ASHEBORO - Rose Elliott Kivett, 97, of Agape Senior Community, 2705 Leaphart Road, West Columbia, S.C., formerly of Asheboro, died Friday, June 29, 2001, at Agape Senior Community.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Oaklawn Cemetery, Asheboro, with the Rev. William Christopher Thore officiating.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of George Clifford Kivett, a retired receptionist with Drs. B.B. Dalton and John Cochran, a member of Central United Methodist Church and a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

Surviving are daughters, Georgeann K. Pace of West Columbia, S.C., Betsy R. Kivett of Asheboro; sister, Dallas E. Leak of Charlotte; two grandchildren; two great-grandsons.

Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 300 S. Main St., Asheboro, N.C. 27203 or the charity of the donor's choice.

SEAGROVE - Arlie Talmadge Bennett, 89, of 141 W. Edgewood Circle, died Saturday, June 30, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Lee Green and the Rev. Joe Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park, with Masonic rites.

He was a native of Jackson Springs, had worked as a truck driver, owned a grocery store in Seagrove, retired from Luck's Inc., and was a member of Balfour Masonic Lodge 188 AF & AM.

Surviving are wife, Wilma Gordon Bennett of the home; daughters, Juanita Green, Faye Green, both of Seagrove; son, Larry Bennett of Greensboro; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

SEAGROVE - Margaret Ann Maness Voncannon, 58, of 5020 Graves Country Road, died Saturday, June 30, 2001, at her home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Bright Light Baptist Church, Robbins, where she was a member, with the Rev. Howard Moffitt and the Rev. W. K. Meadors officiating. Burial will be in Huldah Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a former employee of Randolph Hospital and a Sunday School teacher at her church.

Surviving are husband, Ralph Voncannon of Seagrove; sons, Glenn Voncannon, David Voncannon, Paul Voncannon, all of Seagrove; five grandchildren.

He was a native of Pitt County, a member of Woodman of the World, retired from United Day Care, Greensboro, and a member of Lord's House of Prayer Church, Summerfield.

Surviving are son, Jesse Vernon Forrest Jr. of Summerfield; daughters, Bonita F. Stevens of Siler City, Kathy V. Locklear of Rowland; brother, Wallace Forrest of Chocowinity; sister, Laura Everette of Williamsburg, Va.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, 6-8 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Bonita F. Stevens, 1710 Tom Stevens Road, Siler City.

DENTON - Edna Holshouser Skeen, 86, of Second Avenue, died Saturday, June 30, 2001, at her home.

She was a native of Rowan County and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Fred Skeen of the home; daughters, Cynthia S. Williams of Salisbury, Cathy S. Walsh of Asheboro, Diane S. Carroll and Fredene S. Williams, both of Denton; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

She was retired from General Electric after 25 years and a member of High Pine Wesleyan Methodist Church.

Surviving are husband, David Cooper Jr. of the home; daughters, Doris "Dac" C. Baxter of Greensboro, Brenda C. Lane of Welcome; brother, Hoyt Callicutt of Asheboro; sister, Jewell Auman of Asheboro; four grandchildren; two great-grandsons.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

He was a native of Guilford County, retired from Spectrum Furniture Inc. and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

Surviving are sister, Linda M. Cutter of Archdale; brothers, Kenneth Ray McGee of Sophia, Tony Michael McGee of Archdale.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Monday, other times at the home of Linda Cutter, 1874 A. Sechrest Circle, Archdale.

Eunice C. Phillips
CANDOR - Eunice Clark Phillips, 88, of East Parsons Street, died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Candor United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Bill Mitchell and the Rev. Sam Whicker officiating. Burial will be in Candor Cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, a graduate of Appalachian State Teachers College and a member and past president of the Montgomery County Chapter of the NCAE. She was retired after 39 years as an elementary school teacher at Star-Biscoe Elementary School, was a Sunday School Superintendent, MYF Leader and past president of the United Methodist Women at her church, and a member and former Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are husband, Sam H. Phillips; son, Frank C. Phillips of Charlotte; daughter, Elaine Whicker of Greensboro; brothers, Ralph Clark of Alamance, Frank Clark and Clyde Clark, both of Siler City; sisters, Kathleen York of Ramseur, Alma Teague of Siler City, Frances Allen and Josephine Hinshaw, both of Burlington; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The family will be at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, Candor, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, other times at the home.

Sophoronia Hancock
RED SPRINGS - Sophoronia "Tony" Hancock, 83, died Thursday, June 28, 2001, at Autumn Care Nursing Home, Raeford.

Funeral service was 4 p.m. Sunday at Westside Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial was in Alloway Cemetery.

She was a native of Brunswick County, the widow of Arlie S. Hancock and a homemaker.

Surviving are daughters, Gail Woodcox of Red Springs, Susan "Susie" Chappell of Columbia, S.C., Dale Mastro of Gaston, S.C.; sister, Mamie Ruth Beck of Red Springs; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Boles Funeral Home & Crematory, Red Springs, was in charge of the arrangements.

