CEDAR FALLS - James Forrest Thorpe Jr., 62, of 3785 Old Cedar Falls Road, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Justus McKeel and the Rev. Jaqueline Elliott officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Falls United Methodist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a 1956 graduate of Franklinville High School, a graduate of Nashville Auto Diesel School, a U.S. Army veteran, employed with Versatile Sharpening Services and was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving are wife, Evelyn Poindexter Thorpe of the home; son, James Forrest "Jay" Thorpe of Randleman; parents, James Sr. and Jessie Thorpe of Cedar Falls; sister, Sue Allred of Asheboro; one grandson.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

Hollis W. Craven
RAMSEUR - Hollis Wrenn Craven, 72, of 159 Elizabeth St., died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Ramseur Wesleyan Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Roland Cavanaugh and the Rev. Bob Wallace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a retired salesman with Durham Life Insurance, a retired member of the Ramseur Fire Department and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Nancy Stanley Craven of the home; daughters, Jeanne Cox of Ramseur, Susan Cord of High Point, Rhonda Atkinson of Franklinville; brothers, Dempsey Craven and Garrett Craven, both of Asheboro; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

RANDLEMAN - Della Stilley Pierce, 64, of 4562 Old Walker Mill Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Level Cross Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Jerry Mills officiating.

She was retired from Deep River Dye and a 1954 graduate of Randleman High School.

Surviving are husband, Harvey Pierce of the home; daughters, Becky Johnston of the home, Tammy Montgomery of Asheboro, Judy Collins of Randleman, Nancy Johnson of Trinity; son, Jimmy Pierce of Level Cross; brothers, James Stilley of Thomasville, Ralph Stilley of Trinity, Carlos Stilley of Arizona; seven grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Judy Collins, 355 Two Pond Drive, Randleman.

He was a native of Davie County and employed at Klaussner Furniture, Asheboro.

Surviving are wife, Nellie Wooten of Randleman; daughter, Patricia Coleman of Asheboro; son, Billy Wooten of Pleasant Garden; brothers, Dwight Wooten, James Wooten and John Wooten, all of Mocksville; sister, Martha Ward of Yadkinville; two grandchildren.

DENTON - H. Fred Garner, 72, of 1365 Shaver Road, Richfield, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Graveside service will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Earl Cook officiating.

He was a native of Davidson County, employed with Bill's Hosiery Mills and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are wife, Dora Painter Garner of the home; sons, Jimmy Stokes Garner of Richfield, Robert Lee Garner of Asheville; daughter, Shirley Ann Lindsay of Salisbury; sister, Elsie Snider of High Point; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 2-3 p.m. Thursday.

Maggie M. Moss
ROBBINS - Maggie Ruth Maness Moss, 79, of 2703 NorthMoore Road, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, in Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Ray Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Pine Rest Cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, the widow of Irby E. Moss and a homemaker.

Surviving are sons, Farrell Moss of Easley, S.C., George Moss of Denver; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7- 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

William F. Tucker Jr.
MILFORD, Del. - William Frederick Tucker Jr., 18, of Milford, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at Bayhealth Medical Center, Milford Memorial Division, as a result of an automobile accident, Jan. 10.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Lighthouse Christian Center, Milford, where he was a member. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.

He was a native of Guorock, Scotland, a freshman at Delaware Technical and Community College, Owen Campus, Georgetown, where he was studying Business Administration. He was a 1999 graduate of the Lighthouse Christian Academy, Milford, where he was a mentor and a physical education teacher. He had attended Milford Baptist School where he was a member of the basketball and soccer teams, and had previously worked for Subway, Peebles Department Stores, Ace Hardware, Bob Evans Restaurant, MBNA in Dover and L.D. Caulk Company and was currently employed with Agil, Inc. in Milford as a computer software specialist

Surviving are parents, W. Fred and Deborah J. Tucker of Milford, Del.; brothers, Eric D. Evans of Thorndale, Pa., Christopher Frederick Tucker of Laurel, Md.; sisters, Carol Anne Tucker, Amanda Janel Evans, both of Milford, Rebecca Lynn Mullins, of Salisbury, Md., Sydney Marie Tucker of Windham, Conn.; grandparents, Bert and Mary Kyser of Asheboro, Mary Tucker Palmer of Columba, Conn.; stepgrandmother, Lillie P. "Winkle" Helmick of Milford.

The family will be at Lighthouse Christian Center, 6-8 p.m. Friday.

