Funeral service was 11 a.m. June 1, at Sardis United Methodist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County.

Surviving are father, David Poe of Bunn Level; mother and stepfather, Marlon and Tammy Weaver of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; sisters, Mandy Hinson of Biscoe, Sara Poe of Bunn Level; fiancé, Melissa Cleveland of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandparents, Horton and Sara Poe of Bunn Level, Freddie Goodwin of Biscoe, Jeanette Goodwin of Candor.

Memorials may be made to homeless shelters.

Briggs-Candor Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

ASHEBORO - Mildred "Bill" Frances Brookshire Trogdon, 87, of 2382 U.S. 64 East, Asheboro, died Monday, June 11, 2001, at Randolph Hospital Inc., Asheboro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Giles Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Steve Wood officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of Joel "J.B." Trogdon Jr., and was the pianist and a member of the Essie Arthur Sunday School Class at her church. She was retired from the Asheboro City School System and was a homemaker.

Surviving are sons, Larry C. Trogdon of High Point, Joel B. Trogdon III of Asheboro; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Joel Trogdon, 664 Inwood Road, Asheboro.

Guy H. York
ASHEBORO - Guy Hampton York, 93, of Wesleyan Arms Nursing Center, High Point, formerly of Asheboro, died Monday, June 11, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Bill Payne officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County, a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and was a retired textile worker.

Surviving are daughters, Helen Y. King of Asheboro, Millie Y. Robbins of Mt. Gilead; sons, Guy E. York of Asheboro, Vaughn M. York of High Point, Larry C. York of Walkertown; sister, Hettie Jenkins of Central Falls; stepson, George H. York of Badin; stepdaughter, Shelby Rothman of Lexington, Ky.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Guy & Nancy York, 2108 Lamar Drive, Asheboro.

Grace H. Tharpe
RANDLEMAN - Grace Herr Tharpe, 87, died Monday, June 11, 2001, at Country Club Rest Home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman, with the Rev. David Hamlyn officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Richmond, Va., the widow of Lewis Tharpe, and a member of Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school.

Surviving are niece, Jonnie T. Routh of Climax.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home of Wesley and Jonnie T. Routh, 2690 Providence Church Road, Climax.

DENTON - Doris Yates Vestal, 69, of 425 Keever Drive, died Monday, June 11, 2001 at Brunswick Community Hospital in Supply.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, with the Rev. Lacy Cagle officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

She was a native of Davidson County, the widow of Roy Vestal, and was retired from Burlington Industries, Denton Plant.

Surviving are son, Roger Vestal of Denton; daughters, Darlene Burchette, Wendy Vestal, both of Denton; brothers, Tommy Dean Yates, Tony Miller, Jerry Don "Buddy" Miller, Roscoe Jay Miller, all of Denton; sister, Sue DeBerry of Denton; three grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

Myrtle S. Gilliland
SILER CITY - Myrtle Stanley Gilliland, 80, of 506 W. Fourth St., died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at Chatham Hospital, Inc.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Bear Creek, with the Rev. Thurman Williams officiating.

She was a native of Chatham County, the widow of William Roe Gilliland, retired from Siler City Manufacturing Co., and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are son, Clarence Gilliland of Siler City; sister, Nannie Mae Wright of Siler City; brother, Wade Stanley of Salisbury; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

She was a native of Randolph County and the widow of William R. Lovell.

He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Frances Saunders Gallimore, a retired truck driver with Klaussner Furniture and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

Perry Johnson
SILER CITY - Perry Johnson, 76, of 410 E. Second St., died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Brookdale Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Roger Shuford and the Rev. Walter Jones officiating. Burial will be in Chatham Memorial Park.

He was a native of Chatham County, a Sunday School teacher and member of his church choir, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a retired route salesman with Ferrell Gas Company.

Surviving are wife, Faye Andrews Johnson of Siler City; sons, Ronnie Brady of Knightdale, Bobby Johnson of Liberty, Charles Johnson of Staley; daughters, Lisa Cockman of Bear Creek, Brenda Richardson of Staley; nine grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

CARTHAGE - Lorrie Beth Troxler, 28, of 816 Mt. Carmel Road, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, from injuries received in an auto accident in Moore County.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, with the Rev. Thomas Horner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Moore County and an employee of Tara Plantation of Carthage.

Surviving are son, Nicholas Troxler of the home; father, Lonnie E. Troxler of the home; sister, Jenny L. Garner of Robbins; brothers, Billy Troxler of Carthage, Eddie Troxler of Robbins.

The family will be at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, 6-8 p.m. Thursday, other times at the home of Martha and Eddie Troxler, 607 Smyrna Church Road.

Steve R. Beavers
MARTINEZ, Ga. - Steve R. Beavers, 45, died Monday, June 11, 2001, at the Medical College of Georgia.

Funeral service was 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Martinez, Ga., with the Rev. Bill Hilley and the Rev. Robert Williams officiating. Burial will be in Bellevue Memorial Park, Grovetown, Ga.

He was a native of Siler City, a vice president and manager for Piccadilly Cafeterias and with whom he had worked for 18 years. He was a 1977 graduate of Elon College with a B.S., a 1980 graduate of Campbell University School of Law, with a Juris Doctorate, a member of the Augusta West Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow, and he attended Grace Baptist Church.

Surviving are wife, Deborah Beavers of Martinez, Ga.; son, Christian Beavers of Martinez, Ga.; daughters, Courtney Bowden of Greensboro, Brynn Beavers, Chelsea Beavers, both of Martinez, Ga.; father, Hal R. Beavers of Siler City; mother and stepfather, Evelyn Thompson and Ed Thompson of Siler City; brothers, Roger Beavers of Mount Olive, Darrell Beavers of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; sisters, Lisa Beavers of Wingate, Angela Macon of Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.; four grandchildren.

Morine H. Tucker
ASHEBORO - Morine Hurley Tucker of 1741 Third St., Asheboro, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Oakhurst Baptist Church, where she was a member, with Dr. Richard Crider officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County, a homemaker, a Sunday School teacher training director and a member of the choir at her church, and a member of the Royal Ambassadors and the Sunshine Group.

Surviving are husband, Fred E. Tucker; sons, Fredrick Tucker of Burlington, Bill Tucker of Asheboro; daughter, Shelia Kivett of Hickory; sister, Allene Clark of New Port News, Va.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

He was a native of High Point, a graduate of Alexander Wilson High School in Alamance County, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, and attended High Point University, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Duke University. He was a principal at E. M. Yoder Elementary School, Haw River School, Eastern Alamance High School, Thomasville High School and in education for over 30 years. He was a Sunday school teacher in the Elmo S. Allgood Sunday School class and deacon at his church.

Surviving are wife, Connie Thomas Allgood of the home; sons, David Allgood of Wilson, Timothy Allgood of Asheboro, John Allgood of Thomasville; sister, Margie Embry of Thomasville; four grandchildren.
