STALEY - Harmon H. Smith, 83, of 310 N. Main St., died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Staley Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Lindsay officiating, Burial will be in Staley Cemetery.

He was a native of Patrick County, Va., and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are wife, Sarah Yarborough Smith of the home; daughter, Sherry Jordan of Staley; son, Hughes "Bill" Smith of Staley; sisters, Esther Williamson of Robbins, Mary Vic of California; brother, Patrick Smith of Red Springs; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Allen E. Atkins Jr.
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Allen Eugene Atkins Jr., 67, formerly of Carthage, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, in Hempstead, N.Y.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Alston Chapel United Church of Christ, Haw Branch, N.C., where he was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, the widower of Gwen Cox Atkins, a graduate of Pinkney High School in Carthage, and a Sunday School teacher at his church. He was a U.S. Army veteran where he received good conduct medals, and was employed with Malloy Brothers in Freeport, N.Y. and in Bethpage, N.Y.

Surviving are daughter, Sherryl Bacon of Douglasville, Ga.; sister, Cora Atkins of Fayetteville.

The family will be at the church 1-2 p.m. Friday, prior to the service.

Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, is in charge of the local arrangements.

Frank E. Routh
RANDLEMAN - Frank Ernest Routh, 72, of 103 Oak Lane Ave., died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at the VA Medical Center in Durham.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, with the Rev. David McCauley and the Rev. W. Don Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Marlboro Friends Meeting Cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, formerly employed with Guilford Mills in Greensboro and was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are wife, Evelyn Jarrell Routh of Randleman; daughters, Frankie R. Ingold and Karen E. Routh, both of Randleman; sisters, Clara Bulla, Wilma Burrow, both of Asheboro, Jane Reich of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Faith Christian School, 5449 Brookhaven Road, Ramseur, N.C. 27316.

LEVEL CROSS - Winifred Robert Vickory, 89, of 783 Branson Mill Road, died Wednesday Feb. 28, 2001, at Wesley Long Community Hospital, Greensboro.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Level Cross United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ken Day officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County and a retired masonry contractor.

Surviving are son, Robert Vickory of Stokesdale; daughter, Faye Dewar of Climax; stepdaughter, Joretta Holt of Asheboro; sister, Ann Owens of Level Cross; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church following the memorial service.

TROY - Lucille Batten Skeen, 86, of Haines City, Fla., died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Integrated Health Services in Auburndale, Fla.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Laurel Hill Baptist Church, Candor, with the Rev. Robert Hittepole and Dr. Don Davis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of Burton C. "Bill" Skeen, she was a member of Westside Baptist Church, Haines City, Fla., and of the Professional Business Women's Association, and managed Jane Anne's Dress Shoppe in Haines City.

Surviving are sons, Jimmy Ray Skeen of Alturas, Fla., David Arlan Skeen of Seagrove; brothers, Frank Batten of Biscoe, Verdon Batten of Candor; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at 9311 U.S. 220 Alternate South, Seagrove.

David L. Leonard
LEXINGTON - David "Dave" LIoyd Leonard, 81, of Rhodes Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Friday at Beck's United Church of Christ, where he was a member, with the Rev. Edward Rawls, the Rev. Eric Disher and Dr. Billy Joe Leonard officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3074.

He was a native of Davidson County, owner and operator of Leonard Sawmill, was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and was a member of VFW Post #3074, American Legion Post 8 and Amvets Post 13.

Surviving are wife, Cornelia "Connie" Canoy Leonard of the home; sons, Dwayne Leonard and Dwight Leonard, both of Lexington; daughters, Davida "Dee" Beck, Davonna Hendley, Darlynn Guest, all of Lexington; eight grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington, 6-8 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

He was the owner/operator of D.C. Saunders Paving & Grading Co.

Surviving are sister, Dianne S. Byrd of Pinebluff; brothers, Darrell Saunders of Trinity, Dwight Saunders of Asheboro.

James B. Sheffield Sr.
ROBBINS - James Baxter Sheffield Sr., 92, of 140 Trivett Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at Pinelake Health Center in Carthage.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Brown's Chapel Christian Church, with the Rev. Brady Stephens officiating. Burial, with Military Honors, will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a member of Robbins V.F.W. Post #9245, and was a retired farmer.

Surviving are daughter, Barbara S. Culberson of Robbins; sons, Everett E. Sheffield of Greensboro, Raymond M. Sheffield of Hendersonville, James B. Sheffield Jr. of Robbins; sisters, Alice S. Hussey and Ruth S. Williamson, both of Robbins, Ella S. Woodard of Greelyville, S.C.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - Anna Marie Kindley Hunt, 74, of 5800 U.S. 64 West, Asheboro, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Baptist Missionary Church, where she was a former member, with the Rev. Jody Harrison and the Rev. Claudie Harrison officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Winfred O. Hunt Sr., and was retired from Sara Lee Corp.

