RANDLEMAN - Charles Ross Brown, 69, of 2707 Forest Drive, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Gray's Chapel United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Bart W. Milleson and Wade Craven officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors.

He was a native of Randleman, Korean War U.S. Army veteran and a retired employee of J.P. Stevens, Randleman and Dominion Yarn, Burlington.

Surviving are wife, Ida Lineberry Brown of Randleman; son, Greg R. Brown of Randleman; daughter, Lisa B. Wright of Ramseur; brothers, J.M. Brown, Bill G. Brown, both of Randleman; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Naomi Q. Bethune

RANDLEMAN - Naomi "Pat" Bethune, 84, of 313 Dogwood Drive, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Salem United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Michael Swofford officiating. A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Richmond Memorial Park, Rockingham.

She was the widow of William Franklin Bethune.

Surviving are daughters, Joyce Campbell of Randleman, Ann Siler of Greensboro, Janice B. Huffman of Winston-Salem; son, William Edward Bethune of Charlotte; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

George D. Shelton

SOPHIA - George David Shelton, 83, formerly of Sophia, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman. Burial with military honors will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Stuart, Va., retired farmer, World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of Sophia Baptist Church.

Surviving are stepdaughter, Teresa Haithcock of Sophia; stepsons, Arthur Dale Loflin, Ricky Loflin, Terry Loflin, all of Sophia; five stepgrandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Mildred H. McAlister

RAMSEUR - Mildred Hinshaw McAlister, 78, of Rose Tara Plantation, King, formerly of Ramseur, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital, Winston-Salem.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur.

James R. Baker

GREENSBORO - James Roy Baker, 82, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at his home.

A service of remembrance will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gate City Baptist Church, where he was a member. Inurnment will be in Guilford Memorial Park.

He was a native of Georgia, member of Greensboro Exchange Club and retired owner/operator of Baker Shoe Repair.

Surviving are wife, Julia Sherrill Baker of the home; sons, Wayne Baker of Rehobeth Beach, Del., James Ron Baker of Seagrove, Roger Lee Baker of Mayodan; brother, Cleo Thompson of Lexington; half sister, Shellie Mae Sawyer of Trinity; half brother, Elton Baker of Douglas, Ga.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, Vanstory Street, Greensboro, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

SILER CITY - Jarushia Harris Teague, 90, of 40 Ed Clapp Road, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rocky River Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Greg Burriss officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, retired from A.J. Schneierson Company, homemaker, secretary of Loyalty and Light Bearers Sunday School class and member of Young at Heart Group at her church.

Surviving are daughters, Catherine W. Buckner of Siler City, Edna Perry Hart of Greensboro, Dora Beane of Concord; sons, Fred J. Culberson of Graham, John D. Culberson, A.P. Culberson, both of Siler City; sisters, Josie Culberson, Ava Williams, both of Siler City; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Catherine Buckner, 1387 Pearleman Teague Road, Siler City.

MT. GILEAD - Maurine Frix Haywood, 77, of 931 N.C. 109 South, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at Mercy Hospital.

Surviving are son, Lester Haywood of Mt. Gilead; daughters, Leona Hancock of Troy, Linda Casteen of Mt. Gilead; brothers, Alvin Frix, Charles Frix, both of Mt. Gilead; sister, Dorothy Sparks of Mt. Gilead; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

Elsie S. Franklin

CARTHAGE - Elsie Stone Franklin, 71, of Shady Grove Road, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Culdee Presbyterian Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Joe Peters officiating.

She was a native of Cullman, Ala. and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Herbert L. Franklin; daughters, Jo Ann Wicker of Carthage, Gilda Faye Little, Carol Edgil, both of Birmingham, Ala.; sons, Bertis Edgil of Philadelphia, Pa., Junior Ray Edgil of Birmingham, Ala.; sisters, Lorene Guthrie, Earlene Day, Eline Pugh, all of Bremmen, Ala.; brother, Lawrence Stone of Bremmen, Ala.; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry-Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Mollie R. Brower
Mollie Richardson Brower, 80, of Mountain View Care Center, Asheboro, died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at her residence.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Brown's Chapel Christian Church in Robbins with the Rev. Hayes Ritter and Rev. Danny Hosler officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Richmond County, a member of Provident Christian Church and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Ann Hurley of Greensboro and Ruth Cheek of Asheboro; sons, Henry B. Moore of Stanfield, Wilbur Moore of Rockingham and Paul Moore of High Falls; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.

