HIGH POINT - Agnes B. Matthews, 92, formerly of Camden Avenue, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at High Point Care Center.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Haizlip Funeral Home, High Point, with Pastor D. M. Jones officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Shepherd Methodist Church Cemetery, Randolph County.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of John Matthews, was formerly employed as a housekeeper at Melrose Hosiery Mill and at Piedmont Christian Home, and was a founding member of Baldwin's Chapel Seventh Day Adventist Church, where she was a member of the Dorcas Society.

Surviving are brothers, Ray Butler of Asheboro, Jurle Butler of Landover, Md., Charlie Butler of Washington, D.C., David Earl Butler of High Point; sisters, Willie McGruder of Detroit, Mich., Bertha McNair of High Point.

The family will be at the funeral home 1 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Butler, 1855 Jericho Butler Drive, Asheboro.

Juanita Griffith
DENTON - Juanita Griffith, 77, of SunBridge Nursing Home, High Point, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at the home.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cid United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Alvin Pope officiating.

She was a native of Surry County and a member of Cid United Methodist Church.

Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, is in charge of the arrangements.

Lillie E. Martin
BISCOE - Lillie Evelyn Martin, 74, of 211 Hunsucker St., died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Biscoe Presbyterian Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Anne Beach and the Rev. Glenn Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Biscoe Cemetery.

She was a native of Biscoe and a retired eligibility specialist with the Montgomery County Department of Social Services.

Surviving are husband, W.C. Martin of Biscoe; daughter, Ann Stone of Boone; sons, Sam Martin and Hugh Martin, both of Biscoe; sister, Betty Charles Cochran of Troy; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Elder Jerome Watson
RAMSEUR - Elder Jerome Watson, of 1223 N.C. 49 North, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Covenant Christian Church, Asheboro, with Bishop Emmanuel Holland officiating. Burial will be in Oakland-McCrary Cemetery, Ramseur.

He was the pastor of Mt. Nebo Holiness Church in Ramseur for 39 years.

Surviving are wife, Mable Spinks Watson of the home; sons, Samuel Watson and Earnel Watson, both of Ramseur; daughters, Martha Watson of the home, Elizabeth Kimes of Greensboro, Kelly Cotton of Ramseur, Nora McClain of Ramseur; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Nellie B. Snoddy
LIBERTY - Nellie Brinkley Snoddy, 91, of 1724 Kivett-Council Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Holly's Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. James Stowe, the Rev. Tim Wolfe and the Rev. Eugene Brinkley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Surry County and a homemaker.

Surviving are sons, Wade Snoddy of Evans, Ga., Larry Snoddy of Knoxville, Md.; daughters, Earlene Vickory, Betty Wright and Shirley Garland, all of Liberty, Dorothy Staley of Franklinville, Virginia Hardister of Fredrick, Md.; 33 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

GREENSBORO - Ruth E. Fields, 91, formerly of 5165 Liberty Road, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at Guilford Health Care.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Sidney Lanier officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a member of the United Methodist Women.

Surviving are daughter, Mary P. Winfree of Greensboro; brother, James A. Gwyn of Greensboro; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of the daughter, 5330 Field-Horney Road, Greensboro.

ROBBINS - Dorothy Sanders "Granny" Allen, 77, of 856 Browns Chapel Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Browns Chapel Christian Church, with the Rev. Brady Stephens and the Rev. Gary Waisner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was the widow of James Curtis Allen and a public bus monitor for the Special Learning Center.

Surviving are daughters, Verna A. Hancock and Janet A. Summerlin, both of Robbins, Loretta A. Brewer of Eagle Springs; half brother, D.R. Sanders of Eagle Springs; half sisters, Edna S. Sheffield of Catawba, Elsie Ann S. Williams of Eagle Springs; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Rev. James E. Ingram Sr.
FAYETTEVILLE - Rev. James Edward Ingram Sr., 73, of 931 Fleetwood Drive, formerly of Asheboro, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at St. Luke's A.M.E. Church, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Sheridan Knight officiating. Burial will be in Rockfish Cemetery with military honors.

He was a retired U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving is wife, Cecilia Ingram.

Lynwood J. Blower
HERMISTON, Ore. - Lynwood James "Lynn" Blower, 72, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston, Ore.

Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at 910 Donna Ave., Hermiston, Ore.

He was a native of Randolph County, owner and operator of Sun Valley Marble in Boise, Idaho, for 13 years, was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Meridian, Idaho, and was a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Sharon Blower of Hermiston, Ore; sons, Wayne Blower and Jimmey Blower, both of Asheboro, Larry Blower of Hermiston, Ore.; daughters, Vickie Smith of Asheboro, Lori Varnum of Bend, Ore., Loretta Suiter of Tacoma, Wash.; brothers, Woosley Blower of Franklinville, Randell Blower of Staley; sister, Edith Gallimore of Trinity; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

ASHEBORO - Odell L. Cranford, 88, of 3101 Duraleigh Road, Raleigh, formerly of Asheboro, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at Rex Hospital, Raleigh.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Asheboro City Cemetery, with Dr. Boyd Stokes officiating.

