ASHEBORO - James Boyd Bowman, 60, of 759 Chaney Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Loflin Funeral Home Chapel, Ramseur, with the Rev. Buddy Smith officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Asheboro.

He was a Randolph County native and was employed with Union Carbide in Asheboro.

Surviving are wife, Evelyn Isom Bowman of the home; sons, Kenneth Bowman of Seagrove and Roger Bowman of Farmer; daughter, Cindy Shepherd of Denton; brother, Junior Bowman of Liberty; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Odell E. Haney
THOMASVILLE - Odell Emerson Haney, 84, of 406 Griffith St., Thomasville, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at Community General Hospital, Thomasville.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Ray Whittington officiating.

He was a Guilford County native, retired from Highland Cotton Mill, owner of Haney's Variety Store, widower of Rachel Tomlin Haney and a member of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Frank (Faye) Honeycutt of Franklinville and Dorothy Bradshaw and Carol Parrish, both of Thomasville; son, Garland Haney of the home; brother, Clyde Haney of High Point; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home, Thomasville, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and other times at the home.

Mary S. LaRue
SILER CITY - Mary Jane Brownlee Selig LaRue, 83, of 202 E. 9th St., Siler City, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Piney Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Siler City, with the Rev. Eddie Mishoe officiating.

She was a native of New Jersey, retired from Kellwood and attended Siler City Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Surviving are son, Herbert G. Selig of Siler City; sister, Edith B. Kellman of Hollywood, Fla.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Ave., Siler City, one hour prior to the service.

DENTON - Marvin Homer Varner, 84, of 976 Ridges Mountain Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, July 1, 2000.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Briggs Funeral Home Chapel, Denton. Burial will be in Hughes Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was a Davidson County native, a farmer and a member of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are brother, Luther "Tom" Varner of the home; sister, Lillie Cooper of Thomasville.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday.

Dorothy K. Hughes
CONCORD - Dorothy Mae Kellis Hughes, 76, of 4130 Dakeita Circle, Concord, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at Northeast Medical Center in Concord.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Briggs Candor Funeral Home Chapel, Candor. Burial will be in the Candor Town Cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, a retired secretary and a member of the Presbyterian faith.

Surviving are husband, James C. Hughes of the home; sons, James S. Hughes of Concord and Richard Keith Hughes of Creedmoor; daughter, Delena Ann Rosie of Chesapeake, Va.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Candor Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Berta B. Creech
ASHEBORO - Berta Mae Bullins Creech, 86, formerly of South Cox Street, Asheboro, died Monday, July 3, 2000, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Lee Roy Hunt officiating.

She was the widow of Robert L. Creech Jr., a homemaker and a former employee of McCrary Hosiery Mill.

Surviving are son, Ron Creech of Greensboro and Virginia Beach, Va.; daughter, Rebecca Parks of Charleston, S.C.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home following the service.

RAMSEUR - Joseph Wheeler "J. W" Sweatt, 56, of 960 Pleasant Ridge Church Road, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Kenneth Lee officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery, Wallace, S.C.

He was a native of Richmond County and had been employed with Ramtex.

Surviving are daughters, Susan Carpenter of Martinsville, Va., Barbara Hedrick of Lexington; brother, James Ervin Davis of Lexington; sister, Clara Mae Stubbs of Ramseur; two grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

THOMASVILLE - Joyce Ann Webb Pierce, 66, of Cloniger Drive, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, in Meadow Brook Terrace, Clemmons.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at J. C. Green & Sons Funeral Home, Thomasville, with the Rev. Darrell Rabon officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

She was a native of Rowan County, a retired hosiery worker and attended Bethany Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Vickie House of Pleasant Garden, Rita Kinley of Asheboro; sons, Larry "Tim" Pierce of Mocksville, Danny Pierce of Thomasville; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Louise B. Hearne
CHARLOTTE - Louise Bradshaw Hearne, 89, of 1230 Marlene St., died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at her home.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Biscoe Cemetery, with the Rev. David Beck officiating.

She was a native of Montgomery County and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Sara Wells of Charlotte, Nancy McDorman of Mt. Holly; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 12:30-1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

COATS - Jerry Glyn Williams, 59, of 16 S. Church St., died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at Ashe Memorial Hospital, Jefferson.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rose & Graham Funeral Home, Benson, with the Rev. Ronnie Byrd officiating. Burial will be in the Williams Family Cemetery.

He was a native of Harnett County, retired from Ft. Bragg as a civil service employee in the audio-visual department, was a member of South Erwin Baptist Church, a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of American Legion Banner Post 109.

Surviving are wife, Thelma Coats Williams; daughters, Lisa W. Daughtry of Asheboro, Paula W. Byrd of Coats, Doris W. Howard of Dunn; brother, William Earl Williams of Coats; two granddaughters.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Elese L. Ward
ASHEBORO - Mary Elese Lee Ward, 80, of 2925 Zoo Parkway, Asheboro, died Monday, July 3, 2000, at Carillon Assisted Living of Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Jack Kivett and the Rev. Burton King officiating. Burial will be in Asheboro City Cemetery.

She was a native of Sampson County, the widow of J. B. Ward Jr., the retired co-owner and operator of Ranch House Furniture and was a charter member of The Church of God of Prophecy.

