Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, at Clark Memorial Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are daughters, Shelby Strickland of Yadkin, Marshalean S. Staley of Siler City, Lisa Farrar of Chapel Hill; sons, Dallas Sales Jr. of Greensboro, Sammie Anthony Sales of Texas; sisters, Imogene Boles of Elkin, Mabel Powell of South Hill, Va.; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Farrar Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-8 p.m. Saturday.

Melvie H. Stutts
ROBBINS - Melvie Helen Stutts, 83, of 216 Moore St., died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, in Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Larry Higgins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County and was retired from Robbins Mills in Robbins.

Surviving are brother, Thurman Stutts of Robbins; sister, Rona S. Phillips of Hamlet.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Myrtle M. Caldwell
CARTHAGE - Myrtle McCaskill Caldwell, 95, of Pinelake Health & Rehabilitation Center, formerly of 708 Sunset Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Eureka Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jean Ganzel officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County and the widow of the late James Caldwell.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

Emma P. Moore
ASHEBORO -Emma Phillips Moore, 86, formerly of U.S. 311, Sophia, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation Center, Asheboro.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point, with the Rev. Kenneth L. Reaves officiating.

She was a native of Chatham County, a homemaker and the widow of Charlie L. Moore.

Surviving are sisters, Cleo Dobbins, Cladie Treece, both of Ramseur; brothers, Obie Phillips of High Point, Harold Phillips of Asheboro; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, is in charge of arrangements.

William C. Rush
ASHEBORO - William Clarence Rush, 76, of 1212 S. Fayetteville St., Asheboro, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Burial will be in Asheboro City Cemetery with military honors.

He was a native of Asheboro and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are daughter, Mary R. Garner of Randleman; son, William Harris "Chip" Rush of Randleman; five grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Richard N. Wood
RANDLEMAN - Richard Norman Wood, 81, of 8018 U.S. 220 Business North, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at New Salem United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David McCauley officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a member of VFW Post 9418, retired from Sears and was the widower of Pearl Edna Trogdon Wood.

Surviving are daughter, Dr. Sheila J. Wood of Abingdon, Md.; son, Richard Alan Wood of Glendale, Ariz.; brothers, Bascom Wood, Gary Wood, Ralph Wood, all of Randleman, Gene Wood of Marietta, Ga.; sister, Dot Lassiter of Randleman; three grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 6-8 p.m. Sunday.

Jimmy Campbell
PLEASANT GARDEN - Jimmy Campbell, 61, of 5940 Cherokee Trail, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Moses Cone Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Forbis & Dick North Elm Chapel, Greensboro. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park.

He was a native of Orange County and a self-employed paint contractor.

Surviving are wife, Edna Sue Strickland Campbell of the home; son, Jimmy Phillip Campbell of Franklinville; daughter, Donna Tilley of Pleasant Garden; sisters, Virginia Young of Level Cross, Diane Privette of Climax; brothers, Edgar Campbell of Greensboro, Clifford Campbell of Florida, Vance Campbell of Randleman, Billy Campbell of Ramseur; three grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday, other times at 2569 Millboro Road, Franklinville.

Lucille C. Hodgin
SEAGROVE - Lucille Chriscoe Hodgin, 70, of 840 Chrisco Road, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Moore Regional Hospital.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro.

She was a native of Randolph County and was a retired licensed practical nurse at Brian Center of Asheboro.

Surviving are daughter, Gaylene Albright of Seagrove; sister, Jewel Hussey of Star; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 1-1:30 p.m. Monday.

LaVerne S. Ritter
SEAGROVE - LaVerne Shields Ritter, 68, of 5866 Riverside Road, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Acorn Ridge Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Richard Wright and the Rev. Bert Seawell officiating. Burial will be in Pine Rest Cemetery in Robbins.

She was a native of Moore County and formerly worked at Pinehurst Textiles.

