She was a native of Randolph County and was retired from Drexel Heritage Furniture Co.

She was a native of Montgomery, Ala., the widow of Marvin B. Smith and a retired civilian analyst for the U.S. Navy.
Surviving are sisters, Jettie Smith, Annie Lee Allen, both of Denton; brother, Loy Smith of Trinity.
The family will be at the home of her sister, Jettie Smith.

DENTON - J. Franklin Ward, 81, of Tysinger Road, died at his home.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at New Jerusalem United Church of Christ, where he was a member, with the Rev. Raymond Craven officiating. Burial will be in Hedricks Grove United Church of Christ Cemetery.
He was a native of Davidson County, a dairy farmer, a cattle breeder, a member of the Grange organization and a charter member of the Denton Lions Club.
Surviving are brothers, Charles Allen Ward of Cashiers, Ralph Aaron Ward of Southport, Wayne Aubrey Ward of Monroe; sisters, Neaty Dougherty of Middletown, Ohio, Marie Michael of Lexington.
