Vernie Poplin Lee, 83, of Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home, formerly of 717 E. View Drive, Asheboro, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. George McDowell officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Stanly County, the widow of W.B. Lee and was retired from Bossong Hosiery.

Surviving are sisters, Joyce Lineberry and Faye McIntyre, both of Asheboro, Florence Underwood, Ruby Smith, Bobbie Smith, and Elsie Burris, all of Albemarle, Hazeline Herrin of Charlotte, Delores Underwood of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; brother, Ray Poplin of Marshville.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

Buddy Matthews
Gladis Hurley "Buddy" Matthews, 81, of 406 Glovinia St., Asheboro, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Barney Trogdon officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Maybell Matthews, was retired from Ridge Funeral Home after 55 years and was the last living member of the Grand United Odd Fellows Lodge of Asheboro.

Surviving are daughter, Dianne M. Brown of Asheboro; son, Wilbert Matthews of Sedalia; brother, Joe Matthews of Asheboro; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

Billy F. Wade
Billy Franklin Wade, 39, of 1212 S. Fayetteville St., Asheboro, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at his home.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oaklawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Jeff Stapelton officiating.

He was a native of Sarasota, Fla.

Surviving are foster father, Kenneth W. Yancey of Wauchula, Fla.; brothers, James E. Wade of Asheboro, Michael T. Evans of Bradenton, Fla.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, noon-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Wade, 588 Hillary Court, Asheboro.

Webster L. Whitlow
HIGH POINT - Webster Lloyd Whitlow, 90, formerly of 1011 Asheboro St., died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at Westwood Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at High Point Friends Meeting, where he was a member, with the Rev. David W. Kingrey, the Rev. Randall A. Quate, the Rev. Benjamin A. Hurley, and Rev. Victor Murchison officiating. Burial will be in Springfield Friends Meeting Cemetery.

He was a native of High Point, the widower of Kathleen Hicks Whitlow, a retired employee of Amos Hosiery Mill Inc. and a member of the Brotherhood Class and the Junior Order United American Mechanics. He was formerly active with the Boys Club, United Way and American Children's Home of Lexington.

Surviving are daughters, Wanda Hinshaw and Anita Turner, both of High Point, Doris Riehs of Archdale, Patsy Wilson of Asheboro, Phyllis Cockman of Randleman; 27 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, is in charge of the arrangements.

Margaret S. Cook
BEAR CREEK - Margaret Shaw Cook, 71, of 11444 N.C. 902, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Meroney United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Paul Edwards and the Rev. Warren Owen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Davidson County and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughter, Vickie Johnson of Bear Creek; sisters, Louise Dark, Brenda Hudson and Linda Hudson, all of Siler City, Ethel Minton of Bear Creek, Mary Causey of Asheboro; brothers, Henry Shaw of Goldston, Marvin Shaw of Bear Creek; two granddaughters.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

STAR - Taylor James, 69, of 321 Nichols Drive, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Grace Memorial Baptist Church, with Dr. Vernon McDaniel and the Rev. Lonnie Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Dover Baptist Church Cemetery, Seagrove.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a U. S. Army veteran and retired from Collins & Aikman.

Surviving are wife, Evelyn Kimrey James of the home; daughters, Linda Maness of Robbins, Connie Vos of Washington, D.C.; sons, Richard James of Star, John James of Goldsboro, Shaun James of the home; sister, Addie Thompson of Winston-Salem; brothers, Otha James and Clayton James, both of Star, Marion James of Pine Hall, Robert James of Ether, Bailey James of High Point; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

MT. GILEAD - James Franklin Ingram, 96, of Mt. Gilead, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at Autumn Care, Biscoe.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jim Harris officiating. Burial will be in Sharon Cemetery.

He was retired after 60 years with Ingram-McAuley Hardware Store and Funeral Home, the widower of Hattie Carter Ingram, was a charter member of Mt. Gilead Civitan Club and served on the Mt. Gilead Town Board and Montgomery County Board of Education.

Surviving are daughter, Ann I. Kirk of Mt. Gilead; sons, James Edgar "Buck" Ingram of Mt. Gilead, John Carter Ingram of Greensboro; sister, Mary Anna Covington of Rockingham; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at McKeithan Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, 6-8 p.m. Sunday.

CARTHAGE - W. David Bibey, 75, of 541 Heritage Farm Road, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Holly Grove Primitive Baptist Church, with the Rev. Darrell Garner and Evangelist David Bibey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County and a farmer.

Surviving are stepdaughter, Corina K. Zimmerman of Carthage; stepson, Benjamin Kiser of Surfside Beach, S.C.; half sister, Annie Bibey of Carthage; half brothers, Johnny Bibey of Florida, Thurman Bibey of Carthage, Colonel Bibey of Vass; 12 stepgrandchildren; 18 stepgreat-grandchildren.