Surviving are sons, Winfred O'Neil Hunt Jr., Jerry Wayne Hunt, both of Asheboro; sisters, Edith McElreath, Juanita Holifield, both of Asheboro, Lois Dickens, Stella Edwards, both of Franklinville; brothers, William Kindley of Florida, Bennie Lee Kindley of Trinity; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. O'Neil Hunt, 352 Hoover Hill Road, Asheboro.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Verdie Nixon, and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Lillie Mae Seegers of Inverness, Fla., Margaret Lednum of Franklinville, Louise Nixon Glasgow of Staley; sons, Bobby Gene Nixon of Liberty, Wesley Nixon of Randleman; sister, Leona Boone of Franklinville; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, 6-8 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of Margaret Lednum, 3294 Kidds Mill Road, Franklinville.

SILER CITY - Winfred Walden, 48, of 264 W. Green Hill Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Jordan Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Gene Horton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was former employee of Ramtex and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

Surviving are mother and stepfather, Cleo Strickland and Maloy Strickland of the home; brother, Charles Matthews of Upper Marlboro, Md.

The family will at Farrar Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-8 p.m. Friday.

Frances J. Lambeth
LEXINGTON - Frances McDonald Jenkins Lambeth, 83, of Britthaven of Davidson, Thomasville, died Thursday, March 1, 2001, at Britthaven.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington, with the Rev. Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Worthville Cemetery, Worthville.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of John Andrew Jenkins and John Henry Lambeth, and was a homemaker. She was a nurse at Lexington Memorial, a private duty nurse and was a member of Worthville United Methodist Church.

Surviving are sons, Gary T. Jenkins of Thomasville, John W. Jenkins, Andrew F. Jenkins, both of Lexington, John Henry Lambeth Jr. of Linwood; daughters, Connie J. Carrick, Johnette Lambeth, both of Lexington, Joan Ann Cope of Linwood, Tamra Lambeth-Mell of Greensboro; sisters, Joy Lee Dicks of Randleman, Joe Ann McGee of Worthville, Mildred Martin of Wilson; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Friday, other times at their homes.

DENTON - Roy Lee Lambeth, 51, of 6048 Brantley Gordon Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at his home.

He was a native of Randolph County, was employed with Klaussner Furniture Industries and he attended Old Fashion Freewill Baptist Church.

Surviving are wife, Glenda Lucas Lambeth of the home; sons, Todd Lambeth and Chris Lambeth, both of the home; daughter, Tammy Boyles of Denton; mother, Eva Mae Lambeth of Denton; sister, Earlene Brown of Asheboro; two grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, Troy, with the Rev. Mike Elliott officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery with military honors.

He was a native of Montgomery County, the retired owner of Captain Pete's Seafood in Murrells Inlet, he attended Trinity UMC and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran where he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

Surviving are wife, Betty Lemons Warner of the home; sons, Edwin Warner of Albemarle, Jim Warner of Murrells Inlet, S.C., Barna Warner of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; daughter, Sara Causey of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of Edwin Warner, 1503 Melchor Road, Albemarle.

BISCOE - Ethel Freeman Bost Galloway, 94, of 429 Arrow Trail, died Thursday, March 1, 2001, at Pinehurst Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Eagle Springs Cemetery, with the Rev. Dawes Graybeal officiating.

She was a native of Moore County, the widow of Daniel Edgar "Ed" Bost and Steve Galloway, a homemaker and a member of Page Memorial UMC in Biscoe.

Surviving are daughter, Doris Parsons of Biscoe; sons, Clarence Bost of Pinehurst, James E. Bost of Pearland, Texas; stepdaughters, Jessie Galloway of Chapel Hill, Shirley McAllister of Laurel Hill; stepsons, Dwight Galloway of Chapel Hill, Curtis Galloway of Sanford; sister, Edna Lee of Albemarle; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Bellview A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial will be in New Zion Cemetery.

Surviving are daughters, Phyllis Dowdy of Carthage, Nannette Myatt, Theonia Person, both of Robbins, Faith Barnes of Germany; son, Harrison Myatt Jr. of Greensboro; brother, Robert Caddell Sr. of Robbins; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Person Funeral Home, Robbins, 5-7 p.m. Friday.

Venita E. Journey
ASHEBORO - Venita Emery Journey of 3072 Pierce Meadow Road, Denton, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

She was a native of Moore County.

Surviving are husband, Timothy W. Journey; sister, Melissa Emery Allen of Denton; parents, Marshall and Doris Hussey Emery of Denton.

The family will be at the home.