Kennedy Funeral Home in Robbins is in charge of arrangements.

Basil P. Stillwell

Basil Peatross Stillwell, 76, of 63 Forest Brook Circle, Asheboro, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Cumby Mortuary Archdale Chapel with the Rev. Keith Peters officiating.

She was a native of Rockingham County, retired after 20 years as a nurse's assistant at High Point Regional Hospital, and the widow of John Robert Stillwell.

Surviving are daughter, Tammy Langley of the home; one grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday and other times at the residence.

Yvonne Gallimore

DENTON - Yvonne Burleson Gallimore, 60, of 155 Eastwood Drive, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Lamb and Rev. Chris Smith officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

She was a native of McDowell County, employed with Bill's Hosiery Mill and the widow of Carlton "Weesie" Gallimore.

Surviving are sons, Leslie "Punkin" Gallimore and Dennis Gallimore, both of Denton; daughter, Gay G. Markham of Asheboro; brothers, Guy Burleson and Gene O'Dear, both of Marion, and Bobby O'Dear of Walnut Cove; sister, Brenda David of Nebo; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Bobby J. Lax

STAR - Bobby Jarrell Lax, 61, of 238 Latham Lane, died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at First Health Montgomery Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Shady Grove Christian Church with the Rev. Tracy Ritter officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a retired auto mechanic, and a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Betty Burroughs Lax of Star; daughters, Barbara Maness and Crystal Lax, both of Asheboro, and Teresa Chriscoe and Wanda McNeill, both of Seagrove; sisters, Darcus Prevatt of Haw River, Alice Corneilison of Asheboro, Brenda Luther of Mt. Gilead, and Joan Diaz of Candor; brother, Mitchell Lax of Virginia; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Ray H. Lineberry

FRANKLINVILLE - Ray Herman Lineberry, 65, of 338 Pleasant Ridge Road, died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Grays Chapel United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Bart Milleson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a truck driver and a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Surviving are son, Chris F. Lineberry of California; daughters, Tonya L. Rich of Seagrove and Tammy L. Farr of Franklinville; sisters, Delores L. Routh and Mona L. McElhannon, both of Climax, and Brenda L. Patterson of Greensboro; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home in Ramseur 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

RAMSEUR - Lawrence Lacy "Giant" Kivett, 87, formerly of Ramseur, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, at Brian Center Health & Rehabilitation, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Wayne Hoogkamp and Dr. Gary Gibson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Knoll Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Dorothy Mae Cox and was retired from Randolph Mills.

Surviving are sons, Clyde Kivett of Southmont, Donald Kivett of Eden; daughter, Norma Kivett Callahan of Seagrove; brother, Taft Kivett of Ramseur; sisters, Thyra Marley of Ramseur, Shirley Jones of Randleman; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of the daughter, 543 Burney Road, Seagrove.

CANDOR - Walton McCaskill Chappell, 76, of Baaseiah Family Care Center and formerly of N.C. 211 East, Candor, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at the center.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sardis United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Edsel Huffstetler officiating.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a member of Candor Presbyterian Church, a former member and secretary of Candor Lions Club, a retired licensed funeral director at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home for over 30 years and was president of Sand-Clay Mutual Burial Association.

Surviving are daughter, Catherine Nations of Gastonia; sons, Walton M. Chappell Jr. of Fort Mill, S.C., Paul Chappell of Cochran, Ga., Henry Chappell of Candor; brother, William Chappell of Beaufort; sister, Elizabeth Morgan of Hampton, Va.; two grandchildren.

He was a native of Montgomery County, of the Baptist faith and was formerly a truck driver.

Surviving are wife, Lynda Sawyer Freeman of the home; daughters, Sandy Bramblett, Shelly Edwards, Chris Hearne, all of Candor; mother, Annie Freeman of Candor; brother, Richard Freeman of Candor; sisters, Darlene Jessup of Candor, Dixie Williams of Star; five grandchildren.
