ASHEBORO - Johnny Hubert Presnell, 55, of 436 Back Creek Church Road, Asheboro, died Monday, July 31, 2000, at his home.

Graveside service will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Back Creek Friends Meeting Cemetery, with the Rev. David Wayne Lambeth officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a retired painter and dry wall installer and served in the National Guard.

Surviving are wife, Verlie Presnell of the home; daughter, Wendy P. Shaefer of Asheboro; son, John Lindsay Presnell of Asheboro; sister, Phyllis Jean Presnell of Franklinville; brothers, Rodney Allen Presnell, Brian Edward Presnell, Phillip Dean Presnell, all of Asheboro, Freddie Presnell of Robbins; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of the daughter, 424 Back Creek Church Road, Asheboro.

Eula F. Dunn
RAMSEUR - Eula Fultz Dunn, 93, of 961 Ramseur-Julian Road, died Monday, July 31, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Gary Moger officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Knoll Cemetery.

She was a native of Yadkin County, the widow of William Arron Dunn, a homemaker and a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, William W. Dunn of Asheboro, Paul Dunn of Franklinville; daughters, Alice Brown of Ramseur, Irene Berrier of Lexington; brother, Watson G. Fultz of Winston-Salem; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Paul Dunn, 192 Allred St., Franklinville.

WINSTON-SALEM - Barbara Glover, 50, died Sunday, July 30, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Asheboro.

Surviving are daughter, Nora Glover of the home; son, Donald Glover of Youngstown, Ohio; mother, Pastor N.L. Femister of Asheboro; sister, Billie Lowery of Asheboro; nine grandchildren.

Woodard Funeral Home, Greensboro, is in charge of the arrangements.

Esther C. Gallimore
DENTON - Esther Cooper Gallimore, 89, of Mountain Vista Health Park, formerly of Bombay Road, Denton, died Monday, July 31, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Siloam United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Sandy Young officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and the widow of T. Moody Gallimore. She was retired from Denton Hosiery and was in the MYF and was a Sunday School teacher at her church.

Surviving are sons, Dwight Gallimore of Denton, Jerry Gallimore of Thomasville; daughters, Imogene Hardister of Troy, Nancy Harris of Denton, Ann Smith of Lexington; brothers, Roy Cooper of Randleman, David Cooper Jr. of Asheboro; sister, Theresa Courtoy of Randleman; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Nancy Harris, 1825 Farmer Road, Denton.

EAGLE SPRINGS - Sadie Allred East, 76, of 16276 N.C. 24-27, died Monday, July 31, 2000, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Browns Chapel Christian Church, with the Rev. Brady Stevens and the Rev. Gary Waisner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She is the widow of Lawrence Weaver East.

Surviving are daughter, Donna S. King of Troy; sons, Curnie G. Sanders and Stoney G. Sanders, both of Eagle Springs, Danny L. Sanders of Mt. Gilead, Edwin D. Sanders, Gerald W. Sanders, both of Seagrove, Steve L. Sanders of Randleman; brothers, Harold Allred and Howard Allred, both of Spies; sisters, Faye Brewer and Loretta Moore, both of Spies; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.

STAR - Leroy Singletary, 86, of 327 Freeman St., died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, at Norman Rest Home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, Star. Burial will be in Browns Chapel Christian Church Cemetery.

Surviving are daughters, Royaline Davis of Seagrove, Mary A. Maness of Robbins, Emily Turner of Star; son, Walker Singletary of Seagrove; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Claude W. Overman
MOUNT OLIVE - Claude William Overman, 88, of 3508 N.C. 55 West, died Monday, July 31, 2000, at SunBridge Care Center.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Brownings United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Neal Wingfield and the Rev. Bob Hovey officiating. Burial will be in Wayne Memorial Park.

He was a retired farmer.

Surviving are wife, Minnie McCullen Overman; daughter, Marlene Wooten of Asheboro; son, Newlon Overman of Goldsboro; sisters, Norma King and Otis George, both of Durham; brothers, Bill Overman and Dale Overman, both of Kernersville, Mack Overman of Durham; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at the church one hour prior to the service.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Brown's Chapel Christian Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Gary Waisner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, a retired lumberman and farmer and was a member of Elise Masonic Lodge #555 AF & AM.

Surviving are wife, Ardena Sanders Lewis; daughters, Ruby B. Brown of Pensacola, Fla., Anise B. Castleberry of Alpharetta, Ga., Mennie B. Ritter and Virginia B. Montjoy, both of Robbins; son, James F. Burns of Carrollton, Ga.; brothers, Edgar B. Lewis of Sanford, Alexander Ray Lewis of Charlotte, Colon Worth Lewis of Eagle Springs; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Gene Russell
WEST END - Ronald Eugene "Gene" Russell, 56, of 300 Edgewood Terrace, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of West End, with the Rev. Luke McKay officiating. Burial will be in West End Cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County and was employed with Eaton Corp. in Laurinburg.

Surviving are Sue Russell of the home; stepsons, Andy Morris of Raeford, Kelly Morris of Holly Springs; daughter, Suzanne Woodard of Wilmington; stepdaughters, Sue Ellen Allred of Carthage, Christy Russell of the home; brothers, Horace Russell of West End, Jackie Russell of Southern Pines, Reece Russell of Candor; nine grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Candor Funeral Home, Candor, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

Paul S. Kennedy
SANFORD - Rev. Paul S. Kennedy, 72, of 2110 Knollwood Drive, died Monday, July 31, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service was 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sanford Church of God, with the Rev. Eugene Powers officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Center United Methodist Church Cemetery, Sanford.

