Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fair Promise United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bobby Fletcher, the Rev. Bob Yandle and the Rev. Claude Chaffin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County and a farmer.

Surviving are wife, Mackie Muse Paschal; daughters, Nancy P. Bowman of Hartwell, Ga., Martha P. McNeill of Carthage; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, other time at the home of Martha McNeill, 2211 Cool Springs Road, Carthage.

Mae M. Jaynes
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - Mae Murray Jaynes, 81, of Clear Springs Community, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at NHC Health Care.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Clear Springs United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Mark Huffine and the Rev. James Adcock officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Vale Cemetery.

She was the widow of Charlie Jaynes.

Surviving are daughter, Charlotte Patton of Asheboro; son, Roger Jaynes of Clear Springs; sisters, Pauline Marion of Asheboro, Edna Frye of Johnson City, Tenn., Joyce Hopkins of Dayton, Ohio; brother, Don Murray of Greenwood, S.C.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Jeffers Mortuary, Greeneville, 6-8 p.m. Monday.

W. Ray Craven
ASHEBORO - Walter Ray Craven, 66, of 5604 New Hope Church Road, Asheboro, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Victory Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Johnny Henderson, the Rev. Danny Penny, and Harold McMillon officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County and retired from Georgia-Pacific.

Surviving are wife, Gladys Cox Craven of the home; daughter, Ruth Stage of Asheboro; son, Danny Ray Craven of Asheboro; sister, Mary Swaney of Asheboro; brothers, Sammy Craven of Edwardsville, Pa., Matthew Craven of Sophia; two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

ASHEBORO - Walker Poole "W.P." Meacham, 80, of 384 N.C. 42 N., Asheboro, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Friendship Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Tommy Kidd, the Rev. James Sweeny, and the Rev. Melvin Morton officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Richmond County, an usher and trustee at his church, and was the retired owner and operator of Meacham Home Repair.

Surviving are wife, Pauline Smith Meacham; daughter, Judy Crotts of Asheboro; brothers, Bruce Meacham of Mt. Gilead, Jerry Meacham of Huntersville; sister, Marcell Freeman of Mt. Gilead; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Solid Rock Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Perry Brown officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Dingess, W.Va., and a homemaker.

Surviving are brothers, Crit Vance of Dingess, W Va., Eugene Baldwin of Randleman; sisters, S. Mae Baldwin, Teresa Schaefer, Margaret Southers, all of Randleman; Lisa Burgess, Connie Williams, both of Blair, W.Va.; Nancy Pickett of Franklinville; Freda Verburg of Elyria, Ohio.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

SEAGROVE - Herbert Hoover Bowman, 72, of 626 Boroughs Ave., died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at his home.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Huldah Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Harold Baker officiating.

He was a native of Stokes County and a retired saw mill worker.

Surviving are daughters, Barbara Davis of Franklinville, Vivian Williamson of Seagrove, Sandy Beckham of Randleman; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 11 a.m.-12 noon Tuesday.

CARTHAGE - Annie B. Williams, 84, of NC Special Care Center and former resident of Carthage, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Wilson.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Olive AME Zion Church Cemetery, Carthage, with the Rev. V.D. Dowdy officiating.

She was a native of Moore County and the widow of Lonnie Williams.

Surviving are sister, Lucille Dowd Lee of Carthage.

SOUTHERN PINES - Rogers C. Matthews, 82, of Sterling House, formerly of Clay Road Farm, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at St. Joseph of the Pines Health Center, Southern Pines.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Yates-Thagard Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Johnson and the Rev. Max Gilmore officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a retired truck driver.

Surviving are sisters, Gladys Watson, Evelyn Hyroski, Peggy Wikoff, all of Southern Pines; brother, Franklin Matthews of Pinehurst.

Isaac T. Hudson
HURT, Va. - Isaac Trinkle Hudson, 77, of 16273 Rockford School Road, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, in The Carrington.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Oral Puckett officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Gladys, Va., a retired brick mason, painter, carpenter, retired from Piedmont Manufacturing and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife Vera Weeks Hudson; son, Wendell Hudson of Asheboro; daughters, Mary Millner of Mebane, Lori Barker of Asheboro; brother, James Hudson of Williamsburg, Va.; sisters, Antha Mason of Gretna, Va., Dorothy Dalton of Roanoke, Va.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Finch & Finch Funeral Home, Alta Vista, Va., 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

Thelma C. Thompson
ASHEBORO - Thelma Carleene Thompson, 91, formerly of 1238 Jerico Road, Asheboro, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Carolina House of Asheboro.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mountain View Independent Methodist Church Cemetery, with Father Louie Canino officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County, former owner of Thompson House Restaurant, was a ferry pilot during World War II, after graduating from Civil Pilot Training in Raleigh. She was a charter member of Raleigh CAP, was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and was the widow of Michael Roy Thompson Sr.

