RANDLEMAN - Harold Ferguson Allred, 72, of 517 Worthville St., died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Bethany United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David McCauley, the Rev. Roy Sides and the Rev. Michael Swaford officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Orange County, a 1946 graduate of Nathaniel Green School, a U.S. Army veteran, was retired from Eveready Battery Co. and had worked for Roses.

Surviving are wife, Evon Caudle Allred of Randleman; daughters, Debbie Kennington of Asheboro, Lori Talbert of Cedar Falls; sons, Gene Allred of Climax, Kevin Allred of Tampa, Fla.; sister, Helen Allred Fogleman of Whitsett; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Dr. Marion R. Blair
TRINITY - Dr. Marion R. Blair, 69, of 956 Harris Road, died Monday, March 19, 2001, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Strieby Congregational United Church of Christ, Asheboro, with the Rev. Ronald Coleman officiating. Burial wiIl be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., a U.S. Army veteran, a graduate of N.C. A&T State University, and of Indiana University with a Doctor of Eucation degree and was the former pastor of Strieby Congregational.

Surviving are wife, Owena A. Blair; son, Edward Francis of Atlanta, Ga.; daughters, Erika Y. Cook of Atlanta, Ga., Shauneille Y. Blair of New York, Sharon L. Blair of Indianapolis, Ind., Allison P. Pickett of the home.

C.C. Hodges Funeral Service, Asheboro, is in charge of the arrangements.

Jessie R. Bradley
SILER CITY - Jessie Ritter Bradley, 74, of 166 Fairway Drive, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at her home.

A celebration of life service will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Jim Wall officiating.

She was a native of Moore County, the widow of Lester L. Bradley and a member of the Esther Sunday School class and of the Benevolent Committee at her church. She was Past Matron of Eastern Star, Siler City #9, a member of the Order of the White Shrine of Jesusalem, Gate City Shrine #2 and the Order of the Amaranth Trial Court #13.

Surviving are daughters, Cathy Ellen Bradley of Greensboro, Susan B. Whitesell of Siler City; sister, Betty R. Babyak of Raleigh; three grandsons; one great-grandson.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, and at the church immediately following the service.

David T. Robbins
ASHEBORO - David Thomas Robbins, 63, 4076 U.S. 64 East, Asheboro, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Ridge Christian Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Jeff Stapleton and the Rev. Jeff Maness. Burial will be in Pleasant Cross Christian Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a retired home builder and was retired from Automatic Vending Service. He taught Automotive Mechanics at Randleman High School and was a Korean War U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are wife, Peggy Jean Horner Robbins of the home; brother, Colbert Robbins of Randleman.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday.

FRANKLINVILLE - Squire Woodrow Sams, 82, of 6627 Old Liberty Road, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Cool Springs Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Harmon and the Rev. Keith Bischer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Stokes County, the widower of Mary Mabe Sams, was retired from Guy Turner, was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and he attended Cool Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are stepson, Kenneth Homes of Franklinville; stepdaughters, Gladys Jarvis of Regis Falls, N.Y., Margaret Daniels of Asheboro, Janette Allred, Rhoda Harmon, both of Franklinville; brother, Roy Sams of Trinity; 21 stepgrandchildren; 18 stepgreat-grandchildren; three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the home of Rhoda Harmon, 2788 Cool Springs Church Road, Franklinville.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Edna Frye Boone, was retired from Lucks Inc. and was a member of Victory Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Jane Crotts, Nancy Boone, both of Asheboro; son, David Boone of Asheboro; sisters, Ronie Martin of South Carolina, Marnie Lucas, Margie Sink, Jacksie Poe, all of Asheboro, Conie McNeill of Seagrove; brother, Alvie Boone of Asheboro; two grandsons; two stepgrandaughters; four stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was the widow of Coy Martin.

Surviving are daughters, Judy Kissell, Kay McCallum, both of Biscoe, Debbie Robertson; sons, Fred Martin, Richard Martin, both of Biscoe; sisters, Ruth Williams of Burgaw, Mildred Staley of Morehead City; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Carol P. Chalfinch
CARTHAGE - Carol Paul Chalfinch, 79, of 11428 N.C. 24/27, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church, where he was a charter member, with the Rev Fred Richardson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Aiken, S.C., a retired truck driver for the Millikan Company after 40 years and a retired dairy farmer, and was on the board of deacons and board of trustees at his church.

Surviving are wife, Ruby Horner Chalfinch of the home; daughters, Carolyn C. Burr and Amanda C. Davis, both of Carthage, Deborah C. Pickard of Vinita, Okla.; sister, Dollie Nipper of Jacksonville, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Saturday, other times at the home of Carolyn Burr, 11389 N.C. 24/27 Carthage.

Nora L. Durant
CASPER, Wyo. - Nora L. Durant, 75, of Casper, Wyo., died Monday, March 19, 2001, at Central Wyoming Hospice Home.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, where she was a member, with Father Philip Colibraro officiating.