He was a native of Smith County, Miss.

Surviving are wife, Doris Escoe Kennedy; sons, Rev. Paul Stanley Kennedy of Florence, S.C., Keith Escoe Kennedy of Magee, Miss., Frank Thomas of Jakarta, Indonesia; daughter, Karen K. Shackelford of Sanford; brothers, J.B. Kennedy and Glen Kennedy, both of Magee, Miss.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Virginia S. Smith
ASHEBORO - Virginia Scott Smith, 75, of 660 Hawthorne Drive, Asheboro, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. David Ingersoll and the Rev. Mark C. Beane officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Christian Church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, retired from Pinehurst Textiles, was the last living charter member of Foster Street Wesleyan Church where she was also a former treasurer and Sunday school teacher.

Surviving are husband, John F. Smith of Asheboro; daughter, Shirley S. Jakeman of Charlotte; sisters, Ruth Cox, Dottie Roberts, both of Ramseur, Miriam Caudle of Kernersville, Gladys Ann Burroughs of Albemarle; brothers, Maurice Scott of Winston-Salem, and Bob Scott.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Charles R. Richardson
SEAGROVE - Charles Reid Richardson, 78, of 157 N. Broad St., died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, at his home.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Seagrove United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Fran Moran and the Rev. Lee Roy Hunt officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County, a retired insurance salesman for Liberty Life Insurance Co. and Pugh Funeral Home, and a former two-term mayor of Seagrove. He operated Seagrove Roller Mill, Seagrove Gulf Station and was a co-owner of Seagrove Drag Strip.

Surviving are daughters, Betty Richardson, Ann Norris, Pat Floyd, Lisa Hill, all of Seagrove; sister, Carolyn Wheaton of Leesburg, Fla.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church immediately following the service, other times at the home.

Gladys F. McLeod
STAR - Gladys Freeman McLeod, 68, of 4482 N.C. 134, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, at her home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Center Cross Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Richard Fisher officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, retired from First National Bank and was a member of the board of trustees at her church.

Surviving are sons, Dave McLeod Jr. of Star, Michael D. McLeod of Asheboro; sisters, Mamie Hare and Nellie Bean, both of Seagrove, Lee B. Freeman, Stacy Cornellson, Conie King, Mildred Chriscoe, Rachel Smith, all of Asheboro; brothers, Joe G. Freeman, Dempsey Freeman, Wesley Freeman, all of Asheboro; five grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

Virginia B. Vestal
SILER CITY - Virginia "Jenny" Bray Vestal, 60, of 1205 Moon's Chapel Church Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Moon's Chapel Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Scott Faw officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, a member the #9 Adult Sunday school class and was retired from Glendale Hosiery, Siler City.

Surviving are husband, David Vestal Jr. of Siler City; sons, Carl Vestal of Manteo, Daniel Vestal of Ramseur; mother, Edith Page Bray of Bear Creek; sister, Linda B. Brooks of Bear Creek; brothers, Charles Edward Bray and Billy Joe Bray, both of Bear Creek; two granddaughters.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

ASHEBORO - Merlene Hemphill Southern, 86, of 5781 Ridge Road, Seagrove, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at her home.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Kelly Shiflett officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was the widow of both James E. Hemphill and Lester P. Southern, a member of Seagrove Christian Church and was retired from Smart Style Inc.

Surviving are daughter, Patty H. Sykes of Randleman; stepdaughter, Elaine Southern of the home; stepson, Lewis Southern of Asheboro; brothers, Sherman Hancock of High Point, Joe Hancock of Bryson City; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

J.C. Stutts
ASHEBORO - James Carlton "J.C." Stutts, 68, of 1729 Zoo Parkway, Asheboro, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Carl Zeigler and the Rev. J.B. Stutts officiating. Burial will be in Back Creek Friends Meeting Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a U.S. Army veteran and a member of West Asheboro Baptist Church.

Surviving are wife, Joanne Poole Stutts; brother, Tommy Stutts of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

RANDLEMAN - Wilmer Ray Carter, 64, of 210 E. Naomi St., died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at his home.

He was a native of Guilford County, retired from Griffin Upholstery in High Point and was a member of New Beginning Pentecostal Church in Asheboro.

Surviving are wife, Naomi Odom Carter of Randleman; sons, Tim Carter, Mark Carter, Aaron Carter, all of Randleman, Steven Carter and Philip Carter, both of Asheboro; brothers, Roy Carter Jr. of Richmond, Va., Jerry Carter, James Carter and Bobby R. Carter, both of Trinity; sisters, Mary McMahan of Trinity, Rebecca A. Phillips of Sophia; five grandchildren.

Rev. Bradford W. Burris
TROY - The Rev. Bradford Wayne Burris, 47, of 622 River Road, Mt. Gilead, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Sweet Home Baptist Church, Albemarle, with the Rev. Toney Parsons and the Rev. Charles Bowers officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery, Troy.

He was a member and former pastor of Prospect Baptist Church, a member of the Uwharrie Bass Club and a sub-contractor.

Surviving are wife, Ann Moore Burris of the home; daughters, Brandy Burris and Stacey Burris, both of the home; mother, Opal Burris of Mt. Gilead; brother, Gary Burris of Mt. Gilead; sisters, Janell Cranford, Lois Morgan, Judy Vanhoy, all of Troy, Elaine Thomas of Polkton, Sue Griffin of Locust, Jan Abraham of Gainesville, Ga.
