LEXINGTON - Rea LaVon Michael, 64, of Asheboro Rehabilitation Care Center, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at the Center in Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington. Burial will be in Forest Hill Memorial Park.

He was a native of Davidson County, retired from Clodfelter Concrete Co., was a member of Paul's Chapel United Church of Christ and was a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Gladys Lyons Michael of the home; son, Eric Rea Michael of Lexington; daughter, Toni Elizabeth Seawell of Winston-Salem; stepson, Chip McNeil of Asheboro; stepdaughter, Diane Hicks of Ramseur; brother, Allison Sherril Michael of Raleigh; five grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Ronald E. Sapp
CARTHAGE - Ronald Eugene Sapp, 64, of 154 Tillman Road, died Monday, July 17, 2000, at SunBridge Care Facilities, Siler City.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cool Springs United Methodist Church, Carthage, where he was a member, with the Rev. Gerald Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Forsyth County, a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and a retired maintenance supervisor with Performance Cast Parts, Sanford.

Surviving are wife, Ruth Phillips Sapp of Carthage; son, Michael B. Sapp of Mebane; daughters, Pamela S. Whitaker of Carthage, Kimberly S. Coyle of Fayetteville; sister, Phyllis S. Branch of Lexington; brother, Phillip Newsom of High Point; stepfather, Paul Newsom of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren.

ELLERBE - Blonde Warner Craven, 102, of 881 Capel Mill Road, died Monday, July 17, 2000, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Carter Funeral Home, Ellerbe, with the Rev. Edsel Huffstetler officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church cemetery.

She was a native of Richmond County, the widow of Walter H. Craven, a homemaker and a member of Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are son, Edward Craven of Norman; daughters, Jewel Henley and Eula Brown of Asheboro, Hazel Petty of Norman, Alma Ligon of San Luis Obispo, Calif., Grace Robinson of Candor, Fay Mclntosh of Charlotte, Carol Friz of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., Betsy Brewer of Boynton Beach, Fla.; brother, Dosie Warner of Richfield; sister, Cleo Comer of Ellerbe; 31 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

EAGLE SPRINGS - Matthew Kyle Sullivan, 3, of 248 Will Road, died Monday, July 17, 2000, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Dover Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Clyde Allen officiating.

Surviving are father, Richard Sullivan of Eagle Springs; mother, Mary A. Sullivan of Eagle Springs; sister, Mary B. Sullivan of Eagle Springs; brother, Richard L. Sullivan of Eagle Springs; grandparents, Becky Hogan of Seagrove, LeRoss Sullivan of Robbins, Virginia Turner of Newport News, Va.; step-grandfather, Robert Hogan of Seagrove; great-grandparents, Lottie Spivey and Jesse Spivey, both of Statesville.

GOLDSTON - Wilton Oldham, 82, of 437 Wall Road, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Antioch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ken Harris and the Rev. Rufus Culler officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, attended Antioch Baptist Church and was a retired farmer.

Surviving are wife, Josie Fields Oldham of Goldston; daughter, Brenda O. Williamson of Goldston; one granddaughter; two great-grandchildren.

She had worked in Cameron Village retail for many years and was a member of St. John's Baptist Church.

Surviving are husband, William W. Duncan; daughter, Beverly Duncan-Midgett of Sylva; sons, Robert W. Duncan of Apex, Darryl L. Duncan of Cary; brother, Raeford Lucas of Seagrove; sisters, Jean Hultman of Durham, Garnett Brock of Seagrove; six grandchildren.

She was the widow of H.J. King, a member of Florida Street Baptist Church, a member of the Ozment Sunday School Class, a former member of the 60 + Club and was employed at Blue Bell for 18 years.

Surviving are daughter, Dottie King of the home; son, Joe King of Randleman; sister, Blanche Ballard of Cherryville; two grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, with the Rev. Mark Sink officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and the widow of Bun Breedlove.

Surviving are daughter, Faye B. Holt of Liberty; sisters, Flossie Shaw of Burlington, Bernice Farrell of Mebane, Mary Etta Staley of Siler City; brothers, Clyde Kime of Liberty, W. C. Kime of Julian; one grandson; one great-granddaughter.

ROBBINS - Jesse Leonard Garner, 73, of 672 Hemp St. Ext., died Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Elise Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Ernest Moore officiating. Burial will be in Brown's Chapel Christian Church Cemetery with Masonic rites.

He was a native of Moore County, a retired employee of Robbins Mills and was a member of Elise Lodge #555 AF & AM.

Surviving are wife, Lucy Burton Garner; sons, Jesse Garner Jr. and Wayne Garner, both of Greensboro, Darrell V. Garner of Robbins, Randall K. Garner of Wilmington, Jeffrey S. Garner of Clayton, Matthew B. Garner of the home; daughters, Betty G. Butler of Petersburg, Va., Susan G. Smith of Greensboro; sisters, Maggie Woodell and Lucille Carter, both of Robbins; brothers, Newby Garner of Carthage, Quimby Garner and Edward Garner, both of Robbins, Laney Garner Jr. of High Falls, Winford Garner of Michigan; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Donald R. Thompson
ASHEBORO - Donald Ray "Whitey" Thompson, 56, of 1742 Randall St., Asheboro, died Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at Vencor Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Barry Lemons and Gene Bumgarner officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Asheboro, retired from the U.S Postal Service, a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the American Legion.

