RANDLEMAN - Paula "Puff" Toomes Butts, 40, of 8161 U.S. 220 Business North, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service was 2 p.m. Thursday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, with the Rev. Ben Hurley officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County.

Surviving are daughter, Sally Ann Butts of Randleman; son, Oliver T. Butts of Randleman; sisters, Sherri T. Albright of Siler City, Debra Renee Toomes of Randleman; brothers, George Timothy Toomes of Archdale, Jerry Michael Toomes of Randleman; one grandchild.

"Doc" Groce
RANDLEMAN - Joseph Ernest "Doc" Groce, 81, of 1018 Worthville Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, with the Rev. Lanny Lancaster and the Rev. Lee Roy Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, retired from B.B. Walker Shoe Company and was a member of Worthville United Methodist Church.

Surviving are wife, Jessie Lovell Groce of Randleman; daughter, Wanda G. McClintock of Pleasant Garden.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

John C. Nixon
RANDLEMAN - John Curtis Nixon, 75, of 4899 Old Liberty Road, Franklinville, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at Sunbridge Care and Rehab. for Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Bethany United Methodist Church, Franklinville, where he was a member, with the Rev. Roy Sides and the Rev. Paul Griffin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a retired employee of Hatteras Yacht and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Pauline Vernon Nixon of Franklinville; son, Mike Nixon of Asheboro, Dean Nixon of Winston-Salem, Brian Nixon of Denver; brothers, Everette Nixon and Charles Nixon, both of Franklinville; six grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Charles H. Wensil
FRANKLINVILLE - Charles Henry Wensil, 70, of 3250 Kidds Mill Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Bart Milleson officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Iredell County, retired from Harrelson Rubber Company and was a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Marie Pugh Wensil of the home; son, Frank Laughlin of Thomasville; daughters, Tena Allen of Greensboro, Teresa Wright of Sophia; sisters, Dollie Shoemake and Eltha W. Thompson, both of Mooresville, Virginia Whitten of Ramseur; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

Dr. Clyde T. Young
CARY - Dr. Clyde Thomas Young, 69, of 1226 Walnut St., died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, in Rex Hospital, Raleigh.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at High Falls United Methodist Church, High Falls, with the Rev. Paul Kidd officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Durham County, a professor in Food Science at N.C. State University where he received his BS and MS degrees, and he received a Ph.D. in Food Science from Oklahoma State University. He was an author, worked at the University of Georgia, was a member of several professional societies and was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are wife, Catherine Seawell Young of the home; daughter, Dena Y. Pryor of Fuquay-Varina; sons, Tim Young and Tom Young, both of Grayson, Ga., James Young of Apex; sister, Myrtle Y. Payne of Lexington; eight grandchildren.

The family will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Kennedy Funeral Home in Robbins is in charge of the arrangements.

Nancy J. Arnold
Nancy Johnson Arnold, 65, of Asheboro, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Center Cross Baptist Church, with the Rev. Eugene Aikens officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Columbus, Ohio, and attended Cedar Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, Doug Johnson of Asheboro; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-8 p.m. Friday.

Maddie P. Haithcock
Maddie Poole Haithcock, 97, of GrayBrier Nursing and Retirement Center, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at the center.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro.

Charles M. Morgan
Charles McClain Morgan, 82, of Asheboro, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at Asheboro Health and Rehabilitation.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Dr. Boyd Stokes officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired from Harrelson Rubber Company, was a member of First United Methodist Church and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Jewell Reynolds Morgan of Asheboro; sister, J. AdLea Morgan of Asheboro; brothers, Max Morgan and Hiatt Morgan, both of Asheboro.

Josephine B. Glover
RAMSEUR - Josephine B. Glover, 84, of 524 Cheek Road, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at McCrary Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Burial will be in Oakland-McCrary Cemetery.

She was a member of the Methodist Women Society.

Surviving are daughters, Betty Brown, Inez Davis and Joan Isley, all of Ramseur, Edna Long of Washington, D.C.; son, Walter Glover of Ramseur; sister, Janie Brooks Dorsett of Siler City; brother, Troy Brooks of Ramseur; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 1-2 p.m. Saturday.

