Memorial service will be 4 p.m. Monday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman.

She was a native of High Point, a former employee of Elastex of High Point and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, James L. Kye of Randleman; daughters, Kimberly Kye of Randleman, Christie Kennedy of Greensboro; stepdaughters, Vicky Kye of Florida, Tammy Diane Sawyer of Sophia, Mary Jane Kye of Asheboro; stepsons, James H. Kye and Richard O. Kye, both of Randleman; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

No visitation is planned.

Jeffrey D. Carrick
WILMINGTON - Jeffrey Dean Carrick, 37, of 9533 River Road, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Sunday at the Big Oak Church of God in Black Ankle, with the Rev. Earl Ward officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a Randolph County native and self-employed in construction.

Surviving are parents, Harvey and Shirley Shofe Carrick of Star; daughter, Melisa A. Carrick of Robbins; brothers, Danny Ray Carrick and Dale Morton, both of Star; two grandchildren.

Phillips Funeral Home, Star, is in charge of the arrangements.

Stephen A. Bowden

BURLINGTON - Stephen Alexander Bowden, 16, 2316 Venie St., died Saturday, June 3, 2000.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Robert K. Barrows officiating.

He was a native of Durham County, a student at Williams High School and was a percussionist with the Williams High School Marching Band.

Surviving are mother, Linda York Bowden of the home; father, Harold Dean Bowden; sister, Antonia Bowden of the home; grandmother, Barbara K. York of Asheboro.

The family will be at the service at 4 p.m. Tuesday, and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to the Williams High School Band, 1307 S. Church St., Burlington, N.C. 27215.

Lowe Funeral Home, Burlington, is in charge of arrangements.

Leatha B. Bowles

TROY - Leatha Bailey Bowles, 73, of 1649 Pleasant Grove Church Road, Mt. Gilead, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Little River United Methodist Church, Mt. Gilead, with the Rev. Martin Davis and the Rev. David Wensil officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a Montgomery County native and retired from Gilead Manufacturing Corp.

Surviving are sons, Jessie Bowles and Jim Bowles, both of Mt. Gilead, Marvin Bowles of Biscoe and Lane Bowles of Norwood; daughters, Frances Sasser and Linda Lee, both of Norwood, Judy Maness of Robbins and Betty Beane of Wingate; stepsons, E.J. Bowles of Patterson, Calif., Leroy Bowles of Palo Alto, Calif., Ralph Bowles of Martinez, Calif.; stepdaughter, Pearl Epps of Red Springs; brothers, James Bailey Jr. and Carl Lee Dunn, both of Mt. Gilead; sisters, Margaret Starling of Rockingham and Carolyn Dunn of Mt. Gilead; 37 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. Monday, and other times at the home.

Robert E. Frazier

FRANKLINVILLE - Robert Earl Frazier, 55, of 4098 Bethany Church Road, died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

No service will be held.

He was a native of New Castle, Pa., a graduate of New Castle High School and a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Surviving are son, Eric D. Frazier of Athens, Ga.; Adina DeVetter of Athens, Ga.; two granddaughters.

A. Berniece Pursley

ASHEBORO - Alma Berniece Pursley, 74, of Asheboro, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Wesley Long Community Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be Wednesday at the Sterling Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton, Texas. Burial will be in Galveston Memorial Park, Hitchcock, Texas.

She was a native of Texas City, Texas, and was the widow of Esmond Pursley.

Surviving are son, Keith Pursley of Asheboro; daughters, Phyllis Lindquist of England and Sheryl Blankenship of Texas; sister, Nelda Bankston of Texas; brothers, Robert Wooley, Darwin Wooley and Tommy Wooley, all of Texas; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Local arrangement are being made by Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro.

Sadie V. Pardue

ASHEBORO - Sadie Varner Pardue, 92, of 1129 Park Drive, Asheboro, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, at Asheboro Health and Rehabilitation.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rushwood Park Wesleyan Church, where she was a member, with Dr. Ron Hamilton and the Rev. Ronald W. Terry officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Thomas Clifton Pardue and retired from Bossong Hosiery Mills.

Surviving are daughter, Cora Lee McDowell, of Asheboro; son, David Lee Pardue of Asheboro; sister, Bertha Evans of Asheboro; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, Asheboro, with the Rev. Robert L. Kidd officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Charlie Farlow, co-owner of Cherry Street Grocery and Farlow Produce and a member of Asheboro Friends Meeting.

