TROY - Harvey Lendo Poole, 66, of 381 Roslyn Road, Troy, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, with the Rev. Gary Easter and the Rev. Cabot Inman officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a member of Westbrook Baptist Church, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a retired employee of Collins & Aikman Corp.

Surviving are wife, Minnie McIntyre Poole of the home; sons, Harvey T. Poole of Albemarle, Tim Poole of Biscoe, Terry Poole of Ophir; brothers, Leroy Poole of Polkton, James Poole of Hope Mills, Otis Poole of Mt. Gilead; sisters, Mary Ann Yow of Biscoe, Dorothy Key of Carthage; eight grandchildren.

The family will be at the home.

BENNETT - Annie Hicks Brewer, 94, of 248 Lee St., died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at Chatham Hospital, Siler City.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Bennett Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Tim Strider and the Rev. Robert Bouldin officiating. Burial will be in Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County.

Surviving are daughters, Alberta Brady of the home, Ruby Brady of Bennett, Geneva Williams of Siler City; brother, Clyde Hicks of Siler City; 21 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Joyce-Brady Funeral Home, Bennett, 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Donald L. Beane Sr.
SILER CITY - Donald Lewis Beane Sr., 60, of 450 W. Perry Road, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Travis Owen, the Rev. David Hobson and the Rev. Joe Casteel officiating. Burial will be in Rocky River Friends Cemetery.

He was a native of Siler City, president of Beane & Efird Printers, Inc., Siler City, and a banjo player with the Blue Grass Experience for 34 years.

Surviving are wife, Camela Perry Beane of Siler City; sons, Donald Lewis Beane Jr. of Siler City, Perry Eugene Beane of Greensboro; mother, Eula Pike Beane of Siler City; brothers, Rev. Eugene Beane of Fayetteville, James Beane of Greensboro, Dwight Beane of Siler City; sisters, Myrtie Stevens and Nancy Burke, both of Siler City; one granddaughter.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Jim Morrison
MORGANTON - Jim Morrison, 85, of Patton Street, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Sossoman Funeral Home, Morganton, with the Rev. Robert Roach officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites by members of the Catawba Valley Masonic Lodge #217.

He was a native of Catawba County, the widower of Iris McGimsey Morrison, a member of First United Methodist Church of Morganton and a retired employee of Flavorich. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a member of Masonic Lodge #217, the Oasis Shrine Temple in Charlotte and the Burke County Shrine Club.

Surviving are brother, Thomas Albert Morrison of Newton; sisters, Helen Lambert of Conover, Naomi Seitz of Hickory.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday.

ASHEBORO - Dorothy Mae Garner Stafford Hill, 79, of 617 Home Ave., Asheboro, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, in Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Central Wesleyan Church, with Dr. John Williamson, the Rev. A. J. Kendrick and the Rev. Robert Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Moore County and retired from Bossong Hosiery Mill.

Surviving are daughter, Janet Stafford Kidd of Bennett; son, Sidney Allen Stafford of Farnville, Va.; sisters, Teresa G. Whitehead of Ramseur, Geneva G. Nance, Mary G. Williams, Faye G. Golien, all of Asheboro; brother, Roy E. Garner of Asheboro; three grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m., Friday, other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Kidd, 1864 Bernard Purvis Road, Bennett, and Mr. and Mrs. Dolen Williams, 816 Dixon Ave., Asheboro.

Evans C. Matrangos
ASHEBORO - Evans Chris Matrangos, 70, of 1764 Ken Lee Court, Asheboro, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 7 p.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Father Vasile Mihai officiating.

He was a native of Atlanta, Ga., a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, was a retired president and owner of Hospital Insurance Systems, Inc. in Orlando, Fla. and was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Orlando, where he formerly served as president of the Parish Council.

Surviving are wife, Tommy Jeanelle Almond Matrangos; daughters, Walda Marie Matrangos of Greensboro, Stephanie Ann Matrangos-Hernquist of Orlando, Fla.; one grandson.

The family will be at the funeral home following the service.

