retired from Chapter 1, formerly Compensatory Education Program, after 21 years, and was past president of the National Association of State Directors for Chapter 1. He taught the Wesleyan Class at Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church, was a president of the Fuquay-Varina Lion's Club and a former district governor and a Melvin Jones Fellow and twice a Jack Stickley honoree and was a former member of the Fuquay-Varina Little Theatre.
Surviving are wife, Sarah Lockwood Marley of Durham; sons, Robin (Robert Jr.) Marley of Cary; Mark Andrew Marley of Raleigh; three grandchildren.

She was a captain paramedic and registered nurse.

Phillip Bryon Callicutt, 57, of 1208 Bonita St., Asheboro, died Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, at his home.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Barry Wall officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Friends Meeting Cemetery.
He was a native of Randolph County, a 1961 graduate of Farmer High School, retired as personnel director from Jockey International after 21 years, was active in the Asheboro-Randolph Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the N.C. Association of Personnel Directors.
Surviving are daughter, Crys Roeder of Cornelius; father, Bruce Calicutt of Asheboro; brother, Tim N. Callicutt of Asheboro; one grandson.

He was a native of Maryland, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a missionary in Panama and was presiding overseer for both English and Spanish congregations of the Jehovah's Witnesses for over 20 years.
Surviving are wife, Joyce Richards of the home; son, Michael Richards of Sophia; three sisters; four brothers.

She was a native of Pamlico County, the widow of Charles Walter Garrett and attended Whitsett Institute in Guilford County. She was a teacher in Eastern North Carolina, a homemaker and formerly of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Surviving are daughter, Celia Clapp of Liberty; sons, Gene Garrett and Dan Garrett, both of Liberty; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Raleigh and the widow of Chester Richard Boyd Sr. and Gurney Earl Hayes. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Junior College and Meredith College where she majored in piano, was a piano teacher, an organist at Longview Methodist Church and organist and choir director at St. Mark's Methodist Church. She was a past president of the Raleigh Piano Teachers, in the Raleigh Piano Ensemble and sang with the St. Cecelia Choral Group and Raleigh Music Club. She was a needlework instructor at Pullen Park, past president of the Methodist Women, Bible class teacher and chairman of the board of trustees at her church. She was a vice president of the Raleigh Board of Missions, president of the Thompson Elementary School PTA, treasurer at Morson High School and was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Pettigrew Chapter and a registrar of polls.
Surviving are sons, Chester Richard Boyd Jr. of Asheboro, Allan Craig Boyd Sr. of Raleigh; daughters, Judy B. Currie of Red Springs, Patricia B. Sutton of Cary; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
