SEAGROVE - Ruby Maxine Parks Martin, 69, of 505 E. Main St., died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at her home.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Hill UMC Cemetery, with the Rev. Bobby Marsh and the Rev. Lee Roy Hunt officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of W. L. "Bill" Martin, was retired from Acme-McCrary Corporation, attended New Zion Memorial Church, Seagrove, was the owner of American Beauty Florist and managed her own cleaning service.

Surviving are daughter, Leondia Leonard of Asheboro; sister, Willa Dean Marsh of Asheboro; brothers, E. Ray Parks, Henry W. Parks, both of Seagrove; one grandchild; two stepgrandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Ray L. Davis
RANDLEMAN - Ray Lee Davis, 72, of 116 Ferree St., died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at South Plainfield Friends Meeting. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and a self-employed log cutter.

Surviving are daughter, Brenda Davis of Randleman; sisters, Margaret Hill of Thomasville, Helen Moore of Randleman; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Ocia S. McDowell
TRINITY - Ocia Small McDowell, 90, formerly of Trinity, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Ray Swaney officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Union United Church of Christ Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Arthur Exton McDowell, a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are daughters, Ora Clark, Virgie McElreath, Minnie Leigh Cranford, all of Asheboro, Louise Lambeth of Thomasville, Ruby Bristow of Trinity; sons, Fred McDowell of Wilmington, Glenn McDowell of Denton; sisters, Esther Davidson, Kathleen Yow, Annie Mae Robbins, all of Asheboro, Kate Skeen of Thomasville, Alene Gallimore of Lexington, Marie Freeman of Randleman; brothers, Clay Small, Everette Small, both of Asheboro; 23 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home, 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Ora Clark, 615 Highland St., Asheboro.

Thomas E. Hulin
THOMASVILLE - "Tommy" Thomas Edward Hulin, 62, of 7168 Courtney Lane, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Walters Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jeremy Simpson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County and employed with Carolina Business Furniture for over 41 years.

Surviving are sons, Alvin Carmie Hulin of Royal Palm, Fla., Don Wayne Hulin of Lexington; sisters, Hazel Hoover of Trinity, Edena Pennington, Lucy Noah, both of Lexington; brothers, "Bud" Jesse James Hulin, Rev. "Tubby" Clayton Hulin, both of Lexington, Kenneth Terry Hulin of Thomasville; four grandchildren.

The family will be at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home, Thomasville, 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

William P. Smith
TROY - William Paul Smith, 66, of 1981 N.C. 109 North, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at White Crest Baptist Church, Mt. Gilead, with the Rev. Danny Laws and the Rev. Wayne Lisenby officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, the widower of Jewell Dennis Smith, retired after 30 years with the U.S. Forest Service and was retired from the Town of Troy.

Surviving is son, Floyd Smith of Mt. Gilead.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

D.C. Deaton Jr.
BISCOE - David Calvin "D.C." Deaton Jr., 82, of 114 N. Pine St., died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Biscoe, where he was a member, with the Rev. Larry Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Biscoe Cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County, retired co-owner and operator of The Food Store in Biscoe and the Biscoe Movie Theater, and had served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of First Bank and First Bancorp, and was a director Emeritus of First Bancorp. He had been President and Chairman of the Board of Montgomery Nursing Home Inc., on the Board of Directors at Associated Grocers of the Carolinas, Inc., and a partner of Allen, Deaton and Hurley, Inc. He was Chairman of the Board of Environmental Impact (RC&D), Inc., and of the Pee Dee Council of Government. He had been a member of the local school committee of Biscoe High School, a director of First Recovery, Montgomery Data Services and was a chaplain of the N.C. Food Dealers Association. He was a member of the Governor's Advisory Council on Aging, Pee Dee Council of Government's Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council, Chairman of the Montgomery County Pollution Control and Industrial Financing Authority and a director for Montgomery Economic Development Corporation. He had served as Captain and Chief with Biscoe Fire Department, was director of Biscoe Development Corp. and was the Mayor of the Town of Biscoe for 14 years. He was a former member of Biscoe Lions Club, chairman of the Board of Deacons, a member of the finance, building and planning committees and a Sunday School director and teacher at his church. He had served as Chairman of the Board and Corporate President of IMC Baptist Foundation and was a World War II U.S. Coast Guard veteran.

Surviving are wife, Pauline Deaton of the home; sister, Louise D. King of Star.

The family will be at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, Candor, 6-8:30 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Clara M. Jordan
BISCOE - Clara Mabe Jordan, 92, formerly of Star, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at Autumn Care of Biscoe.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, with the Rev. James Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in Leach Cemetery, Biscoe.

She was a native of Stokes County, employed with Russell Hosiery Mill Inc., was a homemaker and a member of White Oak Springs Primitive Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Nancy Nance of Charlotte; son, Charles Jordan of Star; sister, Lenora M. Shaw of Star; two grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Garland W. Dowdy
CARTHAGE - Garland Webster Dowdy, 89, of 161 Degraffenreid Road, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Olive A.M.E. Zion Church, with the Rev. W.E. Clapp Sr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are wife, Ellen Petty Dowdy of the home; daughter, Teresa D. Gray of Sanford; brother, Rev. V.D. Dowdy of Carthage; sisters, Louise Kelly of Carthage, Ovelia Barnes of Durham, Betty Jones of Charlottesville, Va.; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.