Jerry Miller
HIGH POINT - Jerry Miller, 76, of 2734-C Annmore Circle, died Monday, June 26, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Haizlip Funeral Home, High Point, with the Rev. Haywood T. Gray officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

He was a native of Jefferson, S.C. and the widower of Maggie Cozette Miller. He was last employed as a fire deliveryman, later worked part-time as a janitor at Thayer Coggin and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are daughters, Robin Mabry of Asheboro, Louise Ingram of Greensboro; stepson, Heager LeVoyd Hill of Birmingham, Ala.; brothers, Kermitt Miller of Bennettsville, S.C., Walter Meadows of Jefferson, S.C.; sisters, Uenda Scott of Washington, D.C., Geneva Brown, Lula McCoy, Bonnie Kirby, all of High Point.

The family will be at the funeral home 12:30 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of Bonnie Kirby, 1113 Worth St., High Point.

Shirley C. York
GREENSBORO - Shirley Faye Chrisco York, 52, of 3204 N. Hayden St., Greensboro, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at Wesley Long Community Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at New Hope United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Brad Thie officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County and worked in the textile industry.

Surviving are sons, Jeff Silvers of Charlotte, Chad York; stepson, Tony York of Asheboro; sister, Linda White of Asheboro; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of Linda White, 5369 S. 220 Business, Lot 2, Asheboro, N.C.

Earnest G. Richardson
SILER CITY - Earnest Grover "Pop" Richardson, 87, formerly of Coleridge, died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation in Siler City.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Henry Cavinaugh officiating.

He was a retired truck driver, the widower of Naomi Suitts Richardson and Mary Smith Richardson, a produce salesman, a member of Friendly Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are son, Earnest Dean "Bud" Richardson of Liberty; daughters, Evelyn R. Williams and Brenda Garrett, both of Liberty, Cathy Adams of Virginia and Sherry Gravely of Siler City; half sisters, Ethel Kaufman and Alice Kennedy, both of Randleman; two stepchildren; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of Evelyn R. Williams on Martin Street in Liberty.

Frank Lanier
DENTON - James Frank Lanier, 97, of SunBridge Health and Rehabilitation of Asheboro, formerly of Canaan Church Road, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Lineberry United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Peter McGuire, the Rev. Vance Edwards and the Rev. Ron Chaney officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Davidson County, a former employee of Bisher Hosiery Mill and a farmer.

Surviving are wife, Elma Russell Lanier of Asheboro; son, David M. Lanier Sr. of Denton; daughters, Lola Mae Scarboro, Marguerite Nance, Elwina Shaw, Betty Jo Yates and Ann See, all of Denton; brothers, D. Lawton Lanier of High Point, R. L. Lanier of Ramseur; sisters, Lois Smith of Denton, Bonnie Gordon of Wayne, Maine; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Alma F. Greene
MT. GILEAD - Alma Felts Greene, 90, of 101 Loblolly Drive, died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Jim Harris officiating. Burial will be in Sharon Cemetery.

She was a native of Carroll County, Va., the widow of Roger T. Greene, a graduate of Appalachian State Teachers College, and was retired from the public school system.

Surviving are sons, Tipton Greene of Mt. Gilead, John E. Greene of Charlotte, Robert E. Greene of Greensboro; daughters, Dr. Barbara Shipes of Yorktown, Va., Mary Jo Thomas of Augusta, Ga., Martha Jane Honeycutt of Charlotte; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at McKeithan Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Mattie M. Upchurch
ROBBINS - Mattie Morgan Upchurch, 92, of 381 E. Salisbury St., died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at Britthaven Nursing Center in Albemarle.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Larry Higgins and the Rev. Claude Chaffin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was the widow of both Beecher Brown and Frank Upchurch, a member of the United Methodist Women, the Noah Morgan Sunday School Class and was a retired seamstress.

Surviving are daughter, Barbara Brown East of Monroe; niece, Cindy Garner, who grew up in the home; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Edith M. Walker
ASHEBORO - Edith Milks Walker, 83, of 1027 Westmont Drive, Asheboro, died Friday, June 30, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Central United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. William Christopher Thore, the Rev. William H. Pheagin and Chaplain Tim Pheagin officiating. Burial will be in Asheboro City Cemetery.

