MT. GILEAD - Minnie Dale Leake, 89, of 311 CC Camp Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at Autumn Care of Biscoe.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at St. Stephens Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Roosevelt Wall officiating.
She was a native of Richmond County.

ASHEBORO - James Edward Shaw Sr., 83, of 1026 S. Cox St., Asheboro, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Jean Nall officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.
He was a native of Randolph County, retired from the U.S. Postal Service, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Surviving are wife, Helen McKay Shaw; daughter, Linda Shaw of Asheboro; son, James "Jim" E. Shaw Jr. of State Road; sister, Ruby Martin of Asheboro; brothers, Worth O. Shaw, Clyde T. Shaw, both of Asheboro; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

He was a native of Moore County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and was retired from United Brass Works.

TRINITY - Robert Baxter Evans, 94, former resident of Graybrier Nursing Home, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at High Point Care Center.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Trinity, where he was a member, with the Rev. James Harris Jr. and the Rev. William Hill officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.
He was native of Randolph County, employed for many years with Southern Railway and was retired from Eckerd Drugs.

MONROE - Richard S. Clark, 74, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at Hospice House of Union County.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Henry Presler officiating.
He was a native of Anson County, a graduate of Wake Forest College and Wake Forest Law School, and had practiced law in Asheboro from 1951-1960.
Surviving are wife, Margaret Gerock Clark; daughters, Connie Hiltz, Mary "Meg" Swindler, Elizabeth Woody, all of Charlotte, Nancy Smith of Hickory; brother, James W. Clark of Greensboro; seven grandchildren.

She was a native of Fingerville, S.C., the widow of Frank E. Baiden Sr., a graduate of Limestone College and a retired teacher with the Horry County School System. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Myrtle Beach Pilot Club.
Surviving are sons, Frank E. "Ebbie" Baiden Jr. of Myrtle Beach, Charles W. Baiden of Asheboro; daughter, Mary Frances Merritt of Surfside Beach, S.C.; sister, Frances M. McMillan of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Military memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at New Hope United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Brad Thie and retired Chaplain Major Mary A. Pitts officiating. A private burial will be in New Hope UMC cemetery at a later date.
He was a native of Elkin, a retired electronics technician and was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran.

She was a site manager for Senior Citizens at Burnetts Chapel Church, a member of Guilford Homemakers Club, participated in Meals on Wheels and attended Friendship Baptist Church.
Surviving are daughter, Sheila H. Wilson of Daytona Beach, Fla.; son, J. Fred Hamrick of Greensboro; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Moore County, the widow of both Clinton H. Scott and Alton B. Garner, was a member of Willing Workers Sunday School Class and W.M.S. at her church and was a retired nursing assistant.
Surviving are daughter, Linda Scott Maness of Robbins; sister, Blanche M. Brown of Greensboro; brothers, Howard B. Maness, J. Richard Maness, both of Robbins; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

CARTHAGE - Welborn "Webb" Davis, 87, of 712 Sunset Drive, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Carthage United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Terry Huffines officiating. Entombment will be in Cross Hill Cemetery Mausoleum.
He was a native of Randolph County, retired from U.S. Army Division of Transportation, had served as lay speaker, Sunday school teacher, on the Trustees and Administrative Council and was active in the men's club. He had helped in the Boy Scouts of America as a Scoutmaster and with the Order of the Arrow, was a retired volunteer of Carthage Fire Department, a member of Carthage Masonic Lodge #181 A.F. & A.M., the Moore County Shrine Club, past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star and delivered for Meals on Wheels.
Surviving are wife, Katheryn McIntosh Davis; sons, Michael "Mickey" Welborn Davis of Atlanta, Ga., Edwin Lawrence "Larry" Davis of Forrest, Va.; five grandchildren.