The family will be at the church 7-8 p.m. Monday.

CAMERON - Carl James Smith, 39, of 509 Scott Road, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at his home.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, with the Rev. D.C. Sullivan officiating.

Surviving are wife, Joyce Kimball Smith; stepsons, Sammy Kimball, John Moore, both of the home; sisters, Janet Smith, Susan McRae, both of Carthage; mother, Treva Hunt Smith of Carthage; one granddaughter.

Fannie B. Tyson
ASHEBORO - Fannie Belle Tyson, of 322 Worth St., Asheboro, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation.

Graveside service will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Oaklawn Cemetery, with the Rev. W. Russell Ward Jr. officiating.

She was a native of Oregon, retired from First National Bank of Asheboro and was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are brother, Eugene Tyson of Asheboro; sister, Margaret T. Jones of Asheboro.

Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, is in charge of the arrangements.

Gwendolyn P. Wise
ASHEBORO - Gwendolyn P. Wise, 77, of 1166 Skyline Drive, Asheboro, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at her home.

No funeral services will be held.

She was a native of Minnesota, a graduate of Hamlin University, a homemaker, an N.C. Zoo docent volunteer, a member of the Newcomers Club and a bowler with the Senior League group.

Surviving are husband, Robert Wise of the home; daughters, Robin Martinez of Denver, Colo., Wendy Herstein of Bowie, Md.; son, Robert L. Wise of the home; seven grandchildren.

Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, is in charge of the arrangements.

Renn W. Price
RANDLEMAN - Renn Weldon Price, 78, of 108 Depot St., died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Wesleyan Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Don Hurlburt, the Rev. James Denny and the Rev. Arnold Luther officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park, with the Rev. Alvin Newcomb and the Rev. Don Richardson officiating.

He was a native of Alexander County and retired from Hunt Manufacturing of Statesville.

Surviving is wife, Jane Cashatt Price of Randleman.

RANDLEMAN - Mildred Hancock Robbins, 78, of 314 W. Academy St., died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Kenneth Reaves officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Wesleyan Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, retired from Commonwealth Hosiery Mill, Randleman, and was a 1940 graduate of Randleman High School.

Surviving are daughters, Beverly Nelson of Lexington, Betsy Martin of Hillsborough, Deborah S. Lewis of Marion, Miss.; sister, Doris Brookshire of Southern Pines; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-granddaughter.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

SOPHIA - Ruth Elam Welborn, 83, of 3853 Valley Drive, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at SunBridge of Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church, Trinity, where she was a member, with the Rev. Matthew J. Emory officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of Arthur Thomas Welborn, a retired employee of Rice Hosiery Inc. and was a teacher in the Primary Class and a member of the choir at her church.

The family will be at Sechrest Funeral Service, Archdale, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

SILER CITY - Howard Lee McPherson, 80, of 2891 Piney Grove Church Road, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at SunBridge Care Facilities, Siler City.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Piney Grove United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Hank Sanders officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, retired from Clapp Brothers Imp. and Tractor Co., was a member of the Adult Bible Class, Methodist Men's Club and was a former Sunday School superintendent at his church.

Surviving are daughter, Martha M. Clifton of Liberty; sons, Larry McPherson, Jimmy McPherson, both of Siler City; brothers, David McPherson, George McPherson, both of Siler City; sisters, Lela Dark of Siler City, Sue Way of Liberty; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

DENTON - Pride Skeen Gallimore, 87, of North Main Street, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, with the Rev. Vern Peterson and the Rev. Thomas Griffis officiating. Burial will be in Denton Town Cemetery.

She was a native of Davidson County, the widow of Bob Gallimore, a member of First Baptist Church and a retired employee of Denton School Cafeteria.

Surviving are sons, Robert Darrell Gallimore of Advance, Phillip R. Gallimore of St. Louis, Mo.; sister, Golda Weddington of Denton; four grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

TROY - Clement L. "Teeter" Morton, 81, of 1120 Eldorado St., died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Wesleyan Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Douglas Beadle officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery.

He was a native of Iredell County, a retired employee of the N.C. Department of Transportation and of Lemons Backhoe Service, and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Louise Kivett Morton of the home; daughter, Janice Morton of Mt. Gilead; sons, Phillip Morton of Atlanta, Ga., Larry L. Morton of Wadeville; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

William M. Gardner
MT. GILEAD - William Max "Bill" Gardner, 43, of Alexandria, Va., died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at his parents' home, 6508 N.C. 73 West, Mt. Gilead.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Stoney Fork Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Tom Watson and the Rev. Lonnie Gibson officiating.

He was a native of Stanly County, a graduate of West Montgomery High School and a graduate of Pfeiffer College with a bachelor's degree in political science. He was a member of Stoney Fork Baptist Church and was employed with the Department of Defense in Washington, D.C.

Surviving are parents, Bill and Mickey Gillian Gardner of Mt. Gilead; sister, Sharon Tucker of Mt. Gilead.

The family will be at Stoney Fork Baptist Church immediately following the service.