She was a native of Bradford, Pa., and the widow of Judge Hal Hammer Walker.

Surviving are daughter, Mrs. Philip (Bibba) Thomas of Raleigh; sons, Hal Hammer Walker Jr. and Richard Worth Walker, both of Asheboro; brothers, Clayton Milks of Asheboro, Bob Milks of Cary, Dick Milks of Madison and Gilbert Milks of Charlottesville, Va.; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-8 p.m. Saturday.

Ted B. Daly
RALEIGH - Ted B. Daly, 72, of 5905 Oak Forest Drive, Raleigh, died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at Rex Healthcare.

Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday in the Chapel of Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. John P. Johnson officiating.

He was a Mecklenburg County native.

Surviving are wife, Polly Key Daly of the home; son, Mark E. Daly of the home; daughter, Tracey Lynn Daly of the home; sister, Mona Daly Smith of Lumberton.

The family will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to the donor's local Hospice, or to the American Cancer Society.

She was a Moore County native and retired from Springs Mill, Aileen Plant, Biscoe.

Surviving are brothers, Eugene Williams of Asheboro and Glen Williams of Biscoe.

Virginia B. Vest
ROBBINS - Virginia Brown Vest, 74, of 3871 N.C. 705, Robbins, died Friday, June 30, 2000.

Funeral Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Brown's Chapel Christian Church, with the Rev. Fred Richardson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, the widow of Henry Vest, a homemaker and a member of the Community Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Kathy Vest of the home and Joyce V. Brown, Nancy V. Chriscoe, Diane V. Key and Katy V. Myrick, all of Robbins; son, Ronnie L. Vest of Robbins; sister, Kathleen Vest of Robbins; brother, Shelton Brown of Robbins.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Sunday and other times at the home of Ronnie Vest, 184 Brown's Chapel Road, Robbins.

Cloyd Spinks
RAMSEUR - Cloyd Spinks, of 5156 Brookgreen Road, Died Wednesday, June 28, 2000.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Oakland Baptist Church, Ramseur. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are daughters, Daisy Shoffner of the home and Martha S. Matthews of Franklinville; sons, Ed Spinks of the home and Collester Alston of Siler City; sisters, Myrtle Nash of Stamford, Conn., Bessie Phillip of Washington, D.C. and Dorothy Dowd of Ramseur; brothers, Ervin Spinks of Liberty, Lonzo Spinks of Ramseur and William Spinks of Bridgeport, Conn.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 2-3 p.m. Sunday.

RAMSEUR - Walter Griff Spinks, of 482 Isley Lane Road, died Thursday, June 29, 2000, in Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be Monday at Isley Lane Holiness Church, Ramseur. Burial will be in Oakland-McCrary Cemetery.

Surviving are wife, Sarah Isley Spinks of the home; sons, Bennie Spinks of the home, Walter Spinks of Sanford, Wiley Spinks, James Spinks and Fredrick Covington, all of Asheboro, Avon Spinks of Coleridge and Walter Junior Spinks of Biscoe; daughters, Treva Cross, Evon Cromedy and Sherri Shaw, all of Asheboro, Mary Hubbard of Seagrove and Pamela Nettles of Franklinville; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - The Rev. Robert Douglas "Buck" Shelton, 67, of 4512 New Hope Church Road, Asheboro, died Friday, June 30, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Ulah Church of God, where he was the pastor, with the Rev. Ruby Davis and the Rev. Ray Loftis officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Davie County, retired from Klaussner Furniture and a former pastor of the Biscoe Church of God.

Surviving are wife, Ruth Batten Shelton of the home; daughters, Vicky S. Luck of Asheboro, Susan S. Dorsey of Cedar Falls and Cathy S. Ledwell of San Bernardino, Calif.; sons, the Rev. Ronald D. Shelton and Jerry D. Shelton, both of Asheboro; sisters, Ruby S. Campbell of Candor, Helen S. Campbell of Shallotte and Jean S. Lee of West End; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.
