James W. "Bill" Brooks, 80, of 1802 Grantfield Road, Asheboro, died Monday, March 23, 1998, at the Brian Center Health & Rehabilitation.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Smith and Buckner Chapel, with the Rev. James Turner and the Rev. Doug Cooke officiating. Burial will be in Parks Cross Roads Christian Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, retired from Carolina Stock Yard Co., an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Parks Cross Roads Christian Church.

Surviving are former wife, Mollie Hardie Brooks; sons, James Ronnie Brooks and Mickey Brooks, both of Asheboro; stepdaughters, Linda B. Bowman and Mabel Todd, both of Siler City; stepson, Ted Causey of Siler City; brothers, John R. Brooks of Ramseur and Bob Brooks of Siler City; stepbrother, Joe Caviness of Bear Creek; sisters, Ethel Cooper and Emma Jean Phillips, both of Siler City, and Frances Spivey of Bear Creek; five grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

James L. Alexander

CARTHAGE - James L. Alexander, 61, formerly of Cameron, died Tuesday, March 28, 1998, at Pinelake Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ernest L. Johnson officiating.

He was a native of Chatham County and a veteran of the National Guard.

Surviving are wife, Betty H. Alexander of West End; daughter, Abigail Baughn of Carthage; sons, Kenneth L. Alexander of Vass and Michael B. Alexander of West End.

The family will be at Fry-Prickett Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. Thursday and other times at the residence of Randy and Abigail Baughn, 333 Baughn Trail, Carthage.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 3109 Poplarwood Court, Suite 125, Raleigh, N.C. 27604-1043.

Curtis G. Dodson

LIBERTY - Curtis G. Dodson, of 7852 Old Liberty Road, died Tuesday, March 24, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Loflin Funeral Home in Liberty.

Billy R. Gardner Jr.

LEXINGTON - Billy Ray Gardner Jr., 56, of 29 Old N.C. 109, died Saturday, March 21, 1998, at Lexington Memorial Hospital.

No services will be held.

He was a native of Troy and a brick mason for 40 years.

Surviving are daughter, Teresa Gardner Smith of Asheboro; son, Jason Gardner of Peoria, Ill.; sisters, Annie Davis and Katie Surratt, both of Asheboro; brothers, Clyde Gardner of Thomasville and Darrell Gardner of Salisbury; two grandchildren.

The family will be at the home of Teresa Smith, 934 N. Park Drive, Asheboro, 5-7 p.m. Wednesday.

Pugh Funeral Home Asheboro is in charge of arrangements.

Charlie T. Poole

LIBERTY - Charlie Tate Poole, 87, of 234 W. Brower Ave., died Tuesday, March 24, 1998, at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel in Liberty. Burial will be in Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired from Stout Chair Co. in Liberty, and the widower of Ruth Poole.

Surviving are daughter, Mary Langley of Liberty; son, Charlie T. Poole of Siler City; stepsons, Jerry Godwin of Burlington and Ricky Godwin of Liberty; brother, Leroy Poole of Staley; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and other times at the residence of his son, Charlie Poole, 110 White Oak Drive, Siler City.

Foy Russell

DENTON - James Foy Russell, 60, of Varner Street, died Tuesday, March 24, 1998, at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton.

Wanda C. Hall
Wanda Christine Hall, 49, of 643 W. Mine St., Asheboro, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Oakhurst Baptist Church, where she was a member, with Dr. Richard Crider officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Asheboro and was employed with K-Mart.

Surviving are mother, Irene Smith Hall of Asheboro; brothers, Kerry D. Hall of Asheboro, Bob R. Hall of Leavenworth, Kan.; sister, Teresa H. Salley of Asheboro.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Samuel N. Allen Jr.

Samuel N. Allen Jr., 72, of 932 Mark Ave., Asheboro, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998, at Clapps Convalescent Nursing Home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Arnold Luther officiating. Burial will be in Callicutt Memorial Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a semi-retired property appraiser and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are sister, Doris Rake of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; brothers, Wayman P. Allen of Burnsville, William H. Allen of Surfside Beach, S.C., Dr. Harvey A. Allen of Columbia, S.C.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Leon Sanders

Leon Sanders, 75, of 6610 Cove Creek Drive, Charlotte, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998, at University Hospital, Charlotte.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Asheboro, a 1939 graduate of Asheboro High School, was in the insurance business for over 46 years and was a former president and founder of Insurance Auditors Association of North Carolina, was currently employed with Choice Point Insurance Company and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran that received two Bronze Service Stars.

Surviving are wife, Gloria R. Sanders of Charlotte; daughters, Cynthia Moody of Charlotte, Gloria Williams of Mountain City, Tenn.; brother, William E. Sanders of Greensboro; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 12:30-1:30 p.m. Friday.

Carrie M. Robinson

Carrie McCoy Robinson, 87, of 430 Glovinia St., Asheboro, died Sunday, March 22, 1998, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at C.C. Hodges Funeral Home, Asheboro. Burial will be in Mt. Calvery Cemetery.

