LIBERTY - Margaret Mueller Martens, 98, formerly of Liberty, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at Brookwood Medical Center, Birmingham, Ala.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, with the Rev. Sam Shores officiating. Burial will be in Gilmore Memorial Park.

She was a native of Wurmberg, Germany, the widow of Walter A. Martens and a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

Surviving are daughter, Susan M. Lankenau of Longs, S.C.; son, Fred Martens of Birmingham, Ala.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday.

James C. McCaskill
BISCOE - James Carl "JC" McCaskill, 82, of 504 E. Main St., died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at his home.

Graveside service with Masonic rites will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Biscoe Cemetery, with the Rev. Anne R. Beach officiating.

He was a native of Montgomery County, the widower of Ila Stewart McCaskill and an employee of Coca-Cola Bottling of Biscoe for 44 years. He was a former elder and deacon of Biscoe Presbyterian Church, a past Master Mason of Biscoe Masonic Lodge #437, a member of the Scottish Rite and a U.S. Navy veteran.

Surviving are son, Gary Stuart McCaskill of Candor; daughter, Myra M. Maness of Biscoe; brother, Maurice McCaskill of Reno, Nev.; sister, Inez Stafford of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Phillips Funeral Home, Star, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Lois L. Sykes
BURLINGTON - Lois Lineberry Sykes, 95, of 1323 Kilby St., died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at Alamance Health Care.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lowe Funeral Home, Burlington, with the Rev. Ken Simpson officiating. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

She was a native of Spray, Va., the widow of Eleby Sykes, a retired employee of the Celanese Corp. and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are daughters, Catherine Westbrook, Marion Westbrooks and Mabel Stamps, all of Burlington; sons, Homer "Bud" Sykes of Burlington, Tommy Sykes of Asheboro; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, other times at the home of Marion Westbrooks, 1317 Kilby St., Burlington.

David W. McLeod
ASHEBORO - David Wood McLeod, 64, of 1286 Appaloosa Trail, Asheboro, died Monday, June 4, 2001, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Lee Roy Hunt and the Rev. Carlo Greco. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County and retired owner of L&M Tile Co.

Surviving are wife, Wilma Craven McLeod of the home; sons, Mike McLeod of Asheboro, Mark McLeod of Salisbury, Chris Hussey of Level Cross; sisters, Marie Castleberry of Sanford, Alease Landreth of Asheboro; six grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times the home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

ASHEBORO - Irene Hurst Rainey, 96, formerly of 668 Maple Ave., Asheboro, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Clapps Convalescent Nursing Home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with Dr. John S. Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

She was a native of Durham, a graduate of Duke University, the widow of the Rev. Lawyer James Rainey, and was a former deacon, Sunday School teacher, and member of the WMS and senior choir at her church.

Surviving are daughters, Mary Lou Moran, Irene Burns, Nancy Sizemore, all of Asheboro, Frances "Rusty" Rogers of High Point; son, James Edward Rainey of Franklin, Va.; brother, Winston Lowe Hurst of Atlanta, Ga.; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Nancy Sizemore, 757 Viewmont Drive, or Irene Burns, 433 Nassau Trail.

Millard F. Baldwin
FRANKLINVILLE - Millard Fillmore Baldwin, 87, of 3366 Tom Brown Road, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service was 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Randleman, where he was a member, with the Rev. Kenneth Reaves officiating. Burial was in Floral Garden Cemetery.

He was a native of Randolph County, a retired employee of Hatteras Yacht of High Point and a deacon at his church.

Surviving are wife, Frances Cleveland Baldwin of Franklinville; sons, Earl Baldwin, Ronnie Baldwin, both of Asheboro, Jerry Baldwin of Southmont, Jackie Baldwin of Franklinville; sisters, Florence Baldwin, Swana Baldwin, both of Asheboro; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, was in charge of the arrangements.

Bryte E. Lane
RAMSEUR - Bryte Elam Lane, 96, of 7431 U.S. 64, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Jordan Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Mary Miller and the Rev. Justus McKeel officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Knoll Cemetery.

