SALISBURY - Fred Nicholas, 83, of 255 Alan Circle, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at his home.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Friendship Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Roger Head officiating. Burial will be in Faith Temple Baptist Church Cemetery in Franklinville.
He was a native of Putnam County, W.Va., formerly employed in dry-cleaning and was retired from Bobbie Brooks Mfg. Co. in Hialeah, Fla. He was a former member and deacon of Yadkin Baptist Church in Spencer and a former member of Central Falls Baptist Church in Asheboro.
Surviving are wife, Lorraine Smith Nicholas; sons, Richard L. Nicholas of Bennett, Colo., Thomas D. Nicholas of Grand Prairie, Texas; daughters, Dottie Griggs of Salisbury, Charlotte Blevins of China Grove, Shirley Els of Liberty; brother, L.E. Nicholas of Craigsville, Va.; sister, Mae N. Raby of Stanton, Va.; 22 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.
The family will be at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Shirley Ann Cox, 65, of NHC HealthCare, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at NHC.
Funeral service will be 8 p.m. Saturday at Morris-Baker Funeral Home, Johnson City, Tenn., with the Rev. Kenneth Kyker officiating. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Monte Vista Burial Park.
She was a native of Carter County, a retired ACC secretary for Johnson City Medical Center, was a member of Skyline Heights Baptist Church and helped with the original setup of the Headstart program in Johnson City, Tenn.
Surviving are daughters, Debra Rae Collins, Susan Lynette James, Lori C. Ratliff, all of Johnson City, Tenn.; sons, Donald Lynn Cox, Mark Alan Cox, both of Asheboro; sisters, Mildred Walker of Norfolk, Va., Barbara Lois Smith of Johnson City, Tenn.; brother, Gene Martin of Johnson City, Tenn.; five grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Saturday.
Russell Emerson
HAVERHILL, Mass. - Russell Emerson, 72, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, Mass.
Funeral service was 11 a.m. Wednesday at West Congregational Church. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.
He was a native of North Broadway, Mass., a retired dairy farmer and a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Mebane and West Congregational Church in Haverhill, Mass.
Surviving are daughters, Patricia A. Robinson of Plaistow, N.H., Lorene A. Comeau of Andover, Mass.; sons, Russell S. Emerson of Franklinville, Bradley M. Emerson of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, Glenn A. Emerson of Brockport, N.Y., Dale M. Emerson of Liberty; sisters, Muriel Davis, Natalie Gagnon, both of Haverhill, Mass., Barbara Emerson of West Newbury, Mass.; brothers, Frederick G. Emerson Jr. of Sandown, N.H., Alvan S. Emerson of Haverhill, Mass.; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Randolph County and was employed with Asplundh Tree Co.

ASHEBORO - Frances Lambe Voncannon, 80, of Cross Road Rest & Retirement Community, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Cross Road Retirement Community, Asheboro.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Larry McEntire officiating. Burial will be in South Plainfield Friends Meeting Cemetery, Sophia.
She was a native of Randolph County, retired president of Voncannon Trucking Co. and a member of South Plainfield Friends Meeting where she had served as secretary/treasurer and Sunday School teacher.
Surviving are sons, Benny Voncannon, Johnny Voncannon, both of Asheboro; sisters, Judy Luck, Marilyn Richardson, Joyce Parrish, all of Asheboro; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

She was a native of Sophia, retired from Laughlin Hosiery Mill, Randleman, and was a homemaker.

She was a native of Guilford County, the widow of Marshall F. Russell and a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church in Franklinville.
Surviving are husband, Edward L. Bonkemeyer of Climax; daughter, Elaine Little of Franklinville; son, Timothy R. Russell of Winston-Salem; stepsons, Ed Bonkemeyer of Greensboro, Phillip Bonkemeyer, Ricky Bonkemeyer, both of Asheboro; sister, Lillie M. Odell of Washington, D.C.; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

SILER CITY - Henry Elias Lutterloh Jr., 75, of 1003 12th St., Butner, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at John Umstead Hospital.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Piney Grove United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Hank Sanders officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He was a native of Chatham County and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

LEXINGTON - Grady Glenn Bullins, 75, of Reddy Creek, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Memorial funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Worthville Baptist Church, with the Rev. Junior Dawkins officiating.
Surviving are sisters, Beatrice Henry of Asheboro, Maggie Hughes of Lexington.

Geneva A. Turner
CANDOR - Geneva Austin Turner, 83, of U.S. 211 East, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at Kitty Askins Hospice House, Goldsboro.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Candor Town Cemetery, with the Rev. Edsel Huffstetler officiating.
She was a native of Lee County, the widow of James Atlas Turner, a member of Candor Presbyterian Church and was employed as a teacher in Montgomery County for 41 years. She was a past Worthy Matron with the Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the NCAE.
Surviving are daughters, Virginia T. "Ginger" Price of Mt. Olive, Sarah T. Pitts of Memphis, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
There will be no public visitation. Briggs-Candor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

PINEHURST - Bertha Mary Garner, 92, of Pinehurst, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Graybrier Assisted Living.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, at the Smyrna Methodist Church in Robbins, with burial in the church cemetery.
She was a native of Moore County, attended Acorn Ridge School, was the widow of Wiley L. Garner and was formerly employed at Hobbs & Worsham Grocery Store. She was a member of Beulah Hill Baptist Church and attended the Village Chapel.
Surviving are son, Edward Lee Garner of Southern Pines; daughters, Daisy G. Watson of Pinehurst, Margie G. Walton of Raleigh; brothers, Marvin Garner, Earl Garner, both of Robbins; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the church after the service.
