GREENSBORO - Catherine Phillips Hamilton, 80, formerly of Greensboro, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Christ United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Asheboro.
She was the widow of the Rev. Emsley Paul Hamilton, and a member of the United Methodist Women and the Association of Minister's Wives Western N.C. Methodist Conference.
Surviving are daughter, Karen H. Bass of Odessa, Fla.; sons, Emsley Paul Hamilton Jr. of Raleigh, Franklin Garfield Hamilton of Concord; sister, Elizabeth Phillips of Greensboro; two grandsons.

ROCKINGHAM - James Arthur Reese, 80, of 215 9th Ave. Aleo, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at his son's home in Rockingham
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Abundant Life Church, with the Rev. Joe B. Wilkes and the Rev. Roy Hanley officiating. Burial will be in Richmond County Memorial Park.
He was a native of New Brookland, S.C., a member of Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church in West Columbia, S.C., and attended Abundant Life Church in Rockingham. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and was retired from Mt. Vernon Mill in West Columbia, S.C.
Surviving are wife, Alice Lindler Reese of the home; sons, James A. Reese Jr. of Asheboro, William Reese and John Reese, both of Rockingham; daughters, Elizabeth Geiser of Appleton, Minn., Sandra Sawyer of Lexington, S.C., Brenda Hallman Sessoms of Rockingham; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - Frankie James Perkins Sr., 70, of 518 W. Wainman Ave., Asheboro, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at his home.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. James Ward officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.
He was a native of Giles County, Va., was employed by The Courier-Tribune and later by Hunsucker Printing and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are sons, Frankie J. Perkins Jr. and Terry Lee Perkins, both of Asheboro; sister, Ernestine Whitehead of Richmond, Va.; three grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - Nello Snuggs Freeland of 449 Glovenia St., Asheboro, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at her home.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Surviving are sons, Robert Freeland Jr. and the Rev. William Freeland, both of Asheboro, Cleveland Terry of New York, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Dr. Charles F. Scarborough Jr.
STAR - Dr. Charles F. Scarborough Jr., 79, of 401 Okeewemee Road, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at his home.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Star United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Michael W. Leburg and the Rev. James W. Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in Star Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
He was a native of Mt. Gilead, and was the widower of Clara Aderholt Scarborough and Sarah Hogan Scarborough. He attended Louisburg College, was a graduate of the University of North Carolina, where he also attended Medical School, and he attended Thomas Jefferson University Medical School in Philadelphia, Pa. He interned at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital in Johnstown, Pa., externed at Friends Psychiatric Hospital in Philadelphia, was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and did postgraduate study at the University of Vienna Medical School in Vienna, Austria. He had a private practice in Star, and was an original staff member of Montgomery Memorial Hospital where he also served as Chief of Staff on two separate occasions. He was a 32nd-degree Mason, a member of Biscoe Masonic Lodge #437 and a Shriner in the Oasis Temple in Charlotte.
Surviving are daughter, Betsy Hicks of Apex; stepson, William Christopher Janieri of Albemarle.

He was a native of Cleveland, Tenn., a member of First Wesleyan Church, a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Western Carolina, was a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran and was a retired teacher and principal from the Rockingham County School System.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a retired minister, a U.S. Army veteran and retired from the N.C. Department of Correction.

STAR - Colonel (Ret.) Harold Martin Maness, 78, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Biscoe Presbyterian Church, Biscoe, with the Rev. Gary Wiseman officiating. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
He was a native of Star and had degrees in Military Science, Business Administration and Biology from Oak Ridge Military Academy and University of Omaha, Nebraska. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II, the Korean War and retiring after 30 years of military duty. He was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star with Valor, two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Legion of Merit, Commendation Ribbon, Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge with Star, Expert Infantry Badge, Distinguished Unit Citation EmbIem, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Victory Medal (WWII), Army of Occupation Medal, NationaI Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, U.N. Service Medal, and Korean Presidential Unit Citation Badge. He retired at the rank of full colonel and was appointed director of Plans and Programs for the state of North Carolina under the Department of Human Resources.
Surviving are sons, Dr. Michael J. Maness of Pinehurst, Chip Maness of Biscoe, Woody Maness of Summerville, S.C., Andrew L. Maness of High Point; daughters, Deb Stalls of Cary, Susan Ferrante of Hillard, Ohio; sisters, Faye M. McGinnis of Cary, Myra M. Hall of Pinehurst; six grandchildren.

He was a native of High Point, the widower of Gladys Thomas, a retired minister in the Church of God and a pianist.

He was a native of Guilford County, former owner of Cox Radiator, a member of Calvary Baptist Church, a 32 degree Mason and was a private pilot and flight instructor.
Surviving are wife, Mozelle P. Holt; daughters, June H. White of Asheboro, Patricia Keith Katalinic of Charlotte; son, Keith Starr Holt Jr. of Julian; brother, Frank W. "Red" Holt of Jamestown; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
