GREENSBORO - Esther Catherine Smith, of Friends Homes at Guilford, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000.
Memorial service will be 4 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, Asheboro, where she was a member.
She was a native of Beaver Falls, Penn., received her bachelor's degree at Geneva College and her master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
Surviving is sister, Naomi Kilpatrick of Asheboro.

ASHEBORO - Diane Elaine Buttlar Meager, 53, of 617-Q Uwharrie St., Asheboro, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Chaplain E. Benn Fleming officiating.
She was a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., the widow of Charlie Meager and the gift shop manager at Randolph Hospital.
Surviving are son, Terry Hoket of Somerset, Pa.; mother, Edith E. Buttlar of the home; brothers, William L. Buttlar of Hartsel, Colo., Glen A. Buttlar of Mahomet, Ill.; two grandchildren.

RAMSEUR - Fred "Sonny" Kinney, 68, of 437 N.C. 22 North, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at Duke Medical Center, Durham.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Ramseur, where he attended, with the Rev. Justus McKeel officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Knoll Cemetery.
He was a native of Randolph County, retired from Black & Decker and was a U.S. Navy veteran.

RALEIGH - Willam Lynn Andrew, 71, of 6109 Buffaloe Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at his home.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City with the Rev. Nathan King officiating. Burial will be in Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Bear Creek.
He was a native of Chatham County, retired from Builders Products, Inc. of Raleigh and was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of Masonic Lodge #143 of Bonlee.
Surviving are brothers, Glenn Andrew of Sanford, Donald Andrew of Goldston; sister, Arlene Gilliland of Bennett.

She was a native of Asheboro, a member of First Baptist Church and retired from the N.C. Employment Security Commission after 30 years.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Claudia Yow Dennis and retired owner of Buck's Hardware in Randleman.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, with the Rev. Doug Miller and the Rev. Bart Millison officiating. Burial will be in Grays Chapel U.M.C. cemetery.
He was a native of Chatham County, the widower of Helen Isley Cheek, a member of Grays Chapel Lions Club and Grays Chapel United Methodist Church.
Surviving are daughters, Ann Baldwin of Climax, Carol York of Asheboro; brother, Raymond H. Cheek of Wake Forrest, Calif.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two step grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren.

LEXINGTON - Ray Ward Crouse, 71, of 1231 Cedar Springs Road, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at Community General Hospital in Thomasville.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, with the Rev. Joseph Collins officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Gardens cemetery.
He was a native of Davidson County, owner and partner of Crousedale Farm and was a member of Central United Methodist Church. He was a 1946 graduate of Denton High School, served on the N.C. Farm Bureau Dairy Advisory Board and was on the Davidson County Farm Bureau Board of Directors. He was a former state FFA officer, received the FFA American Farmer Degree and received the Outstanding Young Farmer Award from the Lexington Jaycees. He was the Davidson County Soil and Water District Supervisor, was active in the N.C. Holstein Association and was a former director of the N C. State Dairy Foundation.
Surviving are wife, Vivian Swing Crouse of the home; son, Leslie Crouse of the home; daughter, Roxanna Smith of Lexington; sisters, Mary Lee Kindley, Bessie Russell, Kate Smith, all of Denton, Marjorie Gallimore of Lexington; two grandchildren.

ABERDEEN - Ray L. Grubb, 68, of 172 Kirk Road, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
There will be no service.
He was a native of Davidson County, a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korea conflict and was employed at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital for 25 years.
Surviving are wife, Ruth Miles Grubb of the home; son, Ronald Grubb of Candor; daughters, Susan Yow of Seagrove, Pamela G. Dunn of Aberdeen; mother, Bessie Grubb Clark of Lexington; stepsister, Helen Clark of Lexington.

BEAR CREEK - Bryan Harold Bauer, 73, of 4775 Devils Tramping Ground Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

He was a native of Studville, Ohio, a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean conflict, was president of the American Federation of Government Employees, and was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
Surviving are wife, Belle H. Bauer of Bear Creek; daughters, Sharon B. Ingram of Bear Creek; Dawn B. Wideman of Asheville; brother, Patrick Bauer of Arcadia, Fla.; four grandsons.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Richard Harold "Pappy" Lowe, 93, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, in Jefferson City, Tenn.
Graveside memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, with Dr. Robert Reno officiating.
He was a native of McAllister, Okla., the widower of Anne Thorsen Lowe, a mining, metallurgical engineer for over 50 years and was retired from New Market Zinc Co. as operations manager. He was a part owner and former manager of Lost Creek Golf Club, a member of First Presbyterian Church of Jefferson City, Tenn., a member of the American Institute of Mining Metallurgical Engineers and the Jefferson City Civitans and was a 1925 graduate of the New Mexico School of Mines.
Surviving are daughter, Patricia L. Brown of Asheboro; sons, Bruce Nichols Lowe of Arden, Richard Martin Lowe of St. Louis, Mo.; seven grandchildren.