Charles H. Dorsett Sr.
MT. GILEAD - Charles Howard Dorsett Sr., 87, of 517 N. Main St., died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at Aberdeen Health & Rehabilitation, Aberdeen.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Jim Harris officiating. Burial with military honors and Masonic graveside services will be at Sharon Cemetery, Mt. Gilead.

He was native of Randolph County, the widower of Sara Jean Austin Dorsett, a 1932 graduate of Mt. Gilead High School, a 1935 graduate of Temple Business School in Washington, D.C., and a 1940 Cum Laude graduate of Wake Forest Law School. He was a law clerk in the office of Congressman Walter Lambeth, employed by Sperry Gyroscope Company Inc. of Brooklyn, N.Y., as assistant safety and research supervisor, and a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He was Clerk of Superior Court of Montgomery County, a former member of the N.C. Senate, practiced law in Troy, and was a member of the N.C. Bar Association, the 19B Judicial District Bar and the N.C. State Bar.

Surviving are son, Charles H. Dorsett Jr. of Mt. Gilead; daughter, Carol D. Capehart of Gastonia; four grandchildren.

The family will be at McKeithan Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead, 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday.

Christopher S. Freeman
BISCOE - Christopher Shawn "Little Man" Freeman, 23, of 214 Pine St., died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Star United Methodist Church, Star, with the Rev. Michael W. Leburg officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Montgomery County and employed by Myrick Construction, Inc.

Surviving are father, Rickey Grey Freeman of Biscoe; mother, Deborah Hussey Freeman of Star; sister, Charity Hicks of Raleigh; grandmothers, Jewel Hussey and Kate Freeman, both of Star; fiancé, Andrea Maness of Star.

BURLINGTON - Albert White Austin, 84, of The Oaks, 1670 Westbrook Ave., formerly of 3132 Taylor St., Altamahaw, died Monday, July 2, 2001, at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rich & Thompson Funeral Home, Burlington, with the Rev. Steven Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery, Altamahaw.

He was a native of Alamance County, retired from Culp Upholstery Print as a supervisor in the print division, attended Altamahaw Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Joy Club at church, and was a World War II U.S. Air Force veteran.

Surviving are wife, Lossie Tickle Austin of the home; daughter, Patsy Dodson of Burlington; sons, A.C. Austin of Reidsville, Henry E. Austin of Asheboro; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

She was a native of Surry County, employed for many years at Asheboro Hosiery Mill and attended New Hope United Methodist Church.

Surviving are sister, Stella Marion of Pinnacle; brothers, Rex Marion, Ray Marion, both of Asheboro.

The family will be at the church fellowship hall following the service.

He was a native of Marion, S.C., had worked at Kennedy Space Center, was a U.S. Air Force veteran, and had volunteered at the V.A. Hospital in Mississippi.

Surviving are mother, Margaret E. Bradley of Randleman; sister, Libby Mueller of Randleman.

The family will be at the funeral home 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday.

She was a native of Randolph County, the widow of David Harold Kearns and a homemaker.

Surviving are two granddaughters; two great-grandaughters.

She was a native of Randolph County, retired from Wieman Furniture Mfg., and a member of First Baptist Church of Franklinville.

Surviving are sons, Darrell McCorquodale, Joe McCorquodale, both of Ramseur; Mike McCorquodale of Franklinville, Corky McCorquodale of Liberty; brother, John Lewis Richardson of Ramseur; sisters, Luet Cranford of Ramseur, Charlene Lyerly of Franklinville, Joanne Trogdon of Staley; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

ROBBINS - Wendell Hilbert Maness, 59, of 2083 River Road, died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at New-Bensalem Baptist Church, near Highfalls, with Pastor Richard Bethea officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was a native of Moore County and was retired from Perdue, Inc.

Surviving are wife, Ernestine Reeves Maness; sons, Maurice Maness of Charlotte, Aaron Maness of Randleman, Kenneth Maness, Wendell Maness, both of Robbins; sisters, Berneice Ritter of Yonkers, N.Y., Tillie Thomas of Baltimore, Md., Precilla Archer of Richmond, Va., Glenda Jones of Fuquay-Varina, Ellery Chisholm, Ruby Armstrong, both of Robbins; brothers, Gilbert Maness of Decatur, Ga., Ben Maness, Glen Maness, both of Randleman, Jerry Maness of Seagrove, Chris Maness of Dunn, Michael Maness of Robbins; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro, with the Rev. Robin Dixon and the Rev. E. Lee Ellis officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Shepherd United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, a member of Mt. Shepherd United Methodist Church, where she was in the Methodist Women's Society, retired from the hosiery industry and a homemaker.

Surviving are husband, Jones A. Peacock of Asheboro; sons, Jerry Peacock of Trinity, Darrell Peacock of Jupiter, Fla.; brother, Hal Miller of Asheboro; sister, Betty West of Asheboro; two grandsons; one great-granddaughter.

The family will be at the funeral home 2-3 p.m. Thursday.
