GREENSBORO - Louis Powell Bell, 49, of 3703-64 Cotswold Terrace died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Woodmont United Methodist Church in Reidsville.
A native of Raleigh, he was a retired drama and English teacher having taught in the Reidsville City Schools system and the Guilford County Schools system and later worked at the Natural Science Center in Kids Alley and the Planetarium. He was a graduate of Western Carolina University where he received a bachelor's degree in speech and theater and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where he received a master's of Fine Arts degree.
Surviving are wife, Pandora Mobley Bell of the home; son, Erik Benjamin Bell of Greensboro; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Bell of Greensboro; brothers, Lawrence Bell of Asheville and Robert Bell of Newark, Dela.
The family will see friends after the service in the fellowship hall of the church and at other times at the home.

ASHEBORO - Carl A. Brown, 94, of 134 W. Liberty St., Asheboro, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Dr. John S. Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.
He was a native of Randolph County, retired from Randolph Mills after 50 years, was a member of Hank's Masonic Lodge 128, Franklinville, and was a member of First Baptist Church.
Surviving are wife, Lillian Burrow Brown of the home; sons, Ralph K. Brown of Salisbury, Major Dwight E. Brown, Retired, of Harrison, Ark.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

RANDLEMAN - Donald Edwin Allred, 61, of 611 Worthville Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Midway Wesleyan Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. J. Arnold Luther, the Rev. Philip Birchall and the Rev. Robert W. Allred officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Randolph County, was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after more than 39 years, was a Sunday school superintendent and served on the Board of Administration at his church. He was a volunteer fireman, served on the Randleman city zoning board and was the author of "The Way It Happened in 1994."
Surviving are wife, Irene Meeks Allred of Randleman; daughters, Karen A. Handy of Hays, Melinda Allred of the home; son, Todd Allred of Randleman; mother, Dorothy Messick Allred of Randleman; brothers, Larry W. Allred of Randleman, Robert W. Allred of Charlotte.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Randolph Memorial Park, with the Rev. Frank Gribble officiating.
He was a native of Randolph County, a self-employed farmer and a saw mill operator, and was a member of Gospel Baptist Church.
Surviving are wife, Alma Frazier of Randleman; stepson, Leon Pratain of Georgia; one grandson.

TROY - Jerry Wade Hamilton, 59, of 433 Chinkapin Road, Carolina Forest, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

He was a native of Montgomery County, attended Laurel Hill Baptist Church, was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict and was a retired fixer with Candor Hosiery.

WELLFORD, S.C. - Lester McCravy Sr., 84, of 115 Broad St., died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at his home.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at J.F. Floyd Mortuary, Pacolet Chapel, with Bishop Scott Parry and Milton Fletcher officiating. Burial will be in White Rose Cemetery in Pacolet, S.C.
He was a native of Pacolet Mills, S.C., the widower of Hyacinth K. Richardson McCravy, worked in textiles, and was retired from Firestone Steel Products. He was of the Methodist faith and was a World War II veteran.
Surviving are son, Lester McCravy Jr. of Inman, S.C.; daughters, Bessie Andrews of Pittsboro, Catherine Newman of Sophia, Tonie Morris, Viola Wooten, both of Inman, S.C., Christie McNabb of Wellford; brothers, Luther McCravy of Burlington, John McCravy Sr. of Graham; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, at Oakhurst Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Rob Roberts and Dr. Richard Crider officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.
She was a native of Star and retired from Acme-McCrary Corp.

He was a native of Randolph County, had been employed with the State of Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and was a retired Chief T.M.C. U.S. Navy veteran.