Surviving are daughters, Mary Lou Dunlap of Robbins, Phyllis Frye of Seagrove; brothers, Clyde Shields, James Carl Shields, both of Robbins; sisters, Louise Shields, Vera Mae Maness, both of Robbins; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Joyce-Brady Funeral Home, Bennett, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, other times at the home of John and Phyllis Frye, 5920 Riverside Road, Seagrove.

Sulon B. Kivett
ASHEBORO - Sulon B. Kivett, 92, of 609 Holly St., Asheboro, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, at First United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with Dr. Boyd Stokes officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was retired as a supervisor with Acme-McCrary Corp. after 45 years of service.

Surviving are wife, Alice Hughes Kivett of the home; sons, Odell B. Kivett of Asheboro, Allen E. Kivett of Greensboro; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Randolph Memorial Park, with Dr. Richard Crider officiating.

She was a native of Macon County, was retired from Sapona Mfg. Co., was the widow of Price A. Suggs, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Bryson City.

Surviving are daughter, Brenda Powers of Asheboro; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The body will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, where friends may call until 9 p.m. The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joel Powers, 461 Legend Drive, Asheboro, 7 -9 p.m. Monday.

Beatrice H. Beeson
SOPHIA - Beatrice Hill Beeson, 84, former resident of Beeson Farm Road, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Maryfield Nursing Home in High Point.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Marlboro Friends Meeting, where she was a member, with the Rev. John Sides and Dr. Bob Medford officiating. Burial will be in the meeting house cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Howard H. Beeson, a homemaker, and was a member of the Friendly Friends Sunday school class.

Surviving are son, W.S. Beeson of Sophia; sister, Ruby Lee H. Coltrain of Trinity; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday.

CARTHAGE - Alice Parrish Lassiter, 84, of 11686 U.S. 24/27, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, with the Rev. Bennie Maness and the Rev. John Powell officiating. Burial will be in Pine Rest Cemetery, Robbins.

She was a native of Moore County, retired from Currie Mills in Carthage, and was a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Jacob C. Lassiter of the home; sister, Mary P. Williamson of Shallotte.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Arnold and Delores Lassiter, 477 Marley Road, Robbins.

Myrtle T. McLaughlin
CARTHAGE - Myrtle Thomas McLaughlin, 86, of 472 Needmoore Road, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Olive A.M.E. Zion Church, with the Rev. V.D. Dowdy officiating. Burial will be in New Zion Cemetery in Robbins.

Surviving are daughters, Flora Brower, Selma McLaughlin, both of Carthage, Sarah Longmire of Muskegon, Mich.; sons, Calvin Brower of Vass, Otis Brower of Carthage; sister, Evangelist Gerushia Wrencher of Muskegon, Mich.; brother, Carlee Thomas of Robbins; 26 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 7-8 p.m. Tuesday.

TROY - Elizabeth "Lib" Wade Smitherman, 84, of FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Skilled Nursing, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Skilled Nursing Unit.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Mike Elliott officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery.

She was a native of Wake County and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Jim Smitherman of Asheboro; son, Jimmy "Smut" Smitherman of Boone; daughter, Susan S. Snuggs of Concord; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

He was a native of Randolph County, was employed with Klaussner Furniture Plant 8 and was a member of God's Outreach Ministry.

Surviving are wife, Connie Hughes; sons, Kenneth Hughes of Asheboro, Darin Hughes of Randleman; sister, Sarah East of Asheboro; brothers, Harold Hughes of Asheboro, Gary Hughes of Connecticut; two grandchildren.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a World War II U.S. Coast Guard veteran and was retired from the N.C. Department of Transportation.

Surviving are wife, Julia Henley Saunders; sons, Robert E. Saunders Jr. of Winnabow, Ronald T. Saunders of New Hill; brothers, Howard Saunders of Franklinville, Ernest Saunders of Grandy, Worth Saunders of Lexington, Harvey Saunders of Waynesville; sister, Grace Kimrey of Asheboro; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
