MT. GILEAD - Lois Zachary Hunsucker, 86, of 1224 N.C. 109 South, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Wadeville United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Glenn Hancock and the Rev. Gary Long officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County and a homemaker.

Surviving are son, Bobby Hunsucker of the home; brother, James Zachary of Mt. Gilead; sisters, Julia Haithcock of Troy, Mrs. Ben Ballard of Mt. Gilead; one granddaughter.

McKeithan Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, is in charge of the arrangements.

MT. GILEAD - Doris L. Little, 66, of C.C. Camp Road, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Center, Troy.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Stevens A.M.E. Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Richmond County and a former employee of Russell-Harvelle Hosiery Mill of Mt. Gilead.

ASHEBORO - Henry Neal Dean, 73, of 2564 Burney Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at his home.

Graveside service will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Original Church of God Cemetery, Lexington, with the Rev. Pat Eller and the Rev. Edmond Lambeth officiating.

He was a native of Austinville, Va.

Surviving are wife, Geraldine Williams Dean of Asheboro; daughters, Patsy Salyers, Nancy Casey, Evelyn Parham, all of Asheboro; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 1-3 p.m. Tuesday.

Rev. B. A. Harper Jr.
ASHEBORO - Rev. Burnie Alfine "Bill" Harper Jr., 76, of 1240 Henley Country Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at West Asheboro Church of God, with the Rev. Gary E. Harper, the Rev. Lawrence Leonhardt and the Rev. Thurman Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a retired Church of God minister, having served nine churches over the past 45 years. He received his Doctorate of Divinity in 1979, organized and pastored West Asheboro Church of God, was a Church of God district overseer and served on the state council.

Surviving are wife, Ruby Robbins Harper of the home; daughters, Billie Carol Sheeks of Kannapolis, Vickie H. Cox, Theresa H. Staley, both of Asheboro, Debbie H. Watson of Wilson; sons, Rev. Gary E. Harper of Henderson, Tony D. Harper of Asheboro; sisters, Viola Massingill of Hampton, Va., Barbara Rich of Asheboro; brothers, Oris Harper, Boyce Lee Harper, both of Asheboro; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 6-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, is in charge of the arrangements.

Bessie M. Voncannon
ASHEBORO - Bessie Magalene Marion Voncannon, 77, of 2970 N.C. 134, Asheboro, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Dan Neely officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Surry County, a homemaker and she attended Crestview Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are husband, Worth Voncannon of the home; daughter, Judy Nance of Asheboro; son, Thomas Claven Voncannon of the home; sisters, Lela Stanley of Dobson, Annie Hazelwood of Elkin; half sister, Georgie Wood of Dobson; stepsisters, Thelma Marion of Asheboro, Viola Kinney of High Point, Liza Wood of Dobson; brother, B. J. Marion of High Point; half brother, Junior Stanley of Thomasville; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - Lloyd Henry Von Cannon, 85, of 1948 Mack Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at West Asheboro Church of God, where he was a member, with the Rev. Thurman Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Asheboro, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, retired from G.E., and he started the Randolph Rifle Club.

Surviving are wife, Vivian Lowe Von Cannon of Asheboro; daughters, Marsha Neale Von Cannon, Martha Lynn Nance, both of Asheboro, Janet Maria Kiser of Cary, Mary Gwyn Steed of Denton; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

RAMSEUR - Irene Welborn Burns, 89, of 317 Elam Ave., died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, with the Rev. Mary Miller and the Rev. Larry Moore officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Christian Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of William Otis Burns, a homemaker, and a member of the Renoca Garden Club, Jordan Memorial United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women.

Surviving are son, Joe Burns of Asheboro; daughters, Kathryn Nichols, Betty Barker, both of Ramseur, Mary Ward of Asheboro; brother, Charlie Welborn of Asheboro; sister, Chloe Jones of Ramseur; one grandson; one great-grandson.

The family will be at the funeral home, 7-9 p.m. Monday.

She was a native of Union County.

CARTHAGE - Leon Douglas Kennedy, 59, of 319 Pond View Drive, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at his home.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, with the Rev. Jimmy Shirlen officiating.

He was a native of Guilford County.

Surviving are wife, Mary Cagle Kennedy of Robbins; sons, Leon James Kennedy of Robbins, Lloyd Douglas Kennedy of Carthage; daughter, Lisa Beasley of Robbins; brothers, James "Jimmy" Kennedy of Asheboro, Frankie Kennedy, Charles Kennedy, both of Robbins; nine grandchildren.

