Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Lee Roy Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Randolph County and a former employee with the City of Asheboro.

Surviving are parents, Jeannette and Tommy Hughes of Asheboro; daughters, Angie Hughes and Starla McDowell, both of Asheboro.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

ASHEBORO - Essie F. Lewis-Dockery, of 156 E. Academy St., Asheboro, formerly of Greensboro, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro,

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Church of God of Prophecy, Asheboro.

She was a native of the Mitchell Community, the widow of Ed Lewis, a Church of God minister, had been employed at W.T. Grant Dept. Store, Randolph Hospital, and Wiley Street School in Greensboro.

Surviving are sons, Atty. Richard W. Lewis of Roselle, N.J., Bobby L. Lewis, Darrell M. Lewis, both of Greensboro, Dr. James R. Lewis of Durham; daughter, Brenda L. Wheeler, R.N. of Greensboro; sisters, Ophelia F. Waddell of Greensboro, Juanita F. Smith of Asheboro; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Gailes Funeral Home, Asheboro, is in charge of the arrangements.

ASHEBORO - Joyce Morgan Spivey, 55, of 156 Rocky Knoll Road, Lot 3, Asheboro, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation, Asheboro.

She was a native of Lenoir, and had worked at Dart Container Corporation.

Surviving are sons, William Lee Spivey of Seagrove, James Clinton Spivey of Bennett; brothers, William Taft Morgan of Seagrove, Gary Thomas Morgan of Virginia; four grandchildren.

FRANKLINVILLE - Hilda Luck Coward, 76, of 1930 Whites Memorial Road, died Monday, June 18, 2001, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.

Funeral service is 2 p.m. Thursday at Whites Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tim Strider officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County and retired from Rampon Inc.

Surviving are daughter, Jettie Parrish of Cedar Falls; brother, Ben Luck of Ramseur; sisters, Mary York, Joann Seawell, both of Cedar Falls; four grandsons; five great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

Kent A. Taylor
RAMSEUR - Kent Addison Taylor, 23, of 4078 Bay Doe St., died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Huldah Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Wayne VunCannon officiating. Graveside service will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Chattahoochee, Fla.

He was a native of Houston County, Ala., a graduate of Southwestern Randolph High School, where he played basketball and football, and was employed at Goodyear.

Surviving are wife, Kimberly Dawn Taylor of the home; daughter, Tiffany Taylor of the home; sons, Daniel Taylor and Tristan Taylor, both of the home; parents, Henry and Sharon Taylor of Seagrove; sisters, Lynn Willis of Coward, Ala., Lisa Moon of Chattahoochee, Fla.; brothers, John H. Taylor Jr. of Malone, Fla., Sammy Moon of Seagrove; grandmother, Vitano Addison of Panama City, Fla.

The family will be at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, other times at 4367 Lowdermilk Road, Seagrove, and 5356 Clyde King Road, Seagrove.

John P. Callicutt
TROY - John Paul Callicutt, 81, of 982 N. Main St., died Monday, June 18, 2001, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Mike Elliott and the Rev. Stan Smith officiating. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery, Troy.

He was a retired owner of Rite Way Upholstery in Albemarle, a member and a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary International, had served as soloist in the choir, was Chairman of the Official Board, Lay Leader, Chairman of the Board of Stewards and served as Youth Counselor and Lay Delegate for N.C. Conference at his church. He served as President of Methodist Men and was a member of the Trinity Gospel Quartet. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and received the American Theatre Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with a bronze service star, Good Conduct Medal and the Meritorious Unit Award.

Surviving are wife, Juanita Bailey Callicutt of the home; daughter, Diane Callicutt of the home; son, Charles Callicutt of Climax; sister, Mabel Mann of Troy; two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter.

The family will be at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, other times at the home.

William J. Hunter
ASHEBORO - William J. Hunter, 83, of Ellenton, Fla., died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at his home.

Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, with Dr. Everette Thomas officiating. Burial will be in a family cemetery.

He was a native of Camden, N.J., a member of St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church, retired from Phototype Photo in Philadelphia, Pa., a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of River Club.

Surviving are wife, Ruth Hunter; daughter, Karen Bloxsom of Denton; sons, William Hunter of Biloxi, Miss., Timothy Hunter of Lawrenceville, Ga.; sister, Dorothy Miller of Tampa, Fla.; brother, Robert B. Hunter of Biloxi, Miss.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

ASHEBORO - Thomas Foust Strickland, 74, of 1306 Old Cox Road, Asheboro, died Monday, June 18, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Blountsville Baptist Church, Blountsville, Ala., where he was a member, with the Rev. W.M. Todd and the Rev. Greg Lyles officiating. Burial will be in Blountsville Cemetery.

