Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Wesleyan Church, with the Rev. Wilson Harris officiating. Burial will be in Pine Rest Cemetery.
He was a native of Chatham County, owned and operated Poe's Used Cars and Car Rentals and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are wife, Edith Swaringen Poe of the home; son, Earl Wayne Poe of Robbins; mother, Mattie Eva Poe of Robbins; sister, Mary Lou Barber of Aberdeen; brothers, Fred Poe Jr. of Robbins, Tommy Poe of Seagrove; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

George C. Crowley
PINEHURST - George Charles Crowley, 80, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, in Pinehurst.
Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Parish Church.
He was a native of Keansburg, N.J., the widower of Virginia Kozlowicz Crowley, a 1942 graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a degree in electrical engineering and a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He was an engineer and inventor who had more than 80 patents, was chairman of the Board of Trustees of St. Joseph of the Pines Hospital, Southern Pines and a retired executive vice president of research and engineering at Northern Electric.
Surviving are wife, Barbara Talley Crowley; daughters, Ginger Scott of Hobe Sound, Fla., Susan Brewster of Key Biscayne, Fla., Karen Klein of Cary, Elizabeth Nielson of Avon Lake, Ohio; stepdaughters, Katherine Higgins of Sarasota, Fla., Ruth Joachim of Milwaukee, Wis.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Powell Funeral Home and Crematory, Southern Pines, is in charge of the arrangements.

SENECA, S.C. - Robert Scott Alexander, 92, of 108 Daniel Ave., died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Seneca Presbyterian Church, where he was a member.
He was a native of Seneca, S.C., the widower of Helen Connors Alexander, retired owner of Seneca Lumber Company and co-owner of Alexander Concrete Company. He was a draftsman and a Realtor, a member of Masonic Lodge 185, Hejaz Shrine, a former Rotarian and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are daughters, Helen Alexander Macaulay of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Asheboro, Patricia Scott Alexander of Seneca; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the church following the service, other times at 30 Round Spinney Drive, Seneca, S.C. 29678.

Lona Agnes Baldwin, 66, of 4247 Old Marlboro Road, Sophia, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

She was a native of Montgomery County and the widow of W. Harvey Baldwin.

Reecie Robert "Pop" Byrd, 80, of 413 Queens Road, Asheboro, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at his home.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. James Ward and the Rev. Robert Garren officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.
He was a native of Mt. Gilead, of the Baptist faith, was a World War II U.S. Army veteran where he received the EAMET Campaign Medal with six Bronze service stars, one Bronze Arrowhead Good Conduct Medal, the Distinguished Unit badge and the Bronze Star Medal. He was a member of American Legion Post 45 and retired as a knitting fixer from Silver Knit Hosiery, High Point, after 14 years.
Surviving are wife, Clara Mann "Mom" Byrd; daughters, Shelia Bedell of Graham, Wanda Byrd of Burlington; sons, Ervin Lloyd, Wayne Byrd and Tommy Byrd, all of Asheboro; sister, Maxine Haywood of Asheboro; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Marcus United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Don Burns officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Richmond County, a veteran of the U. S. Military and belonged to the Methodist Men's Club of the church. He had been disabled since an accident in 1957.