She was a native of Chesterfield County, S.C., and a homemaker.

Surviving are sons, James McCoy of the home, Isaac McCoy of Rochester, N.Y.; sisters, Aggie Townsend of Cheraw, S.C., Virginia McLaurin, Leonie Thomas, both of Washington, D.C.; four grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 1:30-2 p.m. Friday.

Blanch Harris, 84, died Thursday, March 26, 1998, at Brian Center Health & Rehabilitation, Asheboro.

Curtis G. Dodson

LIBERTY - Curtis G. Dodson, 82, of 7852 Old Liberty Road, died Tuesday, March 24, 1998, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Sandy Creek Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Dr. Carl Garner, the Rev. Williams and the Rev. Cain officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Stokes County and a deacon at his church.

Surviving are wife, Mildred Dodson of the home; daughter, Phyllis Dodson Lawrence of Seagrove; son, Geary C. Dodson of Liberty; sisters, Odell Peay of Madison, Gracie Amos of Sandy Ridge; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

PINEHURST - Hobert Earl Williams Sr., 63, of 284 McDairmid Road, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Harold T. Wood

DENTON - Harold Townsend Wood, 83, of 293 H.B. Newsome Place, died Monday, March 23, 1998, at James A. Johnson Nursing Center, High Point.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mark Andrews officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Louisville, Ky., a mechanical engineer and the widower of Florence Van Cleve Wood.

Surviving are sons, Brian Wood of Illinois, Harold D. Wood of Denton; daughter, Helen Gordon of California.

Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, is in charge of arrangements.

Foy Russell

He was a native of Davidson County, a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and the owner/operator of Foy's Car Clean up and Service.

Surviving are wife, Sylvia Morris Russell of the home; sons, Drake Russell of Denton, Garrison Russell of the home; daughter, Cheree R. Loflin of Denton.

Memorials may be made to an organization of the donor's choice.

Leon Sanders, 75, of 6610 Cove Creek Drive, Charlotte, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998, at University Hospital, Charlotte.

Funeral service was 2 p.m. Friday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Surviving are wife, Gloria R. Sanders of Charlotte; daughters, Cynthia Moody of Charlotte, Gloria Williams of Mountain City, Tenn.; brother, William E. Sanders of Greensboro; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Helen B. Carter

Helen Elizabeth Beck Carter, 72, of 1314 W. Lake Drive, Asheboro, died Thursday, March 26, 1998, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Michael Jordan officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Davidson County, a former office nurse and was the organizer and a teacher at First Presbyterian Church kindergarten. She was a member of the Randolph Rose Society, the American Rose Society and First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are husband, Leo H. Carter; daughter, Cathy C. Clark of Asheboro; son, Alan H. Carter of Raleigh; sisters, Imogene Posey of Huntingtown, Md., Lavrastine Bodenheimer of High Point, Willa Mae Lohr of Asheville; one granddaughter.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Friday.

J. Cruz Posadas-Mata

J. Cruz Ramiro Posadas-Mata, 24, of 2275 Royal Drive, Randleman, died Tuesday, March 24, 1998, in Randleman.

A prayer service will be held during the visitation. Burial will be in San Luis Potosi, S L P. Mexico.

He was a native of Mexico and employed with Maze Builders.

Surviving are fiancˇe, Beth Martinez of Randleman; mother, Josefina Mata of San Luis Potosi, S L P, Mexico; father, Erasmo Posadas of San Luis Potosi, S L P, Mexico; brother, Jose Manuel Posadas of Randleman; sister, Gloria Posadas of Randleman.

H. Harold Hogan

Hubert Harold Hogan, 74, of 922 Meadowbrook Road, Asheboro, died Friday, March 27, 1998, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Jay A. Hobbs officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, retired from the Internal Revenue Service, a member of Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, a graduate of Guilford College and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are daughter, Emma Jean Frassrand of Wilmington; son, Harry Ronald Hogan of Federal Way, Wash.; sisters, Elta Lee Hogan of Asheboro, Mary Ann Yow of Sanford; brother, Earl "Pete" Hogan of Asheboro; three grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home of the brother, 328 Ross St.

He was a native of Montgomery County and a retiree of Springs Mills, Biscoe.

Hobert E. Williams

PINEHURST - Hobert Earl Williams, 63, of 284 McDairmid Road, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Crossroads Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mike Holyfield officiating. Burial will be in Pine Rest Cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, a graduate of N.C. State University, former teacher in Pinehurst and retired as an assistant principal at Eastway Junior High in Charlotte. He was a member of the Charlotte Optimist Club and Lions Club and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are wife, Mary Furlong Williams; sons, Hobert E. Williams Jr., Stephen J. Williams, both of Pinehurst; mother, Bonnie H. Williams of Eagle Springs; sisters, Muriel W. Scott, Jean W. Stewart, both of Eagle Springs; brothers, Farrell Williams, Harold Williams, Jerry Williams, all of Eagle Springs; one grandson.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Friday.