CARTHAGE - Ronnie Maples, 55, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Flint Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev William Hancock officiating. Burial will be in Cameron Cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County.

Surviving are wife, Redell Hall Maples; daughter, Pat Elkins of Robbins; son, Terry Maples of Sanford; mother, Elizabeth H. Maples of Winston-Salem; sister, Dean Carlyle of Winston-Salem; brother, Phil Maples of Spring Lake; four grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of the daughter, 251 Frye St., Robbins.

Edward A. Crisco
SANFORD - Edward Arthur Crisco, 86, of 108 Humber St., died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Olivia Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. George Walton officiating. Burial will be the church cemetery.

He was a native of Cabarrus County.

Surviving are wife, Eva I. Shular Crisco of the home; sons, John F. Crisco of Eagle River, Alaska, Alvis W. Crisco of Sanford, Larry W. Crisco of Olivia; daughters, Brenda Gaster, Edwina Murchison, both of Sanford, Ann Asbill of Asheboro; sisters, Hattie Blanton of Asheboro, Sally Tindall of Wilmington; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

ASHEBORO - Irene Mary Bailey, 73, of 3262 Staley Farm Road, Asheboro, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Tim Fonner officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Washington County, Tenn., a member of Russells Grove Baptist Church, formerly employed with Burlington Industries and was retired from Stedman Manufacturing.

Surviving are brothers, Harden Slagle, Robert Slagle, John Slagle, Weldon Slagle, all of Jonesboro, Tenn.; sisters, Nora Walls of Jonesboro, Tenn., Dorothy Norris of Ramseur, Lucille Haney of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home after the service.

ASHEBORO - Stella Gladys Hare Rose, 94, of 4654 U.S. 220 Business, Asheboro, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Russell's Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Tim Fonner, the Rev. Bobby Goodman and the Rev. Tommy Butler officiating. Burial will be the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, the widow of Coy Rose and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughter, Ruth Hunter of Riverside, Calif.; sons, Harvey Coy Rose of Simi Valley, Calif., Blythe Lee Rose of Sylva, Alfred Reginald Rose of Asheboro; sisters, Nonnie Beane of Randleman, Jewell Sheppard of Asheboro; brother, Boyd Hare of Seagrove; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Allan Garner, 215 Coy Stella Trail, Asheboro.

RANDLEMAN - Timothy Lynn Taylor, 44, of 5826 Fred Lineberry Road, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Neighbors Grove Wesleyan Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Wesley Jones, Brother Thurman Jenkins and the Rev. Paul Griffin officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Guilford County, employed with Marconi Commerce System in Greensboro and was a 1974 graduate of Randleman High School.

Surviving are wife, Teresa Saunders Taylor of Randleman; son, Christopher Taylor of the home; daughters, Heather Taylor and Kati Taylor, both of the home; mother, Helen L. Taylor of Randleman; grandmother, Hallie Lanier of Randleman; brother, Gary Taylor of Randleman.

He was a native of Chatham County, retired owner-operator of Friendly Cleaners, and a former church treasurer.

Surviving are wife, Ruby Willette Andrew of Siler City; daughters, Carolyn A. Cotner of Siler City, Kay A. Ellison of Asheboro, Ruth A. Underwood of Greensboro; brother, Van C. Andrew of Siler City; sister, Helen A. Fogleman of Liberty; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

He was a native of Cleveland County, a member of Pilgram Baptist Church in Ellenboro and was a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Barbara S. Bell of the home; sister, Fern Crawford of Shelby; brothers, Manuel Bell of Kings Mountain, Lowry Bell of Shelby.

RANDLEMAN - Lester G. Jarrell, 96, of Randleman, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at White Oak Manor Nursing Center in Burlington.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, with the Rev. Don Hurlburt and the Rev. James L. Denny officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, former owner of Diamond Cab Co. in Asheboro and Randleman, former Packard auto dealer in Asheboro, a farmer, and was a member of First Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are son, Glenn D. Jarrell of Burlington; daughter, Joyce J. Hamilton of Greensboro; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Howard T. "Jim" Smith
MT. GILEAD - Howard Taft "Jim" Smith, 91, of 112 N.C. 731 West, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Blackwood Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary McNeil officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Stanly County and was retired operator of Jim Smith's Grocery in Pekin.

Surviving are wife, Alberta Reynolds Smith of the home; daughters, Yvonne Dale of Troy, Barbara S. Russell of Marietta, Ga.; sisters, Flora Hutchinson of Polkton, Ruth Dennis of Ellerbe; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at McKeithan Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.