He was a native of Asheboro, the widower of DeEtte Cranford, the owner/operator of Wagon Wheel Restaurant for 28 years and was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are wife, Janet H. Cranford of Asheboro; daughters, Linda C. Dawson of Rocky Mount, Betty C. Cohen of Davidson, Kitty C. Edmondson of Cary; son, Chip Cranford of Asheboro; sisters, Eva Frye Wood of Santee, S.C., Hilda Rose of Tampa, Fla., Catherine Fritz of Asheboro; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at the home of his son, 651 Anns Court, Asheboro, on Thursday evening.

ASHEBORO - Ruby Ridge Fields, 75, of 5605 Jackson Creek Road, Denton, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation of Asheboro

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Gary Phaup and the Rev. Larry McEntire officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Union United Church of Christ Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, retired from Acme-McCrary Corp. after 25 years, and was a member of Pleasant Union United Church of Christ, where she was a Sunday School teacher.

Surviving are husband, Richard Fields; son, Gary Fields of Denton; daughters, Sheila Allmon of Asheboro, Judy Allred of Beaufort; sister, Mary R. Stone of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Anne P. Trogdon
ASHEBORO - Anne Peoples Trogdon, 67, of 1207 Neely Drive, Asheboro, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at Duke University Medical Center, Durham.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Oaklawn Cemetery, with Dr. Boyd Stokes officiating.

She was a native of Durham, was formerly of Pittsboro and was a graduate of Saint Mary's Junior College in Raleigh and Woman's College in Greensboro. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Asheboro.

Surviving are husband, W. Joe Trogdon; daughter, Stephanie Bennett of Asheboro; sons, W. Joseph Trogdon Jr. and Taylor P. Trogdon, both of Asheboro; sister, June P. Trageser of Pittsboro; six grandchildren.

The family will be at the home and at First United Methodist Church, following the service.

RANDLEMAN - Joyce Taylor Mills, 72, of 713 Worthville Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Country Holiness Cemetery, with the Rev. Jack Luther and the Rev. Lanny Lancaster officiating.

She was a native of Montgomery County, attended Worthville United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Marcia Mills of High Point, Ramona Tuttle of Randleman; sisters, Hazel Cagle and Virginia Brown, both of Troy, Rayemell Russell of Albemarle, Frances Owens of Biscoe, Barbara Byerly of Thomasville, Faye Dunn of Randleman; brother, Wayne Taylor of Trinity; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

Millard D. York
LIBERTY - Millard Delman "Runt" York, 79, of 3430 Hinshaw Country Road, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Kildee Wesleyan Church, Ramseur, where he was a member, with the Rev. Larry Moore, the Rev. Roger Riffe and the Rev. Gary Waisner officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Liberty.

He was a native of Randolph County, a song leader, a Sunday School teacher and a former Sunday School superintendent and member of the church board at his church, and he was a retired salesman with Freeman Ford.

Surviving are wife, Treva Teague York of the home; daughters, Patricia Y. Coltrane of Rockingham, Martha Y. Ray of Liberty; sons, Filmore York and Samuel York, both of Liberty; brother, Marcus "Dick" York of Ramseur; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

ROBBINS - Dorothy Welch Kennedy, 77, of 212 Etta Lane, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Bright Light Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Ralph Voncannon officiating. Burial will be in the Kennedy Family Cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County and retired from Perdue Company.

Surviving are husband, Warren J. Kennedy; daughter, Brenda K. Williams of Eagle Springs; son, Roger W. Kennedy of Robbins; sisters, Pauline Frye and Thelma Davis, both of Robbins; brothers, Junior Welch of Robbins, Worthy Welch of Seagrove, Robert Welch of Bennett, Billy Gene Welch of Coleridge; three grandchildren.

W. Benson Haywood
NORMAN - W. Benson Haywood, 82, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Carter Funeral Home, Ellerbe, with the Rev. Gary Hill officiating. Burial will be in Norman Cemetery.

He was the widower of Minnie Belle Sasser Haywood, worked for the N.C. Department of Transportation for over 37 years, and had been a member of Exway Baptist Church and the N.C. Cooner's Club.

Surviving are daughters, Shirley Greene of Randleman, Mary Moore of Robbins; sisters, Blanche Bennett and Donnie Mae Williams, both of Rockingham, Pauline Thomas of Carthage; brothers, C.B. Haywood Jr. of Norman, Lester Haywood of Carthage; one granddaughter; two stepgranddaughters; five stepgreat-grandchildren; two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home of Eugene and Shelby McIntyre, 1850 U.S. 220 North, Ellerbe.

CAMERON - Fred W. Good, 61, of 1544 Stanton Hill Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Red Branch Baptist Church, with the Rev. D.C. Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Linesville, Pa., and a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Frances Deese Good; daughter, Julia G. Armstrong of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; sons, Curtis Good of Hampton, Va., Mark Good of Cameron; mother, Laura Burt Good of Ashtabula, Ohio; sister, Gloria Hammond of Ashtabula, Ohio; eight grandchildren.

She was a native of Montgomery County and a retired clothing inspector.

Surviving is husband, James Holland Moore of the home.

The family will be at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, Candor, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday.
