THOMASVILLE - Leah "Grace" Deaton Chapman, 79, of 213 Unity St., died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home, Thomasville, with Dr. Ronald S. Pierce and the Rev. Van. E. Brinkley officiating. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, retired from Chapman Jewelry and was a member of First Baptist Church and the Philathea Sunday School class.

Surviving are husband, W. Vernon Chapman of the home; daughter, Joy Moyer of Doylestown, Pa.; son, Richard Chapman of Thomasville; sisters, Eva Stout, Margaret Maddox, both of Greensboro; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

Lucy H. Branson

SANFORD - Lucy Hutchins Branson, 81, died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at Central Carolina Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Rogers Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Martin Groover officiating. Burial will be in Cameron Cemetery.

Surviving are daughters, Bonnie Thomas of Sanford, Carol Brown of Lillington; sons, Robert Branson, Fred Branson, both of Asheboro, Bill Branson of Siler City, Cecil Branson Jr. of Reidsville; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Rogers Pickard Funeral Home, Sanford, 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Juanita B. Boone
Juanita Burgess Boone, 73, of 311 Tremont Drive, Asheboro, died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at Brian Center Health & Rehabilitation in Asheboro.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Parks Cross Roads Christian Church Cemetery, with the Rev. James Turner officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County and a homemaker.

Surviving are son, James Boone of Randleman; brother, Hoyt Burgess of Ramseur; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Howard S. Eury

SOPHIA - Howard Simmie Eury, 69, of 3301 Beckerdite Road, died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Cumby Mortuary, Archdale, with the Rev. Carroll M. Upton officiating. Entombment will be in Montlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Raleigh.

He was at native of Mecklenburg County, retired from Pitney-Bowes, Inc. in Greensboro and was a Korean War U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a member of Winston Masonic Lodge 167 AF and AM in Winston-Salem and of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and a bluegrass fiddler who played for residents in nursing homes.

Surviving are wife, Carroll Walls Eury of the home; daughter, Jenny Eury of Raleigh; stepdaughter, Teresa Lewis of Elon College; stepson, Cary Slack of Franklinville.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday.

Dora F. Hicks

STALEY - Dora Fogleman Hicks, 95, of Country Forest Manor, Siler City, formerly of Hicks Farm Road, Staley, died Thursday, March 12, 1998, at Country Forest.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur.

Mazelle M. Brannon

TRINITY - Mazelle Martha Brannon, 85, of 5107 Libby Road, died Tuesday, March 10, 1998, at her home.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary's United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Miller Carter Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Carolina Biblical Gardens.

She was a native of Belmont.

Surviving are sisters, Wenell Brannon of the home, Faye Brannon of High Point; foster daughter, Linda Carter of Durham; one granddaughter.

The family will be at the church 1 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home.

MT. GILEAD - Mildred Johnson Greene, 78, formerly of Route 1, died Thursday, March 12, 1998, at Health Haven Nursing Center, Greensboro.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Wadeville Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Gary Long officiating.

Surviving are sisters, Charlotte Pierce of Asheboro, Ruby McDowell of Archdale.

The family will be at McKeithan Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, 6-8 p.m. Friday.

Iree Alston

BEAR CREEK - Iree Alston, 50, of 535 Hanner Town Road, died Monday, March 9, 1998.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Centennial A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are wife, Cara M. Alston of the home; mother, Evelyn Alston of Bear Creek; daughters, Shirley Brim of Bear Creek, Shelia Bland of Pittsboro; sons, Walter Lee Goldston, Anthony Goldston, both of Siler City, Mark Mason of Asheboro; sisters, Wanda Cotton of Bear Creek, Lane Marsh of Goldston, Brenda Rives, Mae Green, both of Siler City; brothers, Fredick Murdock of Greensboro, Cecil Alston of Siler City, Ramon Lewis Alston of Goldston, Nile Murdock of Bear Creek; seven grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 7-8 p.m. Friday.

Ellie S. VonCannon
Ellie Sink VonCannon, 87, of Asheboro, died Friday, March 13, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at New Hope United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Luther Crady Jr. and the Rev. Lowell McNaney officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Clayson D. VonCannon and was retired from Acme-McCrary Corp. after 50 years.

Surviving are son, Eugene VonCannon of Asheboro; sister, Edna VonCannon of Asheboro; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be in the church fellowship hall following the service.

RAMSEUR - Ada Moffitt Cox, 66, of 2505 N.C. 22 South, died Friday, March 13, 1998, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Parks Cross Roads Christian Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. James Turner and Dr. Ron Wachs officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and was retired from Ramseur Interlock.