Surviving are sisters, Myrtis Wall and Cleo Matthews, both of Asheboro; brother, Guy Richardson of Sophia.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-8:30 p.m. Monday.

Leonard G. Johnson

MT. GILEAD - Leonard Griffin Johnson, 58, of 171 Hallyburton Road, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gary Rutherford officiating. Burial will be in Dover Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was a Randolph County native and a hosiery mill fixer.

Surviving are wife, Shirley Johnson of the home; son, Michael Johnson of Mt. Gilead; daughters, Tracy McIntyre and Vickie Greene, both of Troy, Diane Stoker of Albemarle, and Laura Sipe and Sandra Miller, both of Elkton, Va.; sisters, Nancy Allen and Shirley Green, both of Star; brother, W.A. Johnson of Troy; 16 grandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Betty E. Lockhart
Betty Emma Lockhart, 64, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Shady Grove United Methodist Church, Asheboro.

She was a native of Randolph County, a graduate of Randolph High School, Liberty, attended Randolph Community College for a degree in business, and was retired from Roses Department Store and Sears Credit Center, Greensboro.

Surviving are husband, Lonnie Lockhart of the home; children, Deborah and Terri Lockhart of Ramseur, Elton Lockhart of Liberty, Wendell Lockhart of Owing Mills, Md., Lynn and Kelvin Lockhart of Asheboro; brother, Joe Thomas Spinks of the home; 11 grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 1-2 p.m. Tuesday.

Robert Horace Burrow, 84, of 1213 Giles Chapel Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Steve Woods officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired from C.H. Wood, Inc. and attended Giles Chapel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are wife, Etta C. Burrow; son, William Robert Burrow of Asheboro; brother, Odell Burrow of High Point; sisters, Mildred Keye and Dorothy Priddy, both of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Oakle E. Hunt Sr.
Oakle Elwood Hunt Sr., 91, of 1111 Mt. View Church Road, Asheboro, died Monday, June 5, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mountain View Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Austin Frye, the Rev. David Hunt and the Rev. Henry Thompson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Myrtle Miller Hunt, the founder of Hunt's Auto Parts, Inc., and a trustee at his church.

Surviving are daughters, Louise Jarrell and Eula Mae Trotter, both of Asheboro; sons, Charles L. Hunt, Larry M. Hunt, Oakle E. Hunt Jr., all of Asheboro; sisters, Blanche Dougan and Jeanette Harlan, both of Asheboro; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6:30-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

Irene Trogdon Malone, 84, of Asheboro, died Sunday, June 4, 2000.

She was a native of Randolph County, a homemaker, and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are sons, Joseph L. Malone, Jack D. Malone, both of Asheboro, Samuel L. Malone of Rapid City, S.D., Harvey Rayvon Malone of Bremen, Ga.; daughters, Doris M. Daniels of Rock Hill, S.C., Margaret M. Brady of Asheboro, Hilda Hayes and Ann M. Seals, both of Charlotte, Sandra M. O'Hara of San Diego, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., a member of the National Guard, owner/operator of L. Negrin and Sons in Asheboro and Robbins, and was of the Jewish faith.

Surviving are wife, Paulette A. Negrin of the home; sons, Layne Negrin of Oregon House, Calif., Chris Toriello of Asheboro; brother, Isadore Negrin of Tamarac, Fla.; two grandchildren.

She was a native of Davie County, the widow of William Newsom and a homemaker.

He was native of Charlotte, the widower of Paulette Griggs, a U.S. Army veteran, and a carrier for The Courier-Tribune.

Surviving are mother, Grace Griggs of Charlotte; daughter, Amy Bundy of Concord; son, David Griggs of Concord; sister, Judy Griggs of Fort Mill, S.C.; three grandchildren.

BEAR CREEK - Madeline Smith Forrester, 84, of 3012 Bear Creek Church Road, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, at Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford.

She was a native of Chatham County, the widow of Herman Alfred Forrester, a member of the Hazel Moody and Sarah Margaret Dunn Sunday School class at her church, and was a retired postmaster after 25 years.

Surviving are two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

She was a deaconess, choir leader and a missionary at her church.

She was a native of Yadkin County and worked as an Operating Room Tech in Atlanta, Ga.
