Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ed Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Cross Hill Cemetery.
He was a native of Moore County, served on the Carthage Volunteer fire Department for 24 years and was chief for 19 years and retired after 33 as superintendent of Public Works for the Town of Carthage.
Surviving are wife, Charity Troxler Barber; sons, Terry Barber of the home, Arthur R. "Artie" Barber Jr. of Carthage; sisters, Betty B. Dunlap of Robbins, Judy B. Oldham of Bear Creek; brother, Ted Barber of Star.

Pearl C. Craven
Pearl Coltrane Craven, 92, of 2240 N.C. 705 South, Seagrove, died Friday, March 31, 2000, at Autumn Care of Biscoe.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Union Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Herman White and the Rev. Ron Copple officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Braxton Craven, a birth-right member of Cedar Square Friends Meeting and attended Union Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are daughter, Doris A. Craven of Seagrove; sons, Weldon Craven of Seagrove, Kelly Craven of Bennett; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Amboy, Ill.

RANDLEMAN - William Thomas "Bill" Hales Sr., 64, of 2043 Heritage Court, Asheboro, died Friday, March 31, 2000, at his home.

He was a native of Cumberland County, a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, employed with Piedmont Natural Gas in Greensboro and was a ham radio operator.
Surviving are wife, Brenda Simmons Hales of Asheboro; daughter, Kimberly Kime of Grays Chapel; son, William Thomas "Tom" Hales II of Asheboro; brother, Lonnie R. Hales of Weaversville; two grandsons.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Williard Lee Farlow, a retired cafeteria worker at New Market School and was a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School class at her church.
Surviving are daughters, Sarah Kennerley of Pontiac, Ill., Eunice Segers of Sophia, Lois Saunders of Hertford; sons, Isaac Farlow and Joel Jason Farlow, both of Sophia; brother, Leroy Nelson of Long Beach; sisters, Leah Baker of Trinity, Inez Hayworth of Wallburg; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Moore County, the widower of Zonie Hobbs Hussey, retired from Cone Mills, was a member of the American Pencil Collecting Society and has served as a deacon, trustee and treasurer at his church.