Surviving are son, Mike Thompson Jr. of Asheboro; foster brother, Howard Bunting of Archdale; one grandson.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

GREENSBORO - Katherine Hardin "Kitty" Daniels, 92, formerly of Randleman, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Britthaven of Guilford.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. David Hamlyn. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randleman, the widow of Paul F. Daniels and a homemaker.

The family will be in the church fellowship hall immediately after the service.

THOMASVILLE - Beulah Lee Dorsett Loflin, 69, a resident of 6853 Old Post Office Road, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel, Thomasville, with the Rev. Bonnie Harris and the Rev. Douglas Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Westfield Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Avery Eugene Loflin, and was a homemaker. She was formerly employed with Trindale Elementary School and was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, where she was a former Sunday School teacher.

Surviving are sons, Harold Eugene Loflin of Thomasville, Dwight Lee Loflin of Trinity; sister, Gracie Dorsett of Trinity; two grandsons.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at their respective homes.

STAR - Coie Blaine Atkins, 79, of 168 King St., died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, with the Rev. Larry Wilson and the Rev. Junior Davis officiating. Burial will be in Lovejoy UMC Cemetery.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are sons, David Blaine Atkins of Star, James Harrison Atkins of West End; daughter, Linda A. Summersett of Lamar, S.C.; sisters, Emmer Bristow, Versie Hamilton, Ruby Williams, all of Troy; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Mary Frances Dowd
BEAR CREEK - Mary F. Dowd, 86, of Devils Tramping Ground Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Tysons Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Bear Creek, with the Rev. Bob Wachs officiating.

She was a native of Moore County, a retired schoolteacher and the widow of Robert E. Dowd Sr.

Surviving are son, Bobby Dowd of Bear Creek; sisters, Carolyn Keith of Sanford, Myrtle McCallum of Carthage; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the home of Myrtle McCallum, 905 McReynolds St., Carthage.

Funeral service will 3 p.m. Saturday at C.C. Hodges Funeral Service in Asheboro, with the Rev. John Rudd officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvery Cemetery.

She was a native of Guilford County, a member of Melita Grove Baptist Church and a retired employee of Asheboro City Schools.

Surviving are husband, Ervin Bumpas of Ramseur; daughter, Linda Bumpas of the home; sisters, Martha Austin of Cambria Heights, N.Y., Mary Gibson of East Orange, N.J., Griszella Parson of Randleman; brothers, Raymond Warren of Burlington, Melvin Warren of Greensboro, James Singleton of Delaware.

There will be no visitation prior to the service.

ASHEBORO - Kimberly Dawn Harris, 37, of 4495 Buffalo Ford Road, Asheboro, died Wednesday, Jan. 3 I, 2001, at Duke Hospital, Durham.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Lambeth Chapel Church Cemetery, Siler City, with the Rev. Robert Green officiating.

She was a native of Asheboro, and had worked at B.B. Walker Shoe Co. for 17 years.

Surviving are son, Kelly DeMitchell Simmons of the home; mother, Nancy Spinks; stepfather, Henry Spinks; grandmother, Alice Harris of Liberty; sisters, Sandra Goldston of Siler City, Stephanie McRae of Asheboro, Shannon Harris of Liberty; brothers, Lamont Green and JaQuinton Harris, both of Liberty, Douglas Harris of Asheboro, Christopher Harris of Randleman, Stanley Harris and Keith Harris, both of Greensboro.

The family will be at C.C. Hodges Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-8 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home.

Speight D. Smith
ASHEBORO - Speight Dewey Smith, 80, of 1129 Oakland Ave., Asheboro, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at Clapp's Nursing Home, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with Pastor Paul Griffin and Pastor Tommy Kidd officiating. Burial will be in Deep River Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, retired from Randolph County Schools and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are wife, Elma Moon Smith of the home; son, Dewey Wayne Smith of Jamestown; daughter, Brenda S. Myers of Asheboro; brothers, Guy Smith and Grady Smith, both of Siler City; sisters, Eva Morris of Siler City, Ava Langley of Whitsett; two granddaughters.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of the daughter, 390 Back Creek Terrace, Asheboro.

Devoe L. Murchison
TRINITY - Devoe Lenwood Murchison, 81, of 4505 Hoover Hill Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Poplar Ridge Friends Meeting, where he was a member, with the Rev. Randy Quate officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a retired employee of Clarendon Industries, a member of the Christian Fellowship Sunday School Class at his church and a member of the Hillsville Civitan Club.

Surviving are wife, Rachel Thompson Murchison of the home; daughters, Lois Welborn of Trinity, Jois Roach of Thomasville; son, Lynn Murchison of Trinity; brother, Ralph Murchison of Burlington; sister, Shelby Murchison of Burlington; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, other times at the home.

He was a native of Guilford County, a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Alma Johnson Bowman of the home; daughter, Peggy B. Penny of Liberty; son, Alan R. Bowman of Liberty; brothers, Richard Bowman and Vann Bowman, both of Burlington, Donald Bowman of Wallace, Howard Bowman of Liberty; sister, Ruth B. Terrell of Burlington; two granddaughters.

The family will be at the home of the daughter, 4252 Alamance Church Road, Liberty.