J. Wayne Cagle Sr.
John Wayne Cagle Sr., 79, of 3401 Wayne Road, Asheboro, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Union Grove United Church of Christ, where he was a member, with the Rev. Garry Reeder and the Rev. James Gibson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County and retired from the N.C. State Highway Department.

Surviving are sons, J. W. Cagle Jr. and Mark Cagle, both of Asheboro; daughters, Patricia York, Sandra Kidd and Annette Flowers, all of Asheboro; brothers, Donald Ray Cagle and Talton Cagle, both of Seagrove; sisters, Frances McNeill of Seagrove, Edna Garner of Ramseur; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Colon Henry "Code" Davidson, 77, of 2036 N. Fayetteville St., Asheboro, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro. A private family graveside service will be 3 p.m. in Pilot Mountain.

He was a native of Randolph County and was vice president of Cottonall Inc., Winston-Salem.

Surviving are wife, Jacqueline Strayhorn Davidson of the home; sons, Colon "Vic" Davidson of Winston-Salem, Terry Davidson of Pilot Mountain; four grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

Ellen Gertrude Needham Hinshaw, 75, of 1020 Redding Road, Asheboro, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Randolph Memorial Park, with the Rev. Jeff Sypole officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Leon F. Hinshaw, a homemaker and a member of Browers Chapel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Kay H. Powell of Asheboro; son, James Franklin Hinshaw of Greenville, S.C.; brothers, Herbert Hoover Needham of Lexington, Charles Thomas Needham of Aberdeen; four grandchildren.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Lewis "Bill" Canoy Jr. and a member of Caraway Friends Meeting.

Surviving are daughter, Linda Hogan of Canada; sons, Kenneth L. Strout Jr. of Richmond, Va., Bob Strout of Pompano Beach, Fla.; sisters, Bernice Spry of Salisbury, Frances Wicker of Randleman, Rachel Griffin of Orlando, Fla.; brothers, Wayne Fogleman and Charles "Buddy" Fogleman, both of Randleman; three grandchildren.

TROY - Frances Marie Spivey, 49, of 449 Bruton St., died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Glen Hancock and the Rev. Clyde Allen officiating. Burial will be in the McRae family cemetery.

Walter Gaines Sr.
MT. GILEAD - Walter Gaines Sr., 83, of 214 Gaines Road, N.C. 73 West, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, in High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Mountain Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. James M. Whitaker officiating. Burial will be in Snow Hill Church Cemetery, Mt. Gilead.

He was a native of Montgomery County, the widower of Sarah Harris Gaines, attended public schools in Montgomery County, retired from the Mt. Gilead Postal Service and was formerly employed with Town Creek Indian Mound, Mt. Gilead. He was a Sunday School Superintendent and teacher at his church, a member of the NAACP, Paramount Lodge #36, and an AME Zion Conference Delegate.

Surviving are daughters, Blanche "Penny" Peguese, Loretta Little and Susie Lovelace, all of High Point, Lennette Harshaw of Randleman, Margie LeGrande of Mt. Gilead; sons, Walter Gaines Jr. of High Point, Herbert Gaines of the home, Burlee Gaines of Mt. Gilead; sisters, Susie Adams, Corlean Morgan and Minnie Flagg, all of Raleigh; brothers, Daniel Gaines of Randleman, Floyd Gaines of Raleigh, Bonnie Gaines of Boston, Mass.; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Harris Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, 7-8 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

Sadie Lee Bulla Dawson, 79, of 2013 Spero Road, Asheboro, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at Asheboro Health and Rehabilitation.

She was a native of Randolph County and a member of Asheboro Friends Meeting.

Surviving are husband, Glenn A. Dawson; sons, Glenn A. Dawson Jr. and Tyson Dawson, both of Asheboro; brothers, Frank Bulla, Kenneth Bulla and Don Bulla, all of Asheboro, Alfred Bulla of Lorida, Fla.; sisters, Velma McGill and Marie Lewallen, both of Asheboro; three grandchildren.

Surviving are daughters, Mary Stanley of Thomasville, Sarah Uylaky of Punta Gorda, Fla., Lola Smith and Carrie Voncannon, both of Asheboro, Pat McNeill of Farmer; sons, James Thomas of Martinsville, Va., Bobby Gene Thomas of Tucson, Ariz., Chesley Thomas Jr. of Asheboro, Michael Ray Thomas of Brown's Mill, N.J., William Raymond "W.R." Thomas of the home; 24 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Onslow County and the widow of Charlie W. Hensley.

Surviving are son, Sterling Hensley of Liberty; sisters, Sally Hensley of Liberty, Missouri Horne of Richland; brother, John A. "Bud" Batchlor of Liberty; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