She was a native of Randleman, and a member of St. Ann's Circle and the Telephone Pioneers.

Surviving are husband, John P. Durant of Casper, Wyo.; son, Richard Spees of Sheridan, Wyo.; sisters, Nettie Young of Burlington, Nellie Brady of Sophia; brother, John Lucas of Asheboro.

The family will be at Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and Crematory in Casper, 2-8 p.m. Friday.

ASHEBORO - Estelle Berry Cranford Jarrell, 92, of 678 Gold Hill Road, Asheboro, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro. Burial will be in Asheboro City Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Bill Cranford and Frank Jarrell, and was a homemaker.

Surviving are son, Bob Cranford of Asheboro; daughter, Louise Boring of Asheboro; brother, Paul Berry of Asheboro; sister, Virginia Berry of Asheboro; stepdaughters, Julia Howell, Barbara Nance, both of Asheboro; stepsons, Bill Jarrell, Bobby Jarrell, both of Asheboro; three grandchildren; 14 stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and 15 stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

MT. GILEAD - Rev. Philip McKay Hutchinson Sr., 81, of 128 Pee Dee Road, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Mt. Gilead, with the Rev. Chris Cadenhead and the Rev. Raleigh Castelloe officiating. Burial will be in Sharon Cemetery.

He was a native of Richmond County, a graduate of Mars Hill College and of Wake Forest University and was a retired Baptist minister. He pastored churches in Greensboro, Rocky Mount, Alexandria, Va., and Montgomery County. He was director of missions for the Montgomery Baptist Association and was the owner and operator of Phil's Trading Post in WadevilIe.

Surviving are wife, Helen Parnell Hutchinson of the home; son, Philip M. "Mack" Hutchinson Jr. of Sanford; daughters, Rose E. Rhoads of Hickman, Tenn., Mary H. Troutman of New London; sister, Kitty Belle Hoover of Mt. Gilead; three granddaughters; one great-grandson.

The family will be at McKeithan Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday.

BENNETT - Paul Edwin "Red" Cheek, 75, of 2319 N.C. 22/42, died Thursday, March 23, 2001, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Fall Creek Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Ronnie Chaney and the Rev. Darrell Williams officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County and a poultry and cattle farmer.

Surviving are wife, Hazel Currie Cheek of the home; daughter, Brenda Allison of Bennett; sons, Ronnie Cheek of Bennett, Tony Cheek of Siler City; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren.

He was a native of Randolph County, a farmer, and had been employed at Randolph Mills in Franklinville. He attended Friendly Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are sister, Patty W. Luther of Staley; brother, R.D. Williams of Staley.

CARTHAGE - Jessie Victoria Cooper Denny, 86, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at Pinelake Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at White Hill Presbyterian Church, where she was a lifelong member, with the Rev. Dr. Greg Poplin and Elder Calvin Harward officiating. Burial will be in Lamms Grove Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of J. Allen Denny, and had served as deacon and elder at her church.

Surviving are daughters, Nancy D. Barr of Clemmons, Kathy D. Lawhon of Pittsburgh, Penn., Melany D. McFall of Chapel Hill; sons, J. Henry Denny of Carthage, E. Ray Denny of Raleigh; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday, other times at 1020 Lamms Grove Road, Carthage.

Dr. Linda M. Hunt
DENTON - Dr. Linda Margaret Hunt, 53, of South Bend, Ind., formerly of Denton, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

Funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. Monday, at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, with the Rev. Joe Collins officiating. Burial will be in Denton Town Cemetery.

She was a native of Davidson County, and graduated from Denton High School and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and had taught in the Biology Department of the University of Notre Dame.

Surviving are mother, Margaret Smith Hunt of Denton; brother, Erwin Maxwell Hunt of Denton; sister, Dr. Ann H. Hunt of Indianapolis, Ind.

The family will be at the funeral home 4-5:30 p.m. Sunday.

Louise L. Brown
WINSTON-SALEM - Louise Lamkin Brown, 90, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at her home.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with the Rev. David Greene officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.

She was a native of Greensboro, the widow of Lewis James Brown, and was a longtime member of Green St. United Methodist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Faye Keiger of Winston-Salem; son, Gene T. Brown of Apopka, Fla.; brother, Max E. Lamkin of Ft. Myers, Fla.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Rosa L. Riddle
BISCOE - Rosa Belle Luther Riddle, 86, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Autumn Care Nursing Home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Main Street Baptist Church of Biscoe, with the Rev. Lacy Frye and the Rev. Russell Craddock officiating. Burial will be in Biscoe Cemetery.

She was a native of Montgomery County, the widow of Frank Riddle, and was a homemaker.

Surviving are daughter, Eve R. Jackson of Star; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church one hour before the service, other times at the home of Eva Jackson.