He was a native of Blount County, retired from Hayes International Aircraft Sheet Metal, had worked on projects for NASA, a life member of Masonic Lodge #596, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a deacon at his church.

Surviving are wife, Marguerite Cannon Strickland of the home; sons, the Rev. Kenneth Strickland of Calhoun City, Miss., Randall Strickland of Asheboro; daughter, Linda Eaton of Woodstock, Ga.; brothers, Walter E. Strickland of Cullman, Ala., Henry Strickland of Kimberly, Ala.; sisters, Catherine Vaughn of Pensacola, Fla., Lois Strickland and Dicey Childers, both of Blountsville, Ala., Jackie Love of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Blountsville Funeral Home, Blountsville, Ala., 5:30-9 p.m. Thursday.

RAMSEUR - Zell M. Stewart, 82, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Memorial service will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Hospice Center of Living, Asheboro.

Surviving are son, Nathan W. Stewart of Ramseur; daughter, G. Nadine Salazar of the home; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Raleigh, is in charge of the arrangements.

Conie G. Sexton
CANDOR - Conie Green Sexton, 89, of 2462 Candor-Troy Road, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Laurel Hill Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Robert Hittepole officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Richmond County, the widow of Robert Franklin Sexton and a former counselor at Samarkand Manor.

Surviving are daughter, Nancy Brewer of Elon; one grandchild; one great-grandchild.

The family will be at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, Candor, 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Willie M. Powell
ASHEBORO - Willie Mae Powell, 86, of Asheboro Health & Rehabilitation Center, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Gailes Funeral Home, Asheboro.

She was a native of Wadesboro and retired as a domestic employee in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Surviving are daughter, Annie M. Lake of Brooklyn, N.Y.; sister, Hattie Livingston of Troy; brother, Pearly Dunlap of Richmond, Va.; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.

William E. Shelton
ASHEBORO -William E. Shelton, 70, of 1252 Jennings Road, Randleman, died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with Pastor Boyd Byerly and the Rev. Wayne Eller officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

He was a native of Madison County and retired from McRae Roofing.

Surviving are wife, Viola C. Shelton; daughters, Mary Grant, Wanda Shelton, both of Randleman, Lora Hanes of Sophia, Brenda Goins of Asheboro, Tina Lee of Fort Mill, S.C.; son, Herbert Pugh Jr. of Asheboro; sisters, June Ledford, Jeanette Tweed, both of Marshall, Queen Leake of Gastonia, Jeanell Selhost of Brevard; brothers, Leach Shelton, Kenneth Shelton, both of Hendersonville, Glenn Shelton of Mars Hill, Derrick Shelton of Tennessee; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Danny R. Wilkerson
RANDLEMAN - Danny Ray " Locktite" Wilkerson, 47, of 11044 Randleman Road, Lot 8, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001.

Memorial service will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, North Elm Street, Greensboro.

He worked for Butler Trailer Manufacturing Co. in Randleman.

Surviving are son, Brian Wilkerson of Greensboro; mother, Naomi Galdin of Eden; brothers, Ronald Wilkerson of Asheboro, Charles Wilkerson of Tennessee; sister, Sharon Barber of Greensboro; one grandson.

The family will be at the funeral home following the service.

Hiram S. Hazelwood
ARCHDALE - Hiram Sanford Hazelwood, 97, formerly of Copper Road, Asheboro, died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale, with the Rev. David Williams officiating. Graveside will be at 2 p.m. in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Copeland.

He was a native of Surry County, the widower of Myrtle Summitt Hazelwood and a farmer.

Surviving are daughter, Irene H. Southern of Archdale; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Friday.

James D. Emerson
SILER CITY - James Dalton "Huddie" Emerson died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at the Washington Hospital Center.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Corinth A.M.E. Zion Church, with the Rev. S.O. Greene officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are daughters, Lisa Bittle, Stephanie Olds, Jamille Emerson, Brittany Emerson; brother, Lester Emerson; sisters, Carolyn A. Godfrey, Odessa Emerson, Francis Emerson, Julia Giddens; stepmother, Rose Emerson; two grandchildren.

The family will be at the church 10-11 a.m. Saturday.

He was a native of Moore County, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and was retired from Robbins Mills.

Surviving are wife, Mabel Brewer Hall; sister, Beulah H. Lassiter of Cameron; stepdaughter, Janell S. Maness of Robbins; stepson, J.C. Spivey of Robbins; four stepgrandchildren.