Farrar Funeral Home, Siler City, is in charge of the arrangements.

Ethylene R. Charnock
JAMESTOWN - Ethylene Ragsdale Charnock, 73, of Jamestown, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 200O, at High Point Regional Hospital.

A private family funeral service will be Saturday at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, Sedgefield Chapel. Entombment will be at Guilford Memorial Parks Mausoleum.

She was a native of Asheboro, the widow of Thornton Charnock, a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church and retired from High Point College.

Surviving are daughter, Sabrina C. Schumaker of Greensboro; stepdaughter, Dane Martin of Deltona, Fla.; stepson, William T. Charnock of Powhatan, Va.; sisters, Daisy Vestal, Cleta Mae Kearns, Faedene Maness, all of Asheboro; brothers, Delbert Ragsdale of Asheboro, Burnis Ragsdale of Charlotte.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

Joseph A. Angel
HIGH POINT - Joseph Arthur Angel, 87, of 608 Hawthorne Ave., died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Sechrest Funeral Home, High Point, with the Rev. Ashby Brown, the Rev. Mike Smith, Deacon Joe Smith and the Rev. Dale Collingwood officiating.

He was a native of Macon County, employed with the Guilford County Schools in the maintenance department, a World War II U.S. Army veteran where he was awarded the Bronze Star and was a member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving are wife, Lois Franks Angel of the home; daughters, Betty Jo Leach, Mary A. Jarrell, Sara Lynn Angel, Donna Marie Angel, all of High Point; sons, Donald Ray Angel of Kernersville, William Gaither Angel of Asheboro, James Calvin Angel, Lonnie Eugene Angel, Kenneth Craig Angel, all of High Point; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Memorials be made to the Children's Home Society of North Carolina, 1001 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27104.

Thomas J. Robinson III
GREENSBORO - Thomas J. "Rob" Robinson Ill, 29, of 14-E Summertree Lane, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at Wesley Long Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at West Market Street United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Westminster Gardens.

He was a native of Greensboro, a graduate of Appalachian State University, a member of the ATO Fraternity and a mortgage broker with First Fidelity Mortgage Company.

Surviving is sister, Mary R. McCormick of Jamestown.

The family will be at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, North Elm Street, Greensboro, 7:30-9 p.m. Saturday.

DENTON - Emitt S. Edwards, 69, of 359 S. Jones St., died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, with the Rev. Lacy Cagle and the Rev. Hubert McCloud officiating. Burial will be in Tom's Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Wise County, Va., a retired coal miner and a member of Holiness Mission in Biscoe.

Surviving are wife, Patty McConell Edwards of the home; sons, Tim Edwards, Eddie Joe Edwards, Ken Edwards, Jerry Edwards, Wayne Edwards, Sammy Edwards, all of Denton; daughters, Brenda Ingram of Denton, Glenda McDonald of Lexington; mother, Sallie Hicks Edwards of Denton; brothers, Wilburn Edwards of Denton, James Edwards, John Edwards, both of Lexington; sisters, Virginia "Virgie" Duty of Asheboro, Betty McCarn of Lexington, Shirley Fritts of Denton; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

Phyllis S. McDaniel
HIDDENITE - Phyllis Smith McDaniel, 51, of 4519 Chetham Ford Road, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, as the result of an automobile accident.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Chapman Funeral Home, Stony Point, with the Rev. Jason Guyer officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Cross Hill Cemetery, Carthage.

She a native of Moore County and was employed at Littles Market Basket in Taylorsville.

Surviving are sons, Terry Hardy and Eddie Hardy, both of Hiddenite; brothers, Joe Smith of Snow Camp, Wilbur Smith of Winston-Salem, Alfred Smith of Olivia; sisters, Pauline Bowers and Sally Wilkerson, both of Sanford; one grandson; one stepgrandson.

The family will be at the home.

ROBBINS - Medford "Tadpole" Allred, 63, of 203 Allred Road, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at his home.