Surviving are wife, Betty Jo Dixon Thompson; son, Anthony Ray "Tony" Thompson of Asheboro; sister, Ann Thompson Jester of Asheboro; brother, Dwight Thompson of Level Cross.

The family will be at the home of Mary Frances Dixon, 1548 Thornsdale Drive, Asheboro.

Rev. Max L. Tussey
LEXINGTON - Rev. Max Lafayette Tussey, 69, of Old N.C. 64 West, died Thursday, July 20, 2000, at Lexington Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Reformed United Church of Christ, where he was a member, with the Rev. Mike Hooper officiating. Burial will be in Beulah United Church of Christ Cemetery.

He was a native of Davidson County, a graduate of Catawba College and Lancaster Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity and he served at Spoons Chapel UCC in Asheboro, Heidelberg UCC in Thomasville and at many other churches.

Surviving are wife, Rita Clark Tussey of the home; son, Stephen Tussey of Suwanee, Ga.; daughters, Lynne Johnson of Lexington, Lori Tussey of Raleigh; one grandchild.

The family will be at the church 1-2 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

ASHEBORO - Daphnie Watkins McGee of 304 Harrison St., Asheboro, died Friday, July 21, 2000, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Monday at St. Luke United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. James A. Curry officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, a homemaker, a member of the United Methodist Women, the senior choir, and the Parsonage committee at her church, and was a charter member of the Gladiola Garden Club.

Surviving are husband, Harrison McGee of Asheboro; foster daughter, Fonda McSwain of Sanford; one foster grandson; four foster great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church one hour prior to the service, other times at the home.

J. Wesley Davis
DENTON - John Wesley Davis, 76, of 105 Fairview St., Chester, S.C., formerly of Denton, died Saturday, July 22, 2000, at Mt. Vista Health Care, Denton.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Bethel United Methodist Church, Chester, S.C., where he was a member, with the Rev. John N. Williams and the Rev. William Kinnick officiating. Burial will be 6 p.m. Monday at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery, Denton.

He was a native of Randolph County, had been employed with Belk for 50 years and was a former manager in Chester, S.C., and an associate with Belk in Asheboro and Pittsboro. He was a former member of the administrative board and the chancel choir at his church, and a former president of the Chester Ministerial Association and the Chester Mall Merchants Association. He was a former member of the Jaycees, was nominated Boss of the Year in 1974 and was also a member of the Exchange Club, American Legion, Arts Council, Chester County Library Board, United Fund, Spring Golden Age Club and a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of the Moose. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran where he received the Presidential Distinguished citation, the French Croix de Guerre and the French Soldier Medal.

Surviving are sisters, Alene D. Surratt of Denton, Anna Bell D. Seymore of Sanford.

The family will be at Barron Funeral Home, Chester, S.C. 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

She was a native of Stokes County, a homemaker and had worked with the children at her church for 30 years.

Surviving are husband, Henry D. Jones of Siler City; sons, Jimmy S. Jones of Pleasant Garden, Larry D. Jones of Greensboro; sisters, Alta Justice and Virginia Hudson, both of Siler City; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Chatham County, a member of the Missionary Circle, Sunday School and a Deaconess at her church and was a member of Morning Star Lodge # 594.

Surviving are sons, Oather M. Jones of Baltimore, Md., Wallace Jones of Goldston, Flynn M. Jones of Long Island, N.Y.; daughters, Gleanor Carrington of Peekskill, N.Y., L. Imogene Tyson of Milton, Mass., Mavis J. Edwards of Phoenix, Ariz.; brothers, J. Grady Bynum, Grafton Bynum, Sinclair Bynum, all of Peekskill, N.Y., Millard Bynum of Sun City, Ariz.; sister, Armental Greene of Peekskill, N.Y.; 39 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 10-11 a.m. Monday.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. J. Nathan King officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and retired from Eastern Airlines after 32 years.

Surviving is mother, Eula Loflin of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Rev. Neil L. Stein
ASHEBORO - Rev. Neil Leslie Stein, 65, of 524 Shamrock Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, July 22, 2000, at Duke University Medical Center, Durham.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church.

He was the widower of Carolyn Cagle Stein, was a retired United Methodist Minister were he served in the Missouri East Conference for 36 years, and was a member of the World Methodist Council and the General Board of Church and Society.

Surviving are sons, Rev. John C. Stein of Cherryville, Thomas C. Stein of St. Charles, Mo.; daughter, Catherine C. Stein of Graham; four grandchildren.

The family will be at the church following the service.

TROY - Ila Wood Reynolds, 97, of 207 N. Main St., died Sunday, July 23, 2000, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Michael H. Elliott and Dr. Clyde G. McArver officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery.

She was a native of Farmer, the widow of Eugene T. Reynolds, with whom she operated Troy Furniture Company and Troy Funeral Home, a graduate of East Carolina Teachers College (East Carolina University) and was a teacher in Ellerbe, Asheboro, and Troy. She was chairperson of the nursery department, a children's Sunday School teacher, a member of the Ladies Bible Class, the XYZ Club and Circle No. 1 at her church. She was a former president of the Troy Child Study Club, and was named a Woman of the Year by the Montgomery County Democratic Women.

Surviving are daughter, Doris R. Edwards of Charlotte; sister, Frances W. Williams of Wilkesboro; two grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Monday.
