Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Gospel Chapel, with the Rev. Donald Maconaghie officiating. Burial will be in Cross Hill Cemetery.
He was a native of Moore County and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are wife, Virginia C. Tyson; daughter, Marcia Kelly of Carthage; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - Jimmy Ray Kearns, 60, of 1793 Star Gazer Drive, Asheboro, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at Providence Hospital, Columbia, S.C.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Andy Scott officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.
A native of Randolph County and a truck driver, he attended Farmer School and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are daughters, Ruth Ann Kearns of Seagrove, Tammy Kearns of Asheboro; stepdaughters, Tammy Pugh and Kim Pugh, both of Asheboro; sisters, Susie Register of Wilmington, Betty K. Kearns of Asheboro; brothers, Hollis E. Kearns, Hollie Dean Kearns, Walton Lee Kearns, all of Asheboro; four grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Hollis Kearns, 1775 Callicutt Henley Road, Asheboro.

TROY - John Scarlett, 89, of 208 Bruton St., died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

He was a native of Blairstown, N.J., a member of Trinity UMC and a retired civil service employee.

CARTHAGE - Donald Edward Hendren, 68, of McCrary Road, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at his home.

He was a native of Moore County, the widower of Mary Anne Sellers Hendren and a retired educator.

CAMERON - John Monroe McPherson, 71, of 2915 N.C. 24-27, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

He was a native of Moore County, a Korean War veteran and was a retired employee of Heins Telephone Co. in Sanford.

HARRISONBURG, Va. - Frances L. Hartman, 84, of 1501 Virginia Ave., died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at Avante Nursing Facility, Harrisonburg, Va.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home, Bloomsburg, Pa., with the Rev. David J. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge, Pa.
She was a native of Ross Township, Luzerne County, Pa., the widow of Ralph B. Hartman, and was formerly of Asheboro, where she had been employed with Pinehurst Textiles as a seamstress. She had been previously employed with Milco Industries Inc. in Bloomsburg, Pa., for 20 years, was a member of Valley Church of Christ, Harrisonburg, Va., and had been a member of First Church of Christ in Bloomsburg.
Surviving are sons, George E. Hartman of Horsham, Pa., Garry E. Hartman of Bloomsburg, Pa.; daughters, Darla E. Schatz of Asheboro, Doris E. Fisher of Summerville, S.C.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.

GREENSBORO - Wilbur Dewey Petree, 77, of 1316-D Piedmont Parkway, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at Piedmont Christian Home.

He was a native of Davidson County, the widower of Thelma Mae Grubb Petree and retired from the construction industry. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and was a member of Clarksbury United Methodist Church and the H.M. Fritts Bible Class.
Surviving are daughter, Rhonda P. Byrne of Greensboro; son, Dewey Anthony Petree of Portland, Ore.; sister, Dolores P. Lambeth of Asheboro; brother, Joe D. Lambeth of Dayton, Ohio; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

He was a native of Surry County, a retired farmer and carpenter and was a member of Smithwood United Church of Christ.
Surviving are wife, Mattie P. Wall Simmons of the home; daughter, Carroll Simmons of Liberty; son, Bobby R. Simmons of Ararat; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter.

She was a homemaker and the widow of John Gainey Britt Sr.

RAVENSWOOD, W.Va. - Juanita Epling, 67, of Ravenswood, W.Va., died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Second Baptist Church, Ravenswood.
She was a native of Duncan, W.Va.
Surviving are husband, Ray Epling; daughters, Sheryl Pritchard of Randleman, Brenda Bunner of Greer, S.C.; son, Ronald Epling of Easley, S.C.; mother, Lurleen Hill of Sandyville, W.Va.; brothers, Keith Hill and Ronald Hill; seven grandchildren.

She was a native of Guilford County, employed as office manager of Hickory Bedding, Inc., was a member of Welch Memorial United Methodist Church and she was married to Jeffrey Dwayne Fleming.
Surviving are daughter, Megan Elizabeth Fleming of the home; brother, Michael Wayne Richardson of Randleman; parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. Wayne Richardson of Randleman; grandparents, Harold and Helen Richardson of Randleman, Robert and Mary McDonald of Martinsville, Va.

RAMSEUR - June Lambert Beane, 83, of Asheboro Health and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Ramseur, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral service will be 1l a.m. Wednesday at Jordan Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Justus McKeel and the Rev. Mary Miller officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Knoll Cemetery.
He was a native of Randolph County, a member and past president of the Ramseur Lion's Club, a 1938 graduate of High Point University and was a chairman of the Piedmont Triad Local Government. He was a chairman of the administrative board and a Sunday School teacher at his church, had served on the Ramseur Town Board and was town mayor for 20 years. He was retired from the NC State Government Flood Insurance Program where he was a project coordinator and was an assistant vice president for Harrelson Rubber Company.
Surviving are daughter, Priscilla Dye of Charlotte; brother, Robert E. Beane of Asheboro; one grandson.
The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

She was a native of Randolph County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a graduate of Catholic University and of the University of Virginia School of Nursing, had been the owner and operator of Rolling Hills Nursing Home and was a member of the Arabian Horse Association.
Surviving are sister, Anna Belle Teague of Asheboro; one granddaughter; four great-grandchildren.
