Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home, Thomasville, with the Rev. Ben Shepherd officiating. Burial will be in Holly Hill Cemetery.

She was a native of Lenoir, the widow of George W. Smith and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Mary Faye Phillips of Lenoir; stepdaughter, Ray Nell Crook of Ramseur; stepsons, Ray Von Smith of Thomasville, Boyd Smith of Toledo, Ohio; sisters, Alma Manns, Ruth Hollar, both of Thomasville, Mildred Boughman of Lenoir; brother, James Kincaid of High Point; half sisters, Faye Spell, Nancy Walker, both of Thomasville; half brothers, Jack Kincaid of Lenoir, Sam Kincaid of Thomasville.

Bettye Moffitt
SILER CITY - Bettye Moffitt of 812 Church St. died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at her home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are son, Anthony Moffitt of Siler City; sister, Wilma Siler of Siler City; brother, Larry Moffitt of Siler City; three grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 7-8 p.m. Sunday.

MT. GILEAD - Bobby Lee Richardson, 49, of 641 Hydro Road, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Evans Rest Home, Mt. Gilead.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Hamer Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Alex Willoughby officiating. Graveside military rites will be by VFW Post #10940.

He was a native of Montgomery County, a U.S. Army veteran and a retired farmer.

Surviving are sons, Joseph Richardson of Albemarle, Cregg Richardson of Mt. Gilead; mother, Bernice J. Richardson of Mt. Gilead; brother, John Richardson of St. Augustine, Fla.; sister, Joyce Simpson of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two grandchildren.

The family will be at McKeithan Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, 5-7 p.m. Sunday.

STUART, Fla. - Betsy Ross Bevis, 91, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at her home.

Memorial service will be held later in the week at First Presbyterian Church of Stuart, Fla.

She was a native of Asheboro, a member of First Presbyterian Church of Stuart, a member of the Board of Advisors for Planned Parenthood of the Treasure Coast, and a member of the Garden Club, Martin Memorial Ladies Auxiliary and A.A.U.W.

Surviving are daughters, Beverly B. Jones of Stuart, Fla., Cheryl B. Crowl of Ridgefield, Conn.; sons, J. Ross Bevis of Princeton Junction, N.J., James Norton Bevis of Redondo Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - Russell Garland Trogdon, 81, of 234 Northview Drive, Asheboro, died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Danny Hostler and the Rev. Carl Zeigler officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Asheboro, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, attended Oakwood Park Baptist Church and was a retired brick mason with King & Hunter Construction of Greensboro.

Surviving are wife, Elma Lee Trogdon; daughters, Bonnie T. Edwards, Patsy T. McGrath, Teresa T. McNeill, all of Asheboro, Sandra T. Curry of Lexington; sons, Carlton Trogdon of Swansboro, Russell Garland Trogdon Jr. of Newport News, Va.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Glenn F. Jones
DENTON - Glenn Fogleman Jones, 77, of 964-18 Loflin Hill Road, Trinity, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Graybriar Retirement Center, Trinity.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at High Rock Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Ray Swaney and the Rev. Billy Joe Yates officiating. Burial will be in Pierce's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Surry County, the widower of Rachel Maie Summey Jones and a retired truck driver.

Surviving are sons, Glenn Michael Jones of Valrico, Fla., Roger Dale Jones of Flowery Branch, Ga.; daughters, Glenda Ann Corneil, Rachel Kay Rau, both of Sterling Heights, Mich., Kelly Ann LaJoie of Trinity; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home.

SILER CITY - Barbara Crump Grass, 64, of 502 W. 6th St., died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Chatham Hospital, Siler City.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Oakwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Jackie Franks officiating.

She was a native of Richmond, Va., a seamstress and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are father, J.H. Crump of Siler City; sons, Ben Dixon of Seamore, Tenn., Eddie Dixon, Doug Dixon, Chris Dixon, all of Siler City; brother, Joseph H. Crump II of Siler City; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

ROBBINS - Flossie A. Johnson, 102, of 399 Brower Road, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at her home.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Bear Creek Congregation Church, Robbins. Burial will be in New Zion Cemetery.

Surviving are daughters, Roberta Brower and Lydia Nails, both of Robbins.

The family will be at the church 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, with a celebration of life following from 7-8 p.m.

GASTONIA - Shirley Summey Setzer, 64, of 1514 Edinborough Lane, died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at her home.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, where she was a member, with the Rev. Jim Dumond officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Dallas.

She was a native of Gaston County, a graduate of Lenior-Rhyne College and was retired from Gaston County School System.

Surviving are husband, Giles G. Setzer; sons, Tim Setzer of Asheboro, Bryan Setzer of Matthews; mother, Queen M. Summey of Dallas; sisters, Frances Goins, Patsy Sellers, Linda Hoyle, all of Dallas; three granddaughters.

The family will be at McLean Funeral Directors, Gastonia, 7-8:30 p.m. Monday.

ASHEBORO - Arthur Bryan "Butter" Miller, 89, of 728 Westmont Drive, Asheboro, died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at his home.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with Dr. Boyd Stokes and Dr. J. C. Grose Jr. officiating.

He was a native of Asheboro, served on the administrative board at his church, worked for the half-hose division of Burlington Industries for 35 years as purchasing agent, and he was a member of the Asheboro Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow.