She was a native of Cleveland County, a retired teacher with the Randolph County Schools for 22 years, a Sunday School teacher, a past president of United Methodist Women, a past president of the High Point District of United Methodist Women, a member of the Wayside Garden Club and a member of the Ramseur Book Club.

Surviving are son, William Guy "Bill" Lane of Ramseur; daughters, Martha Bowers of King, Elizabeth Spencer of Lincolnton, Margaret "Marjean" McDonald of Charlotte; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

Mary W. Hobson
SILER CITY - Mary White Hobson, 85, 315 S. Seventh Ave., died Monday, June 4, 2001, at Britthaven of Chapel Hill.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Jim Wall officiating. Burial will be in Hickory Mountain Baptist Cemetery, Siler City.

A native of Chatham County, she served in the WMU. She was a member of the Fidelity Sunday School Class at her church and a volunteer at Chatham Hospital.

Surviving are daughter, Sylvia H. Wrenn of Chapel Hill; son, David F. Hobson of Arlington, Va.; sister, Willa B. Hancock of Akron, Ohio; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, is in charge of the arrangements.

Jennie Rose Landolt
WEST END - Jennifer Rose "Jennie Rose" Landolt, 3, died Monday, June 4, 2001, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Fairview Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County and attended the Generation Center of St. Joseph of the Pines.

Surviving are parents, David and Trish Wike Landolt; sister, Vanessa Landolt of the home; brother, Zachary Landolt, of the home; grandparents, Ona Wike of Danville, Va., James Wike of Reidsville, Mary Jane Landolt of St. Louis, Mo.

The family will be at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home, Carthage, 7-8 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

William Muse
WEST END - William Muse, 66, of Marston, died Monday, June 4, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in West End, with the Rev. David Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in West End Cemetery.

He was a veteran and employed with the maintenance department at Foxfire Village.

Surviving are brothers, Leo Muse and Robert Muse, both of West End; sister, Mary Saunders of West End.

The family will be at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, Candor, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

James C. Weddington
DENTON - James Crawford Weddington, 75, of Denton Road, died Monday, June 4, 2001, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Vern Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Denton Town Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites.

He was a native of Cabarrus County, had been a deacon, usher, treasurer and on the nominating committee at his church, and was a member and past master of the Denton Lodge AF & AM. He was a charter member of the Healing Springs Fire Department, served on the board of directors and had served as treasurer. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service, worked at Councill Companies, had operated a bookkeeping and income tax service, was a graduate of A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis and attended Pfeiffer College and Catawba College. He was a World War II Navy Air Corps veteran and had worked part-time at Briggs Funeral Home.

Surviving are wife, Golda Skeen Weddington of the home; daughter, Leigh W. Hayes of Denton; brother, Alvin Weddington of Mooresville; sisters, Ruby Richardson of Kannapolis, Margaret Hackl of Sumter, S.C.; one grandchild.

The family will be at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Leigh Hayes on Denton Road.

Myrtle G. Hussey
ROBBINS - Myrtle Garner Hussey, 89, of 3271 N.C. 705 N., died Monday, June 4, 2001, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Smyrna United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Joseph Forbes and the Rev. Clarence Garner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, the widow of Gilbert Hussey and a retired poultry farmer.

Surviving are sisters, Emma G. Cheek, Helen G. Scott, both of Robbins.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Helen Scott, 1001 Needham Grove Road.

Mildred L. Latta
ROBBINS - Mildred Lambert Latta, 77, of Robbins and formerly of Graham, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Acorn Ridge Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. John Williamson officiating. Burial will be in Pine Rest Cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County, the widow of James A. Latta and was a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Patsy L. Howell of Meadows of Dan, Va., Susan Cox of Elon, Karen Brown and Regina Bruner, both of Robbins; sons, Donald J. Latta of Asheville, Jay Latta of Charlotte; sisters, Blanche L. Kennedy of Carthage, Mozelle Comer of Lexington, Aileen L. Jones of Black Mountain, Delores Garner of Robbins, Frances L. Stuart of Siler City, Louise Martin of Monroe; brothers, Wayne Lambert of Asheboro, Richard Lambert of High Point, Herbert Lambert of Robbins; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Kennedy-Funeral Home, Robbins, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Karen Brown, 857 Leamon Road.