He was a native of Moore County, a master mechanic and retired from Renfro Corp Star Mfg.

Surviving are wife, Sarah Nooe Allred of the home; daughters, Cathy Armstrong of Wills Point, Texas, Cindy Brown, Sheila Hobgood, both of Robbins; sons, Michael Tad Allred of Robbins, Michael McPherson of Texas; sisters, Sadie East of Eagle Springs, Faye Brewer, Loretta Moore, both of Robbins; brothers, Harold Allred, Howard Allred, both of Robbins; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Dr. James C. Cameron
COLUMBUS, OHIO - Dr. James C. Cameron, 62, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Doctor's Hospital West, Columbus, Ohio.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, with Dr. Don Davis officiating. Burial will be in Leach Cemetery, Star.

He was native of Star and practiced medicine in Columbus, Ohio.

Surviving are daughter, Debbie Fisher of Columbus, Ohio; son, James Todd Cameron of Powell, Ohio; sisters, Doris Comer of Columbus, Ohio, Louise Freeman of Star; two grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Saturday, other times at 110 Brewer St., Star.

Allie M. Moore
ORANGE PARK, FLA. - Allie Mae Moore, 94, formerly of Asheboro, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at Orange Park, Fla.

She was a native of Smithfield, the widow of Vernon Moore, worked as a shoe sales manager at Jones Department Store and retired from Western Union.

Surviving are son, Robert S. Moore of Orange Park, Fla.; two grandchildren.

Aaron Cremation and Burial Service, Orange Park, Fla., is in charge of the arrangements.

Flora M. Lester
CLEARFORK , W.Va. - Flora Mae Lester, 69, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at her son's home.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Pads Fork Freewill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Russell King officiating. Burial will be at Emily Green Cemetery.

She was a West Virginia native and a homemaker.

Surviving are sons, Ray Lester, Eddie Lester, both of Ramseur; daughter, Lou Petrosky of Buchanan, Ga.; Ray Shepherd of the home; brothers, Clark Justice of Seagrove, Darrel Richmond of Coleridge; sisters, Ilene Yoder of Farmville, Va., Violet Perdue, Billie Steel, both of Asheboro, Brenda Odom of Hensley, W.Va., Mary Steel of Oceana, W.Va.; five grandchildren.

The family will be at Fanning Funeral Home, Iaeger, W. Va., 6-9 p.m. Friday.

FORT WAYNE, IN. - Ted R. Cutchin, 85, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at Beverly Rehab & Specialty Care Center, Fort Wayne.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at D.O. McComb & Sons, Funeral Home, Ft. Wayne. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery.

He was a native of Norwood and a retired foundry foreman for Magnavox.

Surviving are wife, Mildred Cutchin of Fort Wayne; sons, Thomas Cutchin, Gregory Cutchin, both of Fort Wayne, Ronald Cutchin of Elkhart, In.; daughters, Kay Smith of New Haven, In., Lydia Burkholder of Grabill, In.; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

John A. McDowell
John Allen McDowell, 83, of 2168 Poole Town Road, Asheboro, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rushwood Park Wesleyan Church, with Dr. Ron Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County, attended Rushwood Park Wesleyan Church, where he was a member of the Sunday School, and was retired from Klopman Mills.

Surviving are wife, Cora Lee McDowell of Asheboro; daughters, Linda Bonkemeyer of Asheboro, Betty Petty of Franklinville; stepdaughter, Marie Duncan of Liberty; stepson, Thomas Robbins of Asheboro; brothers, Hal McDowell and Glenn McDowell, both of Asheboro; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

She was a native of Guilford County, the widow of Jack Phillips and a former employee with Blue Bell and Western Electric, both in Greensboro.

Surviving are husband, Julius Poe of Liberty; daughter, Edna Coble of Pleasant Garden; stepson, Buddy Poe of Staley; sisters, Betty Hull of Pleasant Garden, Marjie Causey of Greensboro; brothers, Harvey Garrett and Jack Garrett, both of Pleasant Garden; one granddaughter; five stepgrandchilden; five stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