Surviving are husband, Nathan Cox of the home; sons, Stephen A. Cox of Aberdeen, Christopher R. Cox of Eugene, Oregon; brothers, Vaughn Moffitt, Graham Moffitt, both of Franklinville; sisters, Gertrude Moffitt of Wilson, Ida M. York of Ramseur; one grandchild.

The family will be at the Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

DENTON - Maebell Vaughn Adams, 89, of Mountain Vista Health Park, formerly of Frank Road, Denton, died Friday, March 13, 1998, at Mountain Vista.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, with the Rev. Jay Hulin and the Rev. Roger Weisner officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery, High Point.

She was a native of Chesterfield County, S.C., the widow of James B. Adams, a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are sons, Garland Adams of Denton, Jerry Adams of Thomasville, W.J. Adams of Waldorf, Md., Robert Adams of Fort Walden Beach, Fla.; daughters, Dene Segrest of Raleigh, Nancy Bowers of Greensboro, Anne Lassiter of Archdale, Nellie McArthur of Mechanicsville, Md.; brother, James David Vaughn of Sweetwater, Tenn.; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Sunday.

Robert C. Keck Sr.

SILER CITY - Robert C. "Dock" Keck Sr., 75, of 419 Roland Marsh Road, died Saturday, March 14, 1998, at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at West End United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Richard Farmer officiating. Burial will be in Chatham Memorial Park.

He was a native of Chatham County, retired after 40 years with the N.C. Department of Transportation and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Bronie Tripp Keck; sons, Robert C. Keck Jr. of Apex, Danny Ray Keck of Siler City; daughter, Addie L. Keck of Siler City; sister, Lucy Josey of Bear Creek; brother, Willard Jones of Siler City; five grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Jean B. Porter

WEST END - Jean Barnette Porter, 58, of 21 Fox Creek Court, Travelers Rest, S.C., formerly of West End, died Thursday, March 12, 1998, at St. Francis Hospital, Greenville, S.C.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at West End Cemetery, with the Rev. Ken Baker officiating.

She was a native of Moore County, the widow of Donald R. Porter and a member of Berea First Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, Tony Douglas Porter of Easley, S.C.; daughter, Carol Porter Patterson of Travelers Rest, S.C.; mother, Pauline Carter Barnette of Eagle Springs; brother, James Barnette of North Carolina; sister, Ann Barnette Luck of Eagle Springs; four grandchildren.

Swanee G. Pittman

STATE ROAD - Swanee Golden Pittman, 76, of Route 1, died Friday, March 13, 1998, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital, Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Mining Ridge Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Paul Bell and the Rev. Kenneth Wood officiating. Burial will be in Crestwood Memorial Gardens.

She was a native of Surry County, the widow of Alec Lee Pittman and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughter, Judy Wooten of State Road; son, Kenneth Pittman of Randleman; sister, Helen Garris of Elkin; brothers, Leo Golden, Robey Golden, Joe Golden, all of State Road, Harvey Golden of Elkin, Bill Golden of New Cumberland, Pa.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Lawrence E. English
RANDLEMAN - Lawrence Edward English, 57, of 1453 Old Liberty Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, March 14, 1998, at his home.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bailey Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Jack Cleary and the Rev. Jimmy English officiating.

He was a native of Scotland County.

Surviving are parents, Winfred and Mabelle English of the home; brother, Clarence English of Raeford.

The family will be at the church noon-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

SILER CITY - Charles Stephen Machon, 79, of 509 Edwards Road, died Saturday, March 14, 1998, at Laurels of Chatham, Pittsboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rocky River Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Greg Burriss and the Rev. Gerald Bridges officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Providence, R.I., a tool and die maker and a retired engineer with the space program in Melbourne, Fla. and was a deacon, Sunday School teacher and a member of the Brotherhood and Young at Heart Senior Citizens at his church. He was a member of Silk Hope Ruritan Club and Doric Lodge 38 A.F. & A.M., Providence.

Surviving are wife, Helen Wilks Machon; sons, Wayne Machon of Oxford, Donald Machon of South Deerfield, Ma.; daughters, Diane Morissette of Melbourne, Fla., Carol Atwood of Richmond, Va.; brother, A.T. Machon Jr. of Melbourne, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the home.

He was a native of Richmond County and a retired farmer and furniture worker.

Surviving are wife, Wilma B. McKenzie; daughter, Brenda Finch of Harrisburg; son, Larry McKenzie of Jackson Springs; sisters, Mary Moore of Asheboro, Virginia Weber of Whittier, Calif.; six grandchildren.

The family will be at Boles Funeral Home & Crematory, Seven Lakes, 7-9 p.m. Monday.