Elizabeth Ann Johnson
ASHEBORO - Elizabeth Ann Johnson, 63, of Asheboro, died Monday, June 4, 2001, at The Heart Hospital in Austin, Texas.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Dr. Boyd Stokes officiating. Burial will be in Asheboro City Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, a member of First United Methodist Church, a graduate of Appalachian State University, and was a member of Randolph Quilter's Guild. She was a teacher and taught at Balfour Elementary and Guy B. Teachey Elementary and at Wilson Elementary and Rhyne Elementary in Gastonia.

Surviving are sister, Betty J. Elfelt of Amarillo, Texas; brothers, Willis Johnson of Irmo, S.C., Johnny Johnson of Clifton, Va.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Friday and 30 minutes prior to the service.

Donald L. Reynolds
RANDLEMAN - Donald Lee Reynolds, 64, of 104 Hancock St., died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at his home.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Randolph Memorial Park, with the Rev. Alan Camp officiating.

He was a native of Virginia, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are wife, Peggy K. Reynolds; sons, Anthony Reynolds of Asheboro, Gene Reynolds, Donnie Reynolds, both of Archdale; daughters, Louise Stanley, Donna Camp, both of Sophia; mother, Louise Reynolds of Randleman; sisters, Becky Kivett, Peggy Cross, both of Randleman, Carolyn Kenyon of Asheboro; brothers, Wayne Reynolds of Randleman, Nelson "Pete" Reynolds of Asheboro; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home.

Laone D. Loflin
SOPHIA - Laone Davis Loflin, 85, resident of 5334 Old Edgar Road, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Marlboro Friends Meeting, where she was a member, with the Rev. John R. Sides officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of James Clyde Loflin, retired from Laughlin Hosiery Mill, was a member the Robert Bulla Sunday School Class, and was a former Sunday School teacher.

Surviving are daughter, Jessie Small of Randleman; son, Lewis Loflin of Sophia; sister, Emily Pugh of Archdale; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, is in charge of arrangements.

John R. "Pete" White
SILER CITY - John Ray "Pete" White, 76, of 331 Jim Gilliland Road, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Bear Creek, with the Rev. J.R. Bouldin officiating.

He was a native of Randolph County and was a member of Brush Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are wife, Sarah Leonard White of Siler City; sons, Jerry Ray White of Bear Creek, John L. White of Goldston, Randy White of Siler City; brothers, Bill White, James White, both of Siler City; sister, Polly Marley of Siler City; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home of Jerry Ray White, 1008 Joe Brown Road, Bear Creek.

Ernestine T. Allen
ASHEBORO - Ernestine Miami Troxler Allen, 78, of 1302 Old Cox Road, Asheboro, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Cross Road Rest & Retirement Center, Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Johnny Henderson and Bob Landreth officiating. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park.

She was a native of Guilford County, a retired LPN and a member of Cross Road Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, O. Hayden Allen Jr. of Asheboro, Charles L. Allen Sr. of Randleman; sisters, Miriam T. Barnes of Power Springs, Ga., Helen T. Vance of Vestavia Hills, Ala., Dorothy Routh Martin of Eden; brother, J. A. Brewer of Marietta, Ga.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; former husband, Otis Hayden Allen Sr. of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday, other times at the homes of the son.

RANDLEMAN - Nettie Lambe Yow, 95, of 1383 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Asheboro, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, with the Rev. Jonathan Shook officiating. Burial will be in New Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Alamance County, a homemaker and had attended New Salem United Methodist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Dolly Y. Ingold of Randleman; one grandchild.

The family will be at the funeral home 12:30-2 p.m. Saturday.