Surviving are wife, Mary Lib Stevens Miller; daughters, Caroline Strong of Baltimore, Md., Elizabeth Slate of St. Augustine, Fla., Mary Bryan Russell of Winston-Salem; sister, Christine Gray of Asheboro; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; four stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church immediately following the memorial service.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Dr. Richard Crider officiating. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in King.

She was a native of Jamestown, the widow of Corbett Bennett, was retired from Laughlin Hosiery Mill and was a member of Russell's Grove Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Mary Ann Ingold of Asheboro, Dixie Bennett of Kernersville, Gaynell Bryant of Goldsboro; sons, Len Bennett of Kernersville, Rex Bennett of Winston-Salem, Jimmy Bennett of North Carolina, Steve Bennett of Tennessee; sister, Faye Tysinger of Asheboro; brother, Richard Fairrington of Asheboro; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Ingold, 3908 U.S. 220 Business South, Asheboro.

LIBERTY - Sadie Bowden, of 5489 Alamance Line Drive, died Sunday, May 6, 2001.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at True Gospel Holiness Church, Liberty, with the Rev. Harold Garner officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Surviving are granddaughter, Magaline Shoffner of the home; foster daughter, Annie M. Kimes of Liberty; one grandson; five great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the home of Magaline and Henry Shoffner, 5489 Alamance Line Drive, Tuesday night, and at the church 2-3 p.m. Wednesday.

GREENSBORO - John "Jack" S. Heathcock, 75, died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Forbis and Dick Funeral Home, North Elm Street Chapel, with the Rev. Steve Walsh officiating. Graveside service will be 3:30 p.m. in Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro, with military rites.

He was a native of Randolph County, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, retired from Gilbarco, now Marconi, after 23 years, and he attended Southside Baptist Church in Greensboro.

Surviving are wife, Sarah I. Heathcock of the home; son, James Samuel Heathcock of Climax; daughter, Janice H. Jarrett of Greensboro; sister, Thelma McCaskill of Biscoe; four grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Wanda H. Chalflinch
ROBBINS - Wanda Hussey Chalflinch, 45, of 3239 Cedar Hill Road, died Sunday, May 7, 2001, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Needham's Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. James E. Cockram officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, a member of the church choir, a Sunday School teacher and a former employee at the Moore County Sheriff's Office.

Surviving are husband, Patrick Chalflinch; son, Austin Clay Chalflinch of the home; mother, Ruth Kennedy Hussey of Seagrove; sister, Wilda Hussey of Seagrove; brothers, Wayne Hussey of Seagrove, Wendell Hussey of Robbins.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Ruth Hussey 9566 Erect Road.

She was a native of Culpeper, Va., the widow of Richard C. Willenborg Sr., and a homemaker.

Surviving are son, Richard Willenborg Jr. of Coleridge; daughters, Kathleen Logan of Canton, Marjorie Grubb, Pamela Simmons, both of Coleridge, Beverly Confer of Yanceyville; sisters, Ruth Goss, Sadie Apperson, Hazel Chris, all of Virginia, Barbara Faulkner of Texas; brother, Marvin Faulkner of Virginia; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

DENTON - Grace Amoroso Badgett, 80, of Cranford Road, died Monday, May 7, 2001, in Kernersville.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Clear Springs United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Sandy Young officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Washington, D.C., the widow of William Cicero Badgett, was retired from Prince Georges County Maryland schools, and was a member of Mt. Vernon Ladies Auxiliary in Washington, D.C.

Surviving are sons, William S. Badgett of Charlotte, Gary A. Badgett of Kernersville; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

MT. GILEAD - Jimmy Lee Haywood, 59, of 327 Northview Road, died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County and the lead singer of the gospel group, The Singing Stars.

Surviving are wife, Margery Lindsay Haywood of the home; father, R.B. Haywood of Mt. Gilead; sisters, Susie Bell Haywood, Lena Mae Haywood, both of Mt. Gilead, Patricia H. Washington of Badin, Barbara Scarboro of Connecticut; brothers, Carl Lacy Haywood of Albemarle, Mike Scarboro of Mt. Gilead; two grandchildren.

The family will be at the home.

LUMBERTON -Walter Russell Burrow, 79, of 513 Boone Road, died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Floyd Memorial Chapel in Lumberton, with the Rev. Raymond Ellis officiating. Burial will be in Franklinville United Methodist Church cemetery at 4 p.m.

He was a graduate of Liberty Bible College, and had the radio program, "Gospel of Grace" for more than 30 years.

Surviving are wife, Lula Burrow of the home; son, Steve Burrow of Lumberton; daughters, Brenda Hicks of Coleridge, Delane Noel of Asheboro; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Lynn L. Ledbetter
HIGH POINT - Lynn Little Ledbetter, 79, of 3905 LaSalle Drive, formerly of Randleman, died Monday, May 7, 2001, at Carolina Commons Nursing Home, Greensboro.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman.

He was a native of Guilford County, a retired employee from Curtis Packing in Greensboro, a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Climax, a War World II U.S. Army veteran and he attended Pleasant Garden School.

Surviving is daughter, Susan Ledbetter of High Point.

The family will be at the funeral home immediately following the service.

Memorials may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