Surviving are stepson, Jerry Ward of Asheboro; brother, Jessie Franklin Lee of Monroe; three stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

James H. Cheek
SILER CITY - James H. "Jim" Cheek, 86, of 607 N. Fourth Ave., died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at SunBridge Care of Siler City.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Corinth A.M.E. Zion Church, with Dr. Sherwin O. Green officiating. Burial will be in Corinth Memorial Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a member of American Legion Post #277 and was retired from Siler City Drug Store after 35 years.

Surviving are sons, Larry Cheek of Siler City, Rodney Cheek of Marietta, Ga.; foster daughter, Annie Ruth Siler of Siler City; sisters, Beatrice Wilkerson and Mahalia Parker, both of Woodbury, N.J., Pauline Hardy of Wilson, Callie Waddell of Sanford, Celia Brown of Coleridge, Sylvinia Herring of Goldsboro, Margaret Edwards of Siler City; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Farrar Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-8 p.m. Wednesday.

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. - Robert L. Ritter, 53, formerly of North Carolina, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, Middletown, N.Y., with the Rev. Donald MacKay officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Middletown.

He was a native of Asheboro.

Surviving are daughter, Christina Dunn of Middletown, N.Y.; brother, Archie Ritter of North Carolina; sisters, Shirley, Brenda, Dottie, Leola and Lillian, all of North Carolina; one grandson.

The family will be at the funeral home 10:30-11:30 a.m. Thursday.

Colon T. Hussey
SEAGROVE - Colon Thomas Hussey, 52, of 7294 Hussey Williams Road, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Riverside Baptist Church, with the Rev. Harold Baker officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County and had previously worked for Luther Brothers Sawmilling.

Surviving are wife, Edith Spencer Hussey of the home; sons, Tommy Hussey of Seagrove, Michael Hussey of Robbins, Mark Hussey of the home; daughter, Tammy Ortiz of Sanford; father, Willie T. Hussey of Seagrove; grandmother, Thelma Davis Staley of Seagrove; sister, Linda Rose of Asheboro; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Joyce-Brady Funeral Home, Bennett, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home of Willie Hussey, 5802 Waddell's Ferry Road, Seagrove, N.C. 27341.

Lillie Davis
JULIAN - Lillie Davis, 81, of 6037 Monnett Road, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, with the Rev, Bill Huffman officiating. Burial will be in Gilmore Memorial Park in Julian.

She was a native of Moore County, the widow of James F. Davis and was a member of Monnett Road Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Annie Belle Law of Climax, Nancy Hodgin of Liberty, Patsy Davis of the home, Bobbie Jean Rickman of Conetoe; son, Buddy Davis of Liberty; sister, Martha Coble of Climax; brothers, Donnie Brown of Pleasant Garden, Bill Brown of Liberty, Jonie Brown of Julian, Marvin Brown of Asheboro; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

McNeill, both of Biscoe, Betty Vernon of Reidsville; brothers, Bobby Frick of Star, Jackie Frick of Biscoe, James Frick of Troy; stepson, Sean Blackwell of Madisonville, Texas; three grandchildren.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Eddie Tom Horton of Philadelphia, Pa., died Friday, June 30, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Missionary Baptist Church in Siler City. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Surviving are mother, Edna Horton; brothers, Harry Joe Horton and Dwain Horton, both of Philadelphia, Pa., Aldine Horton of Raleigh; sisters, Mildred Brown of Chapel Hill, Linda Ezzell of Hampton, Va., Bertina Baldwin of Carrboro.

The family will be at the church 10-11 a.m. Saturday.

SOPHIA - Frances Farlow Bowers, 79, of 2057 Beckerdite Road, Sophia, died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at her home.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday in the Marlboro Friends Meeting Cemetery.

She was a Randolph County native, a homemaker and attended Jamestown Friends Meeting.

Surviving are husband, William Ford Bowers of the home; brother, J. Binford Farlow of Sophia.

The family will be at the Marlboro Friends Family Life Center following the service.

Littleton Williamson
BURLINGTON - Littleton "Plum" Williamson, 74, of Mount Vernon, N.Y., died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 8 p.m. Tuesday at Morganton Baptist Church in Burlington, where he was once a member, with the Rev. Steven Clay and the Rev. Thomas Miles officiating. Burial will be on Wednesday morning at Sweet Gum Baptist Church cemetery in Caswell County.

He was a native of Alamance County and employed with the Mount Vernon Police Department, Mount Vernon, N.Y.

Surviving are daughters, Lena L.W. Baynes and Theresa A. Williamson, both of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; son, Frank L. Williamson of Albany, Ga.; six grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 7-8 p.m. on Tuesday, prior to the services.

C.C. Hodges Funeral Service in Asheboro is in charge of the arrangements.

CAMERON - Elaine H. Rogers, 73, of 4370 Page Store Road, died Friday, July 7, 2000, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Union Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. William A. Stewart Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Durham County and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Don Rogers; sons, Greg Rogers of Cameron, Steve Rogers of Winston-Salem, Chris Rogers and Dale Rogers, both of Carthage; brother, Johnny Hicks of Durham; sisters, Emma Lou Couch, Polly Salmon, Ronda Gale Holder, all of Durham, Rose Mae Lassiter and Daphine Perguson, both of Creedmore; five grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home in Carthage 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday.