John R. Seabolt Jr.
John Randolph Seabolt Jr., 71, of 2134 Garrentown Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Dr. Ron Hamilton and the Rev. Alvin Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Halifax County, a retired body shop foreman at Asheboro Motor Co. and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are daughters, Kay Turner, Judy Saunders, Janet Pierce, all of Asheboro, Patsy Dombrowski of Farmer; son, Don Seabolt of Asheboro; sisters, Louis Snider of Denton, Hazel Frye, Mildred Cromer, Doris Hoover, all of Asheboro; brothers, Clyde Seabolt, Clarence Seabolt, Reid Seabolt, all of Asheboro; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Judy Saunders, 2120 Garrentown Road, Asheboro.

RANDLEMAN - Swannie Burns Bischer, 91, of 400 Vision Drive, Asheboro, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation for Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at New Salem United Methodist Church, Randleman, where she was a member, with the Rev. Michael Swofford and the Rev. Keith Bischer officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County and the widow of Clarence Bischer.

Surviving are sons, Robert Bischer of Randleman, J.C. Bischer of Asheboro; daughter, Etta Mae B. Davis of Rancho Cucamouga, Calif.; sisters, Christine Brown of Robbins, Minnie Williams of Eagle Springs; brother, Junior Burns of Robbins; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

RANDLEMAN - Edna Allen Jones, 94, of 400 Vision Drive, Asheboro, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cool Springs Cemetery, Cool Springs, with the Rev. Vernon McDaniel officiating.

She was a native of Sanford and a homemaker.

Surviving are sons, James Goins of Randleman, Johnny Goins of Sanford; daughter, Madeline Blakley of Pinehurst; brother, Brittan Allen of Ramseur; sister, Margie Buccanan of Sanford; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the home of son, James Goins, 748 Worthville St., Randleman.

Frances M. Sullivan
CARTHAGE - Frances Moore Sullivan, 67, of Carthage, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Carthage United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Terry Huffines officiating. Burial will be in Cross Hill Cemetery.

She was a retired bookkeeper.

Surviving are husband, J. Robert Sullivan Jr.; daughter, Harriett S. Riley of Siler City; sister, Billie M. Mackey of Carthage; two stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was a native of Randolph County and the widow of Lacy Johnson.

Surviving are sons, Lacy Vernon Johnson of Cameron, Roland Hussey of Robbins; daughters, Helen Johnson Barker of Carthage, Annie Ruth Johnson Barker of Cameron, Lillian Johnson Dunn of Robbins; brothers, Lewis Hussey and James Hussey, both of Seagrove, Marvin Hussey of Holden Beach; sisters, Annie Mae Allison of Seagrove, Marie Garner of Robbins, Lula Cox of Harpers Cross Roads; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

She was a native of Liberty, a member of New Salem United Methodist Church and was the secretary and treasurer of Heath Amusements.

Surviving are husband, Worth Heath of Randleman; daughter, Sherry Hayes of Randleman; two granddaughters; one great-grandson.

TRINITY - Jessie Cunningham Evans, 89, of GrayBrier Nursing & Retirement Center, formerly of 5419 Tobacco Road, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Harris Jr. and the Rev. William T. Hill officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, attended Randleman public schools and was a member of First Baptist Church of Trinity.

Surviving are husband, Robert Baxter Evans of Trinity; sons, O'Neal Evans of Danville, Va., Ashley Evans of the home, Ronald Evans of High Point, Harold Evans of Jamestown; daughters, Treva Oglesby of Asheville, Eva Evans and Margaret Naomi Wilson, both of Kernersville, Ethel Evans of Winston-Salem; sister, Ella Mae Cunningham of Washington, D.C.; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Haizlip Funeral Home, High Point, 7-8 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Evans, 1712 Chatfield Drive, Jamestown.

PLEASANT GARDEN - Carolyn White Horne, 79, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Britthaven of Guilford.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gilmore Memorial Park in Julian, with the Rev. Mark Andrews officiating.

She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and a retired teacher from the Guilford County Schools system after 38 years.

Surviving are sons, L. Wright Horne III of Richmond, Va., Jack W. Horne of Kernersville, Joe R. Horne of Ramseur; five grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

He was a native of Richmond County, a member of Big Oak Church of God and a retired fork lift operator with Troy Lumber Co.

Surviving are wife, Betty Saunders Smith of the home; daughter, Beth King of Candor; stepdaughters, Wanda Singleton, Pat Odom, Bonnie Singleton, all of Star, Lynn Graham of Gaffney, S.C.; stepson, Jimmy Tucker of Ellerbe; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

Mary M. Brewer
MT. GILEAD - Mary McRae Brewer, of 150 Fairway Shores Road, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at Presbyterian Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wadeville Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Byrd officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County and the retired owner of Brewer Shoe Store.

Surviving are brothers, Jaybird McRae and Shorty McRae, both of Mt. Gilead; sisters, Fannie Madaris and Jackie Byrd, both of Wingate, Sarah Diminick of Myrtle Beach, S.C.
